Nowhere in the world even today there is no real democracy. Democracy is perfect only in theory but they were the first to concieve the idea and make it reality!
@SPARTANsenator7 Yes,you´re right, that there is no real democracy even today.
But you cant say that they make this idea real.
In ancient Athens they had even slaves( Ilotes).
Also it wasnt allowed to the woman to join the theatre.Only men played in the ancient greek theatre and they took even woman roles(thats why they were wearing masks..)
Does this seem like a democratic city-country to you?
What i mean by making the idea reality is that they tried to make it happen.
Also the Helots were in Sparta not in Athens :) What is misunderstood is that ancient Sparta had a similar type of democracy like the one we have today long before Athens. There were the 2 kings, the gerousia and the apella. The king could not make decisions on his own.
....and one more thing, do not judge the past by today's standars, that's a mistake. Besides where do u see even today a real democratic country? At least ancients tried to make it happen when everywhere else one man was calling all the shots!
Macedonians and Spartans are both Dorian Greeks. In Asia minor went, the Aeolians (north), Ionians (middle) and Dorians (south). All 3 major Greek tribes colonized Asia Minor!
Of course they were Greeks, i cannot understand why some people think that they were not, in the iliad it does not say that they were foreigners. Modern people have mistranslated the iliad, iliad does not say Greeks vs Trojans, it says Danaans vs Trojans, cause Trojans were Greeks like the Danaans too. Watch my video about the Trojan war, in which i explain the distortions and i speak about what Homer really said!
The Trojans were Turks? Hahahahaha nice joke, it's like saying that modern citizens of USA are Indians! Turks did not exist at that time, Turks came in Asia minor's coast after 1000 A.D. Asia Minor coastline in antiquity was Greek and was called Ionia. Efessus, Pergamum, Halicarnassus...all these and many others were ancient Greek cities! Only a stupid could even think about saying that Trojans were Turks, it's INSANE! I guess some people have inferiority syndroms :)
@Tolis there were slaves in Athens Documentary sais that they gave the power to the unwashed mob..i doubt it.To be a citizen was a priviledge Women were more discriminated than opressed though They thought they werent as smart -but we do have examples of women that had power and took matters on their hands(so i say that women complied to their role rather than,, being convinced into accepting it-Men were actors+warriors coz was MALE role
Did Palestine exist in 6BC? wasnt that a Roman name?
Excellent so far - the visualizations , the commentary, the artifacts.....i cast my bronze disk for the election of this video into the mainstream! lol 5 stars
this is absolutley fascinating!!! is there anything more interesting than ancient greece? it must of been a amazing time to have been alive!!! thanx for posting!!!!
That's why when some people want to return to a "better, fairer, more law and order, better goverance, and more democratic & meritocratic past," those who know real history giggle. Fact is, before the early to middle of the 1900s, the absolute majority of people, including western Europeans, lived short, brutish, undemocratic lives. 60-90% of the people didn't have any political or civil right. Nor basic education...

The mistake the Greeks made was ignoring and rejecting the Greek Philospher Solon's advice and idea's on creating a "Republican style of Government".
