  • @malulhaguevara

    hello

    I have this version

    with a great sound

if you want to contact me in private message so I can send it to you

    good weekend

    greetings

    SYL

  • Me gustaría tener el audio de esta actuación. sería posible?

  • I also know the french version ( I am french) but it's a matter of taste.personally I prefer this one and the style of Benson rather than the style of Trenet..

  • 9 people prefer the original version

    "La mer - Charles Trénet"

  • @pxnxdx

Cette version est interessante Benson ayant une tres belle voix , celle de Trenet a le merite d'avoir ètè la premiere mais la meilleure est assurement celle de Bobby Darin .

  • actually the song is a french song called la mer (the sea) from Charles Trenet and i can tell you, on french its better

  • Who has recorded this song for the first time? Has Sinatra recorded it? It's his style! (GILBERTO SAUGEN FROM BRAZIL)

  • Class ..... a Benson word !!

  • Class

  • Maravilhoso, George Benson!!!

  • me gusta

  • genial

  • Can't top a classic! And this is definitely a classic. Vocals a smooth as butter, and you can ride on the waves of that brass section. Love it!

  • I love his voice.

  • Wow, this track gets slower, a true oddity in today's sped up world....George's treatment deserves props because he doesn't try to clone Bobby, as Robbie & Michael did...

  • So great to hear the old standars done well by Boomer generation singers

  • Eight people have no Ears!!!!!

  • Listen, George's studio version of this song (on his 20/20 Album, circa 1982), is the best arrangement and vocal performance of this song. No disrespect to the late great and brilliant Bobby Darin, who I am a massive fan of, but George nailed it. I know this was a big hit for Bobby, and he recorded the original hit, but George wins here, sorry! Frank comes in 3rd witht his cover behind George and Bobby.

  • La Mer, Beyond the Sea. Both the best songs ever!

  • super

  • u cant compare bobby darin 2 benson, the only songs bobby did well were song he didnt write. when he tried 2 write he crashed out pretty quickly

  • Man, this shit is awful. Cheesy as fuck in every way. George is a MONSTER but this is super weak.

  • @JazzMac36251 There's a version where he sings at a faster tempo. It's better I reckon...

  • The Bobby Darin version is fine alright but George gives it a genuine "classy" edge, especially the Album version, not necessarily this live one. Both great but different!

  • ♥ ♥ ♥

  • Como dijo un "cAmarada".....simplemente Mr. gEORGE, Benson......WOOOOWW~

    MErci beAucoupe!!! JORGEE@@@@!!!!

  • sounds a lot similar to La mer by charles trenet

  • @cradleofjohannes The tune is indeed La Mer. Bobby Darrin and others just decided to give it English lyrics...

  • tres bonne reprise de la mer de charles trenet george c est un grand

  • @214cardenas

poor choice of words my bro

  • @hygeiarx1 youre probabky black lma

  • Reminds me of working offshore with Comex, waiting to return to the girl! Happy days! : )

  • SIMPLSMENTE FANTASTICO ! MUITO BOM DE MAIS !

  • the solo on this song is just awesome

  • Wonderful performance for a lovely song. Great, as always, George Benson.

  • Wonderful performance for a lovely song. Great, as always, George Benson.

  • @50ClockVegasBlue's comment: Well if you think about it like that then things kind of get messed up. Because then you could say stuff like lots of people are better than Elvis because he didn't write songs or play many instruments.

  • when george benson does the classics, it's almost like he reinvented the song. brilliant artist.

  • george benson never wrote this song bobby jack made this song and plus its like that name from the monkeys btw I SHOULD BE FAMOUS

  • @jPapajoe So true! The brass is glorious and dynamic and Benson's signature sychronized scatting with his bass.

  • George's version got alot of coloring which made this tune accessible to many like me. Just listen to the love pouring from the brass and his solo.

  • excellente reprise de mr trenet .......une inconditionnelle de mr charles !!!

  • TSARA BEUUUH ;P

  • Well done, George!

  • First Charles Trenet.....then Bobby Darin........now George Benson. Some songs just

    get better with time

  • este é george benson um dos melhores musicos que já vi; e ainda é testemunha de jeová o povo mais pacifico do mundo

  • Juanxio2010

This great song in the voice of GB, reminds me of a friend a brother the late Bob Ferguson, who recorded it for me on cassette tape around 1980. RIP Bobby.

  • Mr Benson, Mr Benson. What can I say I luv it.

  • I think George should stick to guitar.

  • great version but i just don't feel that passion that boddy give's. Benson is tryin to hard with this song as good as he is. butt still great song

  • George is the complete entertainer...

  • George Benson é maravilhoso e suas canções e interpretações marcam profundamente, transcendem gerações.... não envelhece, não cai na obsolescência.

  • I actually like this more than Bobby Darin's version

  • @Abovedarim214 I agree. His album version, I think, is the best version of the song.

  • pour Gigi et Ludo...... ça c'est le top:)....... je vous apprécie beaucoup.....:) ggbzzzzzz

  • tenia 15 años cuando escuche a este tio con esta rola y me quede ahi, es impresionante

  • Duuuude, that version's só fucking awesome! :D

It's.. Jazzy, it swings it's.. Well. Most of all, just really awesome.

  • The original song is "La mer" written and composed by Charles Trenet

  • While George has the smooth crooner voice here, the song should be speeded up................it just seems to be in slo-mo. Even the drummer seems to be falling asleep playing.

  • That's some good singin.

