  • sure do miss mr bob hope crosby

  • I heard them Ladies did not wear any panties under them nice dresses. Is that true?

  • Such a great, wonderful man. One of my idols.

  • When someone asks me what my line is, I always tell them "Cocaine".

The show never had me back on.

  • The show that Bob and John were referring to was a benefit to raise money to build a memorial for correspondents killed covering World War II and Korea. Daly was a war correspondent and this was very near to his heart. Edward R. Murrow was also heavily involved in the project.

  • I love the 1950s accent. It's really awesome.

  • @TallBoyBlue I love how Woody Allen did the same thing.

  • "I'll take a wild guess....Are you Bing Crosby?"

    Hahaha, awesome. XDD

  • funny thing ;-)

  • THE greatest guy ever!!!! All the war zones that any of us can remember..Just a great guy.

  • Oh... you... Nichijou

  • Bob Hope, you know, you know

  • Bob Hope gave Tony Bennett his stage name LOL Tony said so at a recent concert I went to.... hahaha

  • Mr. Show Business.

Nothing more needs to be said.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • One joke Bob made, was "I left England at 4, when i found out i couldn't be king" R.I.P

  • YESSSS :) haha

  • when my dad got out of the marines and was flying back from tel aviv in the late 70's before his flight got in his sister and mother met Bob Hope at the airport and got a picture with him just minutes before my dad flew in. That picture is a prized possession and an example of how generally friendly Hope was

  • looks like kelsey grammer?!

  • Bob Hope would wrestle Hulk Hogan any day of the week for charity ... and win.

  • I gather you are not Sophie Tucker - LOL

  • I miss the days of all of these wonderful people who are not with us any longer. I also miss the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights when I would look forward to seeing their great TV shows. Life is so different now.

  • Nowadays you have Commies like Sean Penn, Susan Sarandan, Danny Glover, Michael Moore and so many more who sell out the U.S. whenever they get the chance....then they hop in a limo and drive to their multi-million dollar homes. Traitors, all of them.

  • @TheBlueyedblond

Is a patriot someone who is loyal to the government..? Or is a patriot someone who is first and foremost loyal to the people..? If your answer is the latter, then all of the people that you mentioned are definitely NOT "traitors," nor are they "commies." Food for thought.

  • @TheBlueyedblond

Well said, great post. Bob Hope was a class act and one hell of a patriot!

  • I love how he signs in with Bing's name, and how he always made fun of him. ;)

  • Bob Hope was crazy handsome back then. Wow!

  • @SOF88 haha. you should see him in "Road to Singapore"

  • Saw him in person in 1972 on the Tonight Show and in 1964 or 65 when he and

Lucille Ball made a personal appearance at the theatre showing their movie The

    Critic's Choice.

  • A legend. He had relatives in Hitchin Herts, England and would take time to visit them too.

    A very funny, sincere man.

  • Are you Bing Crosby???? So funny!

  • The one and only, Mr. Hope.

  • i'm a little jealous of this generation's class, talent, cleverness...bob hope, lucille ball, jack benny ...while today we have the likes of adam sandler, larry the cable guy........real bottom feeders

  • @jrm8899 Shows the deterioration of our society, eh?? I couldn't agree more.

  • All class.

  • haha i when i saw im put Bing Crosby. I was like, " what the hell did i click on the wrong video?' lol I forget how silly Bob Hope is!! love him! :)

  • they all have so much class. something that is sadly lacking from TV today

  • Leslie Hope*

Not Robert. "Bob" Hope was just a stage name, I guess (or a nickname from when he was younger that just stuck)

  • lol he's so funny! silly goose signed in as bing crosby. what a card!

the only movie i've seen of his is the iron petticoat with katharine hepburn. i watched it only because she was in it but now i love this guy.

  • BOB HOPE gave so much to his adopted country of the United States of America and the entertainment industry. He was born in England believe it or not and was a real class act & should be given a day set aside in his honor for the many times he entertained our troops during many of our wars & even after them with his wonderful specials and galas!

  • LMAO Bing Crosby...

  • Hope was one of the few 51-year-old's to which the term "middle aged" was completely accurate.

  • @Marckymarc71 , and that also applies to his wife, Delores, who will turn 102 in May.

  • Wow i cant see Bob Hope like this almost 60 years younger died at 100 R.I.P

  • great show..this is of course the 1950's the era I grew up in ...tv shows were done live.

  • Love love love this! The signing as Bing Crosby LOL!

  • If o was on that show I would have gotten him rite on the dot!!I love you bob!!!

  • stewie brought me here

  • i find it interesting that 3 of the 4 men are wearing bowties. a bygone era.

