  • Sammy: "Edward....Edward...Edward!!!"

    Eddie: "Yes, God?" haha

  • Hey... is that Steve Lukather at 5:30?!

  • Riff master for sure!

  • eddie looks so clueless as to the whereabouts of sammy

  • In this period eddie had an awesome guitar sound. And so was Alex.

  • i dig the jack daniels bass

  • From 5:41, Eddie is riffing on: Women in love (from II), Black and blue.

From 6:55, The three zep songs played are: Whole Lotta Love, Communication Breakdown (7:14) , How many more times (7:30). Then the other one about 8:05 is Robin Trower's Bridge Of Sighs, sounds like. The last one I don't know who it might be, but sounds like a surfer song.

  • so that's what singers do when guitarists, bassists, and drummers soundchecking.... nice hobby!

  • The drumer is funny

  • Dude in the blue shorts at about 5:46 looks like Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character in Boogie Nights.

  • No it's not, Leonardoo. It's "Communication Breakdown" by Led Zep.

  • 7:15 is "The Who - Who Are You"?

  • Jeez, that one dude just keeps eyeing down Eddie

  • Comment removed

  • Dude check out that giant 5150 banner! Kick ass!!!!

  • @Hunkola

And you sound like a douche.

Now go listen your your Lady Gaga CD's

  • yea wat an ahole

  • what is the part: (8:44 - 9:16)

  • @Jensern79

    "Whipe Out" by The Surfaris

    watch?v=UofdWQG346k

  • They would NEVER let a performer to do that type of climb nowadays, the liability concerns, the insurance and venue management, no way!

  • thats not alex when theyre playing panama

  • This is great shit man. Thanx for sharing.

  • Listen to Sammy at 3:40...WOW That wasn't gay at all.

  • love the black n blue at 6:40

  • holy shit thats high...

  • whats that the roadie shows eddie ...laughs ensue then sammy takes a drink?????7:39????

  • the guy that keeps showing up to watch eddie at 5:21 is kinda creepy lol.

  • The guy with the short tight blue shorts at 5:46 is even creepier!

  • Born under a bad sign at 8:00

  • whats that thing eddie plays at 8;00??

  • I see 3 musicians here (Eddie, Alex, Mike) and 1 lame tequila salesman (Hagar)............oh well, that was Van Hagar for ya!

  • You got that right Sammy makes everything cheap .....just listen to him he sucks

  • hes not that bad, look at brett michaels

  • very very very good!so much!!amazing!

  • what where they playing at 8:45-9:06

  • Sammy says the name...

    ''Wipeout''

  • Starting at 2:45 what is that guys problem?

  • Who? the random dude on stage watching Ed?

He cud be a VIP pass guy who is a big fan, he cud be the guitar tech guy. Who knows?

  • That was Zeke his tech.Don,t know who he uses now.

  • Someone who just got fired because he fucked up his guitar in "Jump", he threw a monitor after him :D

  • 6:30 is black and blue from 0u812 tha album the would make in about 3 years after this

  • 8:12 repeated 1 1/2-step bend in "Born Under a Bad Sign" shows up 12 years later on VH III, right before verse 2 of "Without You". Cool stuff. Thanks for posting this!

  • at 5:47 when ed starts playing women in love .. look at that dudes 80's turqouse short shorts in the background!!!!

  • What a shame that Dick was ever in Van Halen. This era of Van Halen was really disappointing.

  • 5:45 is great, I love the intro to 'Women in Love'

    Genius.

  • This might be a stupid question, but why is Sammy scaling the scaffold and checking sound etc..--I thought that was a roadie's job.Just curious.

  • Because back in 86 when Sammy still had some balls, he used to climb up & sing some songs on the scaffold during the show. Sammy sang "I Can't Drive 55" from up there.

  • Sammy had balls!?

  • Very cool!!! Neat to see footage with Zeke Clark in there, Ed's guitar tech back in the day. Kinda freaky hearing Black & Blue 2 years before they released it. One of the best sound check vids I've seen----THANKS!!!

  • FANTASTIC FOOTAGE! Eddie and everyone jamming, having fun! GREAT!!!!

  • Whole lotta love at 6:50 is sweet.

  • A little help pls. Does anyone know the name of those two riffs at 7:29 & 7:59.

    Thx

  • 7:29 is a Zep riff, I can't recall the name though.

7:59 is Clapton/Cream Born under a bad sign

  • The Zep riff at 7:29 is How Many More Times off of their first album.

  • Moby Dick

  • sweet communication breakdown!

  • The best!

  • This was my first concert ever (I remember thinking that the $14.00 ticket was expensive and my $16.00 Van Halen Kicks Ass T-Shirt had to be removed at school the next day). An awesome day for an eighth-grader BTO rocked too! If only we had the type of pull to get a show like this at Paetec Park! Thank you for posting this!