  • best part is 2:28

  • kudos man

  • Check out Bobby Caldwell version of this song ! ! ! Bobby makes you want to go out and buy it as soon as you hear it ! ! George is doing a great job nevertheless !

  • benson is a baritone?

  • duz baritone mean like deep voice singer ?.? lol (noob 2 music language lol)

  • It Goes Bass (Lowest) Baritone, Tenor for Guys.

  • so is tenner high pich like

  • tenor**

  • Yeah depending on the range of the person Baritones are generally pretty low (cept for Bass singers who are like crazy low) and Tenors are the highest range for men.

  • I love this version...so much more ALIVE than Bobby Darin. If you like the plain stand up type of performer that never deviates from the original versions, then maybe Bobby is for you. I like to hear impulsive and interpretive differences in songs by a performer. George can do Blues, Jazz, R&B and even Gospel well so I admire him and his style and this interpretation

  • With all due respect Bobby Darin was not just a plain stand up performer. He was and forever will remain an outstanding performer. He played several instruments while writing is own material. Yes, he did covers but if you listen you listen to them, they are not a repetitive rendition. Listen to the original version of "Le Mer" and you will see there is quite a difference, and Bobby Darin makes it swing ! Even Sammy Davis Jr. himself said he would not follow an act that Bobby Darin put on.

  • It's called courtesy.

  • Bobby played the piano, guitar, drums, harmonica, vibraphone and xylophone. He also wrote 180 some odd songs. As cool as George is the only area he tops Bobby is in his mastery of the guitar. Bobby Darin was and still is THE cat.

  • @5OClockVegasBlue RIGHT ON,man, I like bobby darin's swingin' style, too :)

  • @5OClockVegasBlue ....tho' i should say i like george's jazz style....not in this song, tho', as this is clearly bobby darin's....haven't heard a better version than BD's....no offense to george:)

  • @5OClockVegasBlue well you're entitled to your opinion,& if you're deaf can't blame you.lol

  • @Luvvamanwayne I hear just fine. Do you?

  • @5OClockVegasBlue

Bobby was great but he didn't write the song, french composer Charles Trenet did !

  • @rockeur56 I never claimed that Bobby wrote this song.

  • @5OClockVegasBlue

Bobby was certainly a multi -talented cat. Comparing artists as different as these two is tough. They're both great.

  • Wow I received a lot of responses. O_O Thank you to everyone!!

  • I'm surprised that George tried to do it in swing. He's an R&B guy, while Bobby Darin came of age in the swing era. I think that's why some people like Bobby's version better. George is a tad out of his element here.

  • You know this is just the americanized version of the french song, "La Mer", right? This one makes a lot more sense, but the french one sounds a lot better to me.

  • Not bad, but doesn't swing like B.D.'s!

  • fuckin suks!! THE ORIGINAL VERSION IS THE BEST!!

  • wow. this is amazing! Almost as good as Bobby D's

  • Jack Lawrence helped pen Bobby D's famous first hit for him in 1959 adopting the melody from 'La Mer'. It's Jack's version that become immortalized by Bobby. It's terrific to see George keeping the song alive and both re-introducing and re-interpretting it only like he can do.

  • I just recorded my own version of this song, it follows the bobby darin version but I do a few notes differently, but it isn't much different. Anyhow, I'd love to get some opinions on it. Please check my profile to give it a listen. And thanks for listening in advance!

  • Bobby Darin made this a hit...most other version Ive heard from singers are just as good. Its simply a cool jazz song!

  • charles trenet made this a hit, not b darin.

  • Bobby made it popular.

I'm not trying to contradict you or anything.

    I'm just saying.

  • pants

  • his singing is almost at par with his guitar.

  • I disagree with the folks below, i think i enjoy this version more.

  • i think both versions are awesome it just depends on your mood. :) it's just a great song. :)

i've never heard it done quite like this and i love it.

  • Who originally sang this?

  • When Im listening to this song I reallize what heaven or the life beyond will have for us. Thank you george from Spain. You re my soul friend. I know God is giving you inspiration and you share it with us

  • Bobby Darin made it famous in the U.S. but the true original is by the guy who composed it in french, Charles Trenet.

  • Bobby Darrin , i think.

  • Bobby Darin - Beyond the Sea

=] that song is in bioshock best game of all

  • Charles Trenet - Original title: "La mer"

    Written in 1946

  • The original is Charles Trenet's "La Mer" (1945) which was used in a whole lot of movies, among them "Le scaphandre et le papillon" (2007 -- highly recommended). The most famous version is of course Bobby Darin's.

Check out my blog, if you like. For link see profile.

    Bruno "Swing It" Leicht

  • Charles Trénet first recorded this song in 1946. He suposedly wrote this in a few minutes on a sheet of toilet paper while riding a train in France in 1943.

  • Thx for the additional info. Cheers, dude!

  • Damn AMAZING!

  • A great version. I saw George perform this at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in December 2002.

  • Breathtaking!

  • George nailed it!

  • I really like George Benson, but this doesn't do it, in my opinion, but he is still very talented, Bobby Darin's version is always the best.

  • i met george in south-port 3 years ago, i sang this song in front of him, he gave me a good compliment and he was so funny , he is my hero.

  • damn this is good :)

  • My favorite musician of all time. Great!

  • Amazing.

Really, a beutifull song and a great performance.

    I love the jazz.

    Congratulations.

  • great performance

  • the song is called "Beyond The Sea", but thanks for posting:-)

  • thanks a lot
