It seems like this song being written is a story of Tarja being kicked from the band, but it was written before it happened. It really is strangely touching if you think about it.
I found Nightwish watching Metal Evolution. Wow they're great! Shocked i never heard of them before a couple weeks ago. I've spent a LONG TIME overseas in Germany and other places and have music that most people never heard of. This was a great find!

My Nightwish Story: Found Nightwish while searching for Phantom of the Opera music. Being a music-starved American, I feel in love with the Finnish band. After ordering some of their music, I found out they kicked out Tarja. Listened to the "new Nightwish". Just not the same. Angry at first, sad later. Almost at peace.
I think Marco roughly said "Introducing our Keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen". My Finnish isn't real good, However it sounded like that's roughly what he said. Correct me if I'm wrong. I wonder what Tarja said at the end...I repeat my Finnish isn't very good. At least their songs are mostly in English.
Gorgeous, dedicated and always smiling, I miss Tarja, what a rare gem! (I miss her in Nightwish, that is) :( Would love to wake up one day to see that she was back in the band, I wish so much, oh well, i'll keep hoping hehehe...
Tarja is devouted and passionate about her voice and music. She is consumed by her passion. Not to mention, she was born with her musical talent. This differentiates her from many others including Annette.

Tarja's voice isn't the same without Tuomas' direction. I love her, but a lot of her songs sound incredibly derivative of old NW songs. Dark Passion Play was a bad start for Anette, especially when they first released Amaranth. If they had decided to release a different song off the album first, perhaps Cadence of Her Last Breath, might have made fans warm up to her a bit more. Imaginaerum is absolutely beautiful, and definitely worth a listen, regardless of whether you prefer Tarja or Anette.
@maxadrienne2 I LIKE Tarja. Ok? But her solo reminds me of old Nightwish, SOME of the songs sound similar in composition, not just because of her voice. It's just the way I see it. I never asked anyone to agree with me. I wasn't trying to start a fight. I honestly don't take much interest in Tarja's solo project, so I guess I don't have much right to judge, for which I apologize. Her solo songs just don't affect me the way her NW songs did. She doesn't move me without Tuomas.
There is no need for apologies, I intervened because many people make very "big" and deep-sounding affirmations, but at the end it seems they are not as deep as their first statement indicated.
I also consider than fandom for anyone - for NW, for Tuomas or Tarja is clouding people's judgement and tastes.

Indeed Tarja is not usually singing operatic. Did so on old Nightwish albums until 2000, when she also used mezzo-soprano register, because some songs required it.
Tarja in Nightwish sang metal, using classical technique as a base, enriched with other styles/procedures depending on the song.
Ok tarja's amazing but anette is too. They just have different voices, Tarja's more operatic. Anette's got more of a rocker chick voice. One woman isn't better than the other. They're too different to compare. It's like comparing Sarah Brightman to Janis Joplin, theyre too different. I've always loved Tarja, solo & while in the band. I like operatic stuff better. But Anette's growing on me. Just try to listen to the music with out comparing the two & you'll see Anette isn't bad at all.

I think Anette has a very nice voice, and I don't hate her. I hate Tuomas and the others, 'cause they had a great band, and now, they're comercial and not that good as they used to be... NW was better with Tarja and their songs form that Era will be forever in my heart. Tarja was doing sth with every song that it sounds dark and beautifull. Anette will never be as good as Tarja, but she has really hard job to do away from home and children.

I think Tarja isn't the 'fenominal element' from Nightwish, I think it's Tuomas. Without Tuomas we hadn't those beautiful songs. I can't choose between Anette and Tarja, they've both beautiful voices. But when Tuomas leave the band, I think Nightwish can't be Nightwish anymore. He's like a God, lol.
Tarja is NOT Nightwish, people. If anyone is, it's Tuomi. He puts the most effort into making this band the best Symphonic-Metal Band ever. I think losing the singer wouldn't be as bad as losing their gorgeous music genius.

In a nutshell, Tuomas gave Tarja a letter stating that the band could not stand her or her manager/husband any longer. Tuomas openly published the letter. Tarja never was given an opportunity to defend or appeal the numerous accusations. In all, Tuomas cut off his nose to spite his face.