  • What happened to stage size! Remember when the stages used to be that big! what the hell happened!

  • I know thoses stages are awsome.

  • Did anyone else here see the tour with Dave last year? Am I the only one who thought that they weren't putting any effort into it? I've seen VH a ton of times and the last one was rather disappointing. They were sloppy and Eddie's guitar solo was lazy... Dave looked in great shape but couldn't sing very well. Just wondering if anyone else felt that way.

  • This is the coolest vid I have seen on Youtube, thanks for posting.

As a VH/Hagar fan, it's fun to see them just goofing off back in 'happier' times.

Maybe someone should show this to Ed, maybe he'll remember how to HAVE FUN!

  • "women in love" off women and children first. very catchy riff.... great song.

RIP Van Hagar. As I shed a single tear...

  • jredrocker, thanks sooo much, ive been trying to find that song ever since I saw it on one of his interviews...

  • Women in Love is VHII

  • Yes "women in love" but from Van Halen II in 1979 !

  • Ed used to be able to play... maybe he still can under all that drunk garbage he plays. Sorta sad going from Eddie Van Halen to being worse than some punk kid in a music store.

  • you don't think for 2 seconds that maybe he still knows how to play the shit he used to play and maybe he just trying to be fucking different cause what he did before got boring as shit after 30 years

  • Van Hasbeen is good!

  • i feel so privileged watching this...so so cool.eddie rules forever bye

  • i was there i remember this show.kim mitchell.b.t.o and van halen!!

  • Ed plays like its no big deal. I think I have to concentrate more to breath than he does to play

  • dirqvan thanks man this was so great

  • Love the Zeppelin in the middle

    BYE ZABRAT.

  • This is funny! What a rare look at them goofing off. And Ed must really like zeppelin!

  • why does he really likes led zeppelin?

  • Uh he says he was influenced to Tap by watchign a live led zeppelin perfomance, cock sucker.

  • He said he thought of it as moving the nut up the neck.He thought of it as he sat on the terlet taking a morning dump.

  • you're a moron.

  • YouTube is amazing

  • Dirq-diggler here is amazing. Thanks!

  • He does a riff from "Without you" A couple times.

  • Great rare find! Thanks for posting Dirg...

  • Anyone notice the Black and Blue riff at 6:29. This is two years before OU812 even came out.

  • ya thats what i was thinking... man i love black and blue. sorry for responding 5 months later. you rock jmhutner

  • Thanks, man. "Black and Blue" is a favorite of mine. I love 0U812. Some of the guitar work on that album is just insane. WIsh I'd seen "Women in Love" performed live with either singer. That song is awesome, too. Saw them on For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, Balance, and the Greatest Hits tours and then with DLR last year, but never got that one. Love the Zeppelin jams on here too.

  • @jmhutner It's a preview ^^

  • It's so cool that they're into the musicianship. They seem to love to just jam. Dig Hagar on the drums. Not too shabby.

  • whoooa... never saw ed do the intro to women in love before =O and thats a liiittle too high for my taste lol (up on top of the 5150 album art where sammy was)

  • who's the hell on drums during panama?

  • eddie is a god without even trying.

  • quite a few Zep riffs.

  • Whole lotta love, yeahhhhhhhhhh!!!! VAN HALEN RULES!!!.

  • Cool stuff.

  • nice zep noodling.could watch stuff like that for hours!!

  • aw this is so cool, I've watched this like 20 times already, thanks for uploading.. god.. eddie is just so badass..

  • quite possibly the coolest thing

    I've heard, music-wise ever!! 5:35 on......

  • Ed used that riff to open his solo on the new tour with Dave (for the first show anyway). He expands on it a little on the new tour, but not much.

  • Bah! Meant that as a reply to todvball's post.

  • very cool. but wow the stage is HUGE.

  • That was real good. They did alot of good stuff including Cream. He had Clapton's licks down pretty good too.

  • This is verycool,I whish you can upload the full vid

of this soundcheck rehersal.I hope that they add the

mtv VAN HALEN-UNLEASHED'86 to the Live With Out A Net

video'86 on a new long play DVD.

  • Lots of good stuff from Ed, between the Black And Blue riff to the Women In Love part and Wipe Out.... simply good stuff!

  • WOW, thanks so much for posting! I live in Rochester, NY so its kewl to see a vid from there..I don't think that sounds like Alex on drums for Panama, it might be his tech, then Sammy plays later. Do you know why Alex was not there? You can tell Eddie's all like, "um, this sucks" but is too nice to say anything, lol.

  • Give us some more VAN HALEN. Fuck this Van Hagar shit.

  • Unfortunately there aren't many CVH videos around.

Ive uploaded 12 CVH videos. Maybe you should make a positive comment on one of those

  • The CVH videos are awesome!

  • You are a putz.

  • Thanks for posting this video. Well enjoyed.
