Actually, the true power of a strong vocal comes from the middle of the body. Drop your awareness down to your diaphragm (you can locate that by barking like a dog - no kidding). With a little practice you'll see what I mean.

this version, the rio de janeiro version, and the jools holland '93 are my favorite live versions of Them Bones on youtube. this and rio being the best. his shrill between the first and second verses on the two are more intense than any other versions out there. it's un-duplicate-able. If that makes sense

Not really true, that's just Layne's ability to master his vocals. He just has really strong vibrato coupled with the ability to control it to the extent of being able to apply it to every level of his vocal range whereas many people using vibrato are restricted to keeping it at a certain level.

@holynapkin lol yeah i learned to sing to alice songs and im telling you i finally broke my voice enough to sing the chorus of man in the box and rain when i die perfectly but its so damn hard to master how he uses vibrato on those fucking high notes. its crazy

Try singing from the chest & using more air (which alot of times equates to being louder) and you may find hitting those higher notes easier. For songs like Man in the Box or Rain When I Die, just try going into the high note strong, 'specially because Layne's voice jumps from low to high in those songs. Just my two cents as a fellow vocalist :)

I was just a kid in elementary school when AIC got popular. I never had the chance to see them. Probably could have in 1998 if i was really into them by that point. I have been listening since 1994. Got hooked after hearing Man in the Box. I know that there are far better AIC songs out there. They did not put out one bad song IMO. Thank you so much for posting these videos. Takes me back!