Tuomas misjudged the essentiality of Tarja vocal contribution to the totality of the Nightwish sound. As artists Tuomas and Tarja collaboration was essential and unique to Nightwish. I wish someone could talk some sense into Tuomas so at the very least there could be a Nightwish reunion for the fans.
@whitegxp No question that Tarja was essential to the Symphonic Metal sound that she and Tuomas created. Anette can't sing in that manner so Nightwish is now a different band which makes me sad because with Tarja NW is EPIC.

@alexveldin the biggest issue is money. Artists even you may think they are rich .. they are not. NW is not multimillion dollar band. Tarja/Marcelo wanted to make more money with the band so everyone makes money. Touring is expensive everyone needs to be paid + unstable euro/us dollar currency trade. Bands dont even make enough money selling CDs. Music biz is too complicated a lot involved.

While NW released 2 albums, she did 2 rock and 2 classical. The variety of them is so great that your affirmation is plain funny.

I think Tarja isn't the 'fenominal element' from Nightwish, I think it's Tuomas. Without Tuomas we hadn't those beautiful songs. I can't choose between Anette and Tarja, they've both beautiful voices. But when Tuomas leave the band, I think Nightwish can't be Nightwish anymore. He's like a God, lol.

Tarja was an essential element to Nightwish.. i.e. vocal and vocal arrangement.
Tarja is Nightwish and alway will be. Tuomas, Emppu, and Tarja are the original founding members. History cannot be rewritten.

I really do not think anyone hates Anette. They are angry at Tuomas for kicking out Tarja, the beautiful voice of Nightwish. Tuomas and some of the band members are not the little angels they would like you to believe.

People need to get over this Tarja vs Anette thing.
Nightwish couldn`t find anyone to replace Tarja because she is unique! Her voice is so distinguishable... you can`t put anyone else on her spot and hope everybody to like this new person.
And... to leave everything sealed in the past, they looked for someone totally different, to renew Nightwish. That`s why they chose Anette, to give the band rebirth and leave Tarja in the past.
So stop whining. Tarja has a solo career, too! Go listen to her!

In a nutshell, Tuomas gave Tarja a letter stating that the band could not stand her or her manager/husband any longer. Tuomas openly published the letter. Tarja never was given an opportunity to defend or appeal the numerous accusations. In all, Tuomas cut off his nose to spite his face.

There is footage that has Tarja stating that she wanted to continue with Nightwish, so she may have said in anger that she could leave Nightwish anytime...after watching some of the documentaries, the guys treated her like crap.

If you'd bother to read 'Once Upon a Nightwish' you'd see Tarja and Marcello cost her that gig through their actions. She wasn't just casually fired, she behaved abysmally for years and got away with it before Tuomas had it. He couldn't even fire Sami. You think he wanted to fire her? Get a clue.

Tuomas misjudged the essentiality of Tarja vocal contribution to the totality of the Nightwish sound. As artists Tuomas and Tarja collaboration was essential and unique to Nightwish. I wish someone could talk some sense into Tuomas so at the very least there could be a Nightwish reunion for the fans.

@whitegxp No question that Tarja was essential to the Symphonic Metal sound that she and Tuomas created. Anette can't sing in that manner so Nightwish is now a different band which makes me sad because with Tarja NW is EPIC.
But what makes me even sadder is the hatred and vitriol directed toward Anette. She doesn't deserve any of it. All she did was take the job Tuomas offered her. You haters need to get a life and move on from this.

I agree Tarja has/had a great voice, whatever. But seriously, if you're gonna sing songs in English, then at least pronounce them correctly live. I can't understand why she'd take the time to pronounce words correctly on the album but not live - live shows are more important than the album.

I dont think you would be sitting and thinking when will Holopainen get over his mental breakdown. She decided that NW is a bit too unstable and risky. so she went and started doing her own things. Marcelo/NW mngtment issue is complicated one. It is not 1 sided problem. Everyone is to blame! fans are divided, band isnt the same. quality of music dropped. just sad!

@alexveldin the biggest issue is money. Artists even you may think they are rich .. they are not. NW is not multimillion dollar band. Tarja/Marcelo wanted to make more money with the band so everyone makes money. Touring is expensive everyone needs to be paid + unstable euro/us dollar currency trade. Bands dont even make enough money selling CDs. Music biz is too complicated a lot involved.
