There were at least 20 brands of instant coffee in 1970 so you have to realize that being number 3 was an accomplishment. Sanka was made by General Foods back then and I remember it as having a nice fresh roasted aroma and good flavor. In 1985, Kraft took over General Foods (and put them out of business) Kraft changed something in the Sanka formula which made it taste like plastic. They ruined Sanka.
"third largest coffee" doesn't mean anything!! it's not even English. Since when does a substance have a size? Now readers are going to say "They mean ...", and I will say "Who cares what they mean! I'm talking about what they say. That should count even more than us HAVING to guess what they mean".
a boiling pot of coffee right on the edge of the stage... that's a disaster waiting to happen.
a man in pyjamas with a camper in the middle of a forest? go naked man!! that's what the forest is for!
this is too funny. i love that they are proud of the fact that they are third best. can you imagine someone doing this today. and i love the woman singing we're the third largest coffee in america at the top of her lungs. haha!
Yeah, but they also mention that there are over 300 brands of coffee in America and of the three largest selling brands, they are the only one that is decaffeinated.
"It does'nt keep me up at nite but it helps me poo..." Family guy anyone? lol

This makes me think of The Ballad of Irving- the 142nd fastest gun in the west.

This ad leaves out one vital point. It tastes like you left a fish in the coffee machine.

I can't imagine any advertisement doing this today, proudly being the third anything, lol.

They are the third largest coffee but they are also decaff. I am assuming one and two were not decaff

I thought I heard Jake Holmes' voice in the chorus singing the Sanka "3rd. largest coffee in America" jingle.

It's definitely from 1974, I remember this commercial was on TV a lot during my sophomore year in high school. Good memories.

I just LOVE the end scene, which takes place at a football game. Can you see yourself in that commercial cheering for your favorite team(s)?

Another commercial with Peter Thomas doing voice over? How many other things was he narrating or doing voice overs on back then?

Dig the Las Vegas showgirl in the Sanka commercial!

One more useless tidbit of information: The name "Sanka" is a contraction of "sans kaffeine".

I never knew that, thanks for pointing that out.

Folgers and Maxwell House would be my guess. But third largest doesn't sound so good!