  • This has got to be one of the greatest episodes...if only for the Bing Crosby jokes. So funny!

  • He did so many USO shows for so many years. I missed him in DaNang (1971) by 2 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A truly wonderful man..Semper Fi.

  • Arlene guessing that it was Bing Crosby has to be the epitome of dramatic irony!

  • I wish they still had this show, it'd be just as funny with celebrities now.

  • glenn quagmire is modeled after bob hope

  • Yeeeeshh... :D

  • i didnt know to expect from the great Bob Hope, concerning his signature. when he signed Bing Crosby, i couldnt stop laughing. CLASSiC!!!! i certainly hope that some of these great peoples signatures from this wonderful show are saved somewhere.

  • I wasn't even born when this was on, but I remember later on how much my mother loved Bob Hope. They're in heaven now hopefully enjoying each other's company.

  • my dad has a picture with bob hope. he's about 90 years old in it and looks so different

  • he looks like quagmire

  • @yupwerenoobs101 Aaaalll-right, giggidy-gee!

  • i wish there is a 2010 tv program What's my Line ?

  • I met Bob's wife while bob slept at Charlie Boswell's home, he was a blind golfer and great friends with Bob and lucille Ball as well. Dolores Hope is a sweet lady. This was around 1988.

  • "are you being crosby?" love :)

  • He signed in as Bing Crosby. hehehe

  • Is that THE Fred Allen? His voice sounds like the one from the radio show. God, I loved Allen's Alley.

  • He's like everybody's favorite uncle.

  • Bing :D

    Wow!! She almost go it!

  • happy b'day bob! we miss ya!

  • Bob Hope is timeless.

  • "Bing Crosby"...lmao.

  • Bob discuises his voice to sound like Bennet Surp

  • Nice little Freemason slip ..Faith "Hope" and charity

  • @gmanw3 explain?

  • @SerbiansareTrash The words " faith ,hope and charity are used in the first degree of Freemasonry during the junior wardon's lecture in refference to the rounds of Jacob's ladder. Faith in almighty God ,hope in salvation and charity toward all mankind. Bob Hope was a Freemason as was the host of this show I suspect.

  • I respect any comedian who is willing to put their life on the line to entertain our trooops. And I mean in combat...

  • I had the privledge and opportunity to meet Mr. Hope. He was 88 at the time. He did a show and brought the house down with his quick wit and hummor..even at 88! He was going strong even then. An amazing entertainer.

  • Comment removed

  • Bob Hope is the best. They need to bring this show back with today's celebrities. I'm sure that it will be a hit again.

  • I know, this show was great... I'm 31 and I absolutely love it, but there are no stars these days

  • you're right, this is from the era where the "stars" worked across media and were part of people's lives. they didnt depend on trash jokes and were talented speaking on the quick.

  • class......pure class

  • Bob Hope was truly one of the greatest entertainers/comedians/performers of all time.

  • im 14 and i laugh like i of him like i do with laurel and hardy (sometimes i laugh so much that tears appear in my eyes)

  • amazing that he lived nearly a half century after this recording, what a full life!

  • I saw his wife talking on a show one time. She mentioned that one time she asked Bob if he could stay home for Christmas. He didn't say anything but asked her to come with him overseas. When she walked into the hospital & saw the soldiers all bandaged up it broke her heart but when she saw their faces light up when Bob walked into the room she never asked him to stay home again. She knew he was needed there more. God bless Bob Hope. He was a special man & thank you Delores for sharing him.

  • Amen to that!!

  • Amazing Bob Hope! This video takes you back in time.

  • Hope was a funny man who slowly became an icon.

He did so many wonderful things and his timing was impeccable but, like many people in the public eye, didn't know when to retire.

His later shows and USO tours were as much sad as funny.

  • Thanks for the memories =)

  • Bob was the best. ;-D

And by the way, John Daly was such a classy and endearing host.

  • Why did he sign in as Bing Crosby?

  • It was a joke. He made a lot of movies with Bing Crosby and often in those movies he and Bing were comic rivals (over girls, etc.) Just a cute joke.

  • Because he's a nut! :)

  • Surely not to boast, but simply a way to pay tribute, I once wrote jokes for Bob and—aside from the birth of my daughter—a greater moment I can not recall. And that's including that one time I flew from Monterey to Burbank holding Kim Novak's hand. Yes, a lucky guy am I. Thanks, Bob, for the memories.

  • @eheaven3 O did you really your not a pathological lier are you

  • "I was lucky enough to get the chance to speak to Bob and he could not have been more gracious. A world away from today's stupid and selfish celebrities."

I agree. Bob Hope seems like a real man.

  • They laugh at anything he say's it's great!

  • The world is a darker place without Bob Hope in it.

