I went to Hong Kong with my best friend when I was 16, and this song, along with Opportunities by Pet Shop Boys, embodies that trip for me....listened to them over and over. It brings back that "feeling" I had there- the grittiness, the darkness...it's perfect.
I hate when bands do covers, because all the fans do is bitch about who's cover was better. Literally a million conversations about the same thing. Can we talk about the political aspect of the song? Can older fans talk about what it was like in 80s when this band was in their prime?Damn.lol
I like all versions of this song, including the Rammstein, In Strict Confidence and Shiny Toy Guns covers.. It will always belong to Depeche Mode and those bands cover it because it is such an amazing song.
I like Rammsteins cover better. It's not often I like a cover of a song, but this is one of the three that I like better than the original. Cash's Hurt is one and Rammstein's Spookshow Baby is the other, although the latter is a collaboration.
Man, this is a great song! Though seriously, for the people arguing about Rammstein and Depeche Mode they both did what artists are supposed to do with music. Depeche Mode created a great song, and Rammstein did a cover that didn't merely retread the same ground and transposed it into their own sound and style. They're both difficult feats to accomplish and they both sound great!
17 dislikes? How is that even possible? Martin L. Gore is an amazing songwriter and he especially shines with DM's darker, intense, vulnerable, sensual songs...LOVE IT.
I have to say I prefer the Rammstein version because I just tend to like heavier music. Still, it's a good song regardless of which version it is. Much respect to Depeche Mode for this tune.
@Duodecillian i am so glad there is someone out there who can admit to liking rammstein AND depeche mode instead of just being a crazy psycho person who thinks only one of them can be good at a time :)
all of you people who is verbally bashing depeche mode and putting up this rammstein whoever this asshole is you need a reality check and get your facts straight when a first person writes there song and then someone remakes there original song and then try to cut a lyric from the original song is really stupid so all you people who is saying bad things about depeche mode and saying another band is better you really need to face the truth about an original or a classic song
@antdigger excuse me antdigger depeche mode is the original singers of stripped and shiny toy guns didn't write this song depeche mode did and didn't rip them off get your damn facts straight
Okay, I can understand some people liking the Rammstein version (I personally hate it but I know Rammstein is a bit of a pioneer in his own field so I can respect that) but Shiny Toy Guns? Really? Don't even try to talk about them when the subject matter is Depeche Mode.
The sexual energy from this song is almost overwhelming. Not even from the stand point of "sex" but the deep, intense, emotional energy that cries out. Powerful stuff!
I have this cd "Black Celebration" in my car for the past 6 months and I never ever ever tire of this song. It's soothing and just what I feel at every moment, being a shy and oversexed girl, who wants to escape the confines of my everyday life at all moments and run into the woods and spend every moment with my love without disturbance. I just love it.

To me there is nothing like the original with anything in life and no group, artist or band should be allowed to do covers for any of Depeche Mode's Music, It's just "WRONG". in my opinion. Don't change a great thing. DM For Life ;)
@valygrl1 A cover honors the greatness of the original work, so I don't see why there should be anything wrong with it. After all, nobody is making you listen to it, and in many cases it exposes the song to other audiences (for example, Aerosmith's "Walk this Way" being covered by Run DMC).
@gturner38 Well it's just my opinion and it's just with DM that I really feel that way, I will say that there is a Jazz version of Never Let Me Down that is actually pretty nice but when it comes to DM music, I just want it to be them, can't help the way I feel about that, sorry but I do like the Aerosmith / Run DMC Cover :)
@valygrl1: Hi! :) How are you doing? I can certainly relate to you regarding your comment about your race. I am American Asian Indian, and grew up in a Hindu speaking family who also practices Hinduism--and I LUV Depeche Mode as well! Music tastes--especially a band as spiritually, politically, psychologically, culturally, emotionally, and intellectually inclusive and open as Depeche Mode--truly has no racial (or other) boundary. :)
@ valygrl1.....thats awesome :D Depeche Mode is my 2nd favorite band, but they are practically tied with Nirvana, my favorite band xD (Even as different as their sound and style is)
Rammestein, Shiny Toy Guns, and Depeche have very distinct remakes of this song......and all 3 do it justice. It all boils down to matter of personal tastes, not quality.
To everyone complaining about Rammstein, get over it. They're a different style of band. They play german industrial metal. Do you know why they did a cover of this? Because they love this song as much as you or me! Can't we all just enjoy the music? (DM and Rammstein fan)
Please, let us not taint DM's original with any mentions of Rammstein-that is such a freakin' creepy band. They sound like they should be doing Saw movie soundtracks. Depeche mode's Stripped has that great 80's synth epic-romance feel to it; a kind of goth romantic nihilism. Dramatic, yet fun music of my childhood.

Love this track. Emu vintage equipment FTW (Emulators, Emax 1/2).
