its funny i trained such sacrifices so often, i spot instantly, the only prob i never figure out how to set them up. same with the queen sac on f6 and back rank mate, i thought is so pretty and hard to see, but how to set it up. anyway ur accent fits to chess, hope u make sophisticate stuff once
@DeFyX274 It's a good question. Remember these guys are masters after nxb2 Qxg7 is crushing (...Rf8 Nxe6! (the f pawn is pinned to the queen on b7)) so after , say Qe7 Nxf8 Qxf8 Re1+ the black queen is lost.
@ConformedSanity If 1.Nf5 first, then simply 1...Nxe5 wins, as the black knight now blocks the diagonal. e.g. if 2.Bxe5, simply 2...f6 defends. If 2.Nh6+ Kg7 3.Bxe5+ Kxh6, black wins here also.
Intriguing :) Far too often, i must have been worrying about protecting my queen and rooks when there may have been opportunities to win! Thanks for improving my game :)
And thanks for uploading, Serguei. Cheer up a little though lol Chess is FUN :D

wow! I didn't think grandmasters set themselves up to be mated in three! Certainly, the bishop is EXTREMELY powerful with that pawn structure--but I suppose people simply almost never think about potential queen sacrifice moves.
Because if he not castling....white: Queen takes g7 and attacking Rook. If black moves Rook to f8 white takes e6 with Knight and doubbleattacks Rook. If black takes the Knight with pawn f7 white takes black Queen with hi´s own Queen.
The Rook is deadmeat. Even if black protects the Rook by Queen moves to e7 can white take Rook with Knight. White loose Knight (Queen takes it) and black loose Rook.....
At 1:35 why didn't black capture white's bishop with his knight instead of castling? It seems like that would have saved him from his fate. I'm no master so it's possible I'm missing something obvious here but am I?
I found the mate on pause. Yeaa! It was not too difficult to see because of Black's obvious weakness and White's dangerous bishop and queen on the a1 h8 diagonal. Just a matter of finding a way to release all that power into the black King's hideout. Great game, thanks!
i only sacrifice bishop or knight :-)
avgost1 3 weeks ago
black could have taken the bishop in b2 after the queen moved to g3... this is simply a mistake from black.

The beauty is that Sveshnikov must have forseen this combination when he kicked the Knight with d2-d3 giving the Queen access to e5. Very pretty!

I just love those double checks. What's the best move for black at 1:50? It looks like he is already screwed.

there were a host ofthings that cooud have been done, Nf5 before moving te queen would have had the same affect on the game.

there is one more possibility. If he moves the knight from 4d to 5f, before moving the queen.

Wouldn't Nf5 be faster? Mate in two moves with either Queen or Knight (depending on which one black choose to take)

for move 20, why doesn't the black knight on c4 take the white bishop on b2?
around 1:37 of the video. the bishop is not protected.

The bishop on C3 also puts the king in check - it is a double check.
tomthecool 2 years ago
OH ok ty, i missed that.
boylebongo 2 years ago
because the bishop on c3 had check...black had no choice but to move the King.

double check, the bishop and the knight are attacking the king, so all other pieces are rendered inactive as a result the king must move

1. ...Nxb2
2. Qxg7
If black tries to save his rook with 2. ...Rf8, then white plays:
3. Nxe6
3. ...fxe6 loses black's queen with 4. Qxb7, so black is now definitely going to lose his rook.

I think a mate in two is possible from the possition at 2:32
Knight c6, black has to take the queen or else it's over, then white goes Knight to e7.
SubjectOfInterest 2 years ago
1. Nc6 Nxe5
2. Ne7+ Qxe7
ElevatingMoment 2 years ago
black queen can take the knight on e7
