Funny thing is, you could virtualize all those servers into one box now. Time to throw all the junk away. Took so long to set it all up, only to find out it was all useless. 500 servers = one virtual box.

@gellis713 - I think ravman007 is correct. He cannot argue with an idiot like you can he? We recently off-lined some 650 servers onto one virtual box. 64 CPUs and 256GB ram. And a second one in NJ acting as disaster recovery. I think it's you that needs to educated himself on how virtual server technology works. Our servers number crunch terrabytes of data 24/7.

@regularguy316 I was under the impression ravman007 thought a typical server could suddenly take over the role of those machines. I will accept that I should not have assumed he was a typical CIS major, and should have taken into account a highly specialized server that as far as I know isn't very typical.

Rack and stacking sucks so much. I would push for the vendors to prebuild all the racks instead of doing it from scratch. In the time it took for yall to get those racks up we get about 5x that amount in the same time.

I used to work in a datacenter that had over 10,000 servers and around 3000 routers/switches (cisco) and no matter how many times I walk in there I always say "WOW THAT's ALOT OF FUCKING SERVERS"

Great infrastructure, for a start, but I am wondering why they didn't go for Blade servers?!! They're more energy efficient, unified power-supplies, separate rack-units for hard drives, power supplies, CPU units and cheaper when you plan to deploy that many servers. Another important point is that blade servers will consume much less space considering the precious server room space when they scale-up & deploy extra server equipments in the future. Hope them success.

This technology looks very interesting, we have all seen the attempts to get people to ASK a standard question but the searches are all done with tried and tested but old technology.
