I wouldn't call JT Leroy a "hoax" per se. More like a pseudonym. I don't have any problem with that, but I do think they took things a little far (having Savannah Knoop pose as JT for example).
a good movie, yes.... but yet an even better book, Asia did an excellent job with what she could, but the book gives you the best understanding; nevertheless, this is my favorite book and movie of all time
Yes, that's what good psychologists _should_ do..but this character, I think, is not meant to be a good psychologist. Keep in mind that this movie has a number of screwed-up characters in it...so, all the more reason to show some of why they're screwed up. Ryder's character (who seems almost like a lazy student intern rather than someone with an actual degree) is an example of some of society's safety nets that unfortunately sometimes fail the people they're supposed to be helping.
@RachelSummers77 It's sad, but this is how a lot of psychologists are - they're following a script, and all they're concerned with is getting the kid to say the right responses, regardless of whether they are being helped. It's awful :(
Just to clarify. J.T. Leroy's books were released as autobiographical fiction. Unlike million little pieces it was never claimed as memior or autobio. Just the author bio was fake.
True but numerous celebrities claimed to personally know J.T. and the author's sister-in-law dressed up as "J.T." and made several public appearances perpetuating the false claims that the autobiography was true.

Really? But isn't she supposed to comfort him to get the info out of him? She just seems like she wants his session to be over.