  • That was one of the best things I've ever read about anything. It's so true. Bob Hope is sorely missed...

  • @babeofelvis Yes it is. But, we should all be thankful he had such a long and productive life and career. So much of his humor is timeless that future generations will enjoy him. Nevertheless, his social and political quips so date the exact time

    he said them.

  • @babeofelvis Amen.

  • @babeofelvis I think the better thing to say would be: The world is a brighter place thanks to Bob Hope.

  • are you bing crosby lol

  • bob makes expressions like betty hutton. I love both of them

  • Enjoy the ganja.

  • Amazing, so there were actually humans on this planet at one time.

"When we recall the past, we usually find that it is the simplest things - not the great occasions - that in retrospect give off the greatest glow of happiness."

    Bob Hope

  • what's with bob signing in as bing crosby and having a bob hope sign.

  • Bob & Bing did movies together, appeared on TV many times together, were great friends and just generally associated with each other in many people's minds. So Bob signed in as Bing as a joke.

  • Have you ever seen a Bob Hope/ Bing Crosby road movie?

  • Did this show end for good? They should bring it back! It would be soo funny! :D

  • Bob is my all time favorite. His playful confidence is never matched by today's stars. I collected all of his shows at his bobontv website. Really timeless entertainment.

  • what about steven colbert?

  • Bob and Bing. I always get the feeling George Clooney would like to have that kind of public image with Brad Pitt.

  • Never in a zillion years, Bob and Bing had talent . George and Brad r just pretty boys who made it on the their looks.

  • Totally agree.

My point was more to do with what I perceive to be Clooney's desire to project this same buddy image to the public. If you ever watch the press conferences for the Ocean's movies you'll see Clooney perpetuating these inside jokes. It goes from artificial to annoying to boring very quickly.

Bob and Bing kept the public in mind. You didn't feel left out of the joke, rather you felt like you were given a special glimpse of what their friendship was all about. It was elitist.

  • i love bob hope.. he doesnt look 50 something here.. maybe b/c its in black n white.. god rest his soul.

  • "Is your hair thinning a little?" lmao

  • Oh man! I totally cracked up when Arlene guessed Bing Crosby! :-D

  • Watched Mr. Hope trade deadpan one-liners into the camera on TV for years, so this chance to see him jovial, giggling, and downright explode with laughter when Arlene incorrectly guesses Bing Crosby is golden. Thank you much.

  • Old school this show was but it still kicks kiester. ;)

  • Love these old shows. Class, intelligence, wit... fun!

  • Delightfully funny! "Are you Bing Crosby?"

What a great show WHAT'S MY LINE was. There's nothing to match it on tv today.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I was lucky enough to get the chance to speak to Bob and he could not have been more gracious. A world away from today's stupid and selfish celebrities.

  • I so agree! I wished celebs were like some of the old movie stars.

  • I know. My father knew a limo/town car driver who was hired to chauffeur Hope and his wife Dolores around for the evening. Instead of making the driver sit in the car and wait for him while he ate dinner at a nice restaurant, Hope invited the driver, a working-class stranger, into the restaurant to eat with him and his wife on Hope's check. A very generous guy on many levels and not only when he was in front of the public.

  • Great story.

  • I love that. Thanks for sharing the memories.

  • Hope's eyes... like Keaton's, and Lillian Gish's, so expressive, I never noticed it before...

There was a time, pre-TV, when Fred Allen was as big as Bob Hope, and almost nobody knows who he was, anymore... think about it, kids.

  • He's a funny man, and the Bing Crosby sign-in was hilarious!

  • The moment when Arlene guessed that Bob was Bing was even funnier!

  • I know, I just about died! lol

  • When she said that, i spit out my laughing.

  • Lol he wrote Bing Crosby

  • Oh how wonderful to see the entire segment! I remember seeing part of it on "What's My Line? at 25" on ABC years ago. Very, very funny, especially Fred Allen at the beginning. Thank you for posting this.

  • What's my line at 25 highlighted this clip (in part 5, I think) and illustrates that some mystery guests WANT to be identified and others WANT to bamboozle the panel. Hope apparently wanted to bamboozle -- look at that joyful expression when Arlene Francis appears to be on the right track for an identification and then falls right off the cliff.

On this particular episode, the panel got lost a good deal of the time (see the Clarence Ducky Nash WML clip) and they were still very funny.

  • Thanks for posting. There couldn't be a better

mystery guest to post on the 4th of July than

Bob Hope. After nearly 80 years of entertaining the troops on earth, I'm sure he

& Bing have paired up again to continue their

    preformances in the place upstairs.

  • I'll second that!

  • Except Hope will get the girl once in a while this time
