Thin Lizzy ( the cover band ) at the war memorial in Johnstown. They were great. Actually, them and Black Lable Society and Judas priest <- they were freaking amazing.
Metallica's repeated mentions of Thinny Lizzy as their inspirations brought me here.. and i am so glad i did.. this is undoubtedly one great hard rock song
This absolutely brings f**'n brings tears to your eyes. Listen to the way the two rhythm guitars play off one another. this is pure rock and roll soul. No studio production tricks needed,(not that they had alot in 1976), just kick ass rock and roll at it's finest! Let it not be forgotten
@williamped1 I have fond memories of this song, I used to walk to my old high school to watch a freind preform in chorus, and I remember one time this song started playing on my cd player just as I got to the school, when I hear it, it reminds me of the good ol days.
When cable TV first came out and I was watching Showtime they had something called "Video JukeBox" between movies. This was the FIRST video I ever saw. On Showtime in the late '70s. Still a GREAT song.
@ValterBlackDemon tool cool, just started to learn this song myself last week on my acoustic, played it for some friends the other day still an acoustic version but I love it. would love to do it for a crowd someday with my band and someone who sings better than I. ha ha ha :))
There WILL NEVER BE another song written like this one ever in the history of modern music...no way ever could this song be topped or lyrics mean so many things to so many people and it always takes you back to the first time you heard it! I love you Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy...Thank You for everything you have done for the music world!
When I hear something from the Jailbreak album, I always think of the Hair of the Dog album by Nazareth, and vice versa. I guess it's because they came out close together in '75 and '76. Some of the best rock of my life.
For me the best Lizzy song ever! Brings back great memories of being 14 back in 1978. Spent the best parts of a months paper round wages and waited 3 weeks for delivery just to get this on 7" Vinyl. Had to order it from the US as it was never released on 7" in the UK but just had to have it! an still got it to this day, played to death mind ya! lol
I was at a rock bar in my hometown with some friends, just hanging out then this song came on and i just blocked everything around me and rocked hard as fuck! Thin Lizzy is sick

Killer killer killer song. We used to cover it back in the day and did it a little bit faster to make it more danceable. Just a badass song. And like you said,a tragic loss, melody shrugged Damn
Oh God. I used to be sort of annoyed when in the live version he shouts, "THE COYOTE CALL" like 3 times. But I just realized how truly fucking beautiful it is. I can't bear to hear it now without him screaming it to the crowd. I wish i was there every inch of my yearns to be there in Phil's presence.
I am 14, Thin Lizzy is one of my all-time fave bands, and in my opinion this is one of the best 10 songs ever written. ever. I went to see Limehouse Lizzy (the best tribute band ever) live, and they were amazing, but still not quite the same - no one can reach the same level of greatness
