One of the arguments against terraforming is the possible destruction of microbial life that could indicate if somehow mars or earth seeded the other or if life different to ours evolved there, showing life can be quite unique and different than what we know it can be today. However, I feel the terraforming process is so long it would give scientists plenty of time to search for life. If you don't find it within the hundreds of years of terraform mars, then chances are, its not there.
