Good film but for those who still remember the 1982 version, it's a case of been there, seen it, done that. Kick ass effects, though the ones in which Kurt Russel was weren't so shabby for its time, either.

i hate scary movies because they scare me. i was scared watching this trailer, but some friends want me to go see it with them tomorrow. and i agreed. im guna piss myself and scream like a lil girl. i already know it.
This was a well done prequel to John Carpenter's '82 'The Thing'. They kept alot of continuity intact (watch Carpenter's version, where Russell investigates the Norwegian camp...even minor details like an axe left in a wall are explained in this version).
If you are a fan, stay during the credits for the final 'tie-in' to Carpenter's version. While this is a 'been there done that' story, it's done very well and is a great model for other future 'prequel' movies to follow. In a way it provide
@MrNataswon This was more of a remake then it was a prequel. I mean basically it's John Carpenter's 1982 story told all over again, just in different sequence. CGI was used way too much.
there is no originality left in the world...lets just repeat the same stories every 20-30 years...lame. Everyone same your money, stop going to the movie theaters and read all the classics...you will discuss the truth I have just shared with you today.
@HelterSkelterSOR ...are you joking? Why would it be an-tarctica? Antarctic is the opposite of "Arctic", so it should be "Ant-arctic"... or am I misunderstanding anything?
SPOILER:the game picks of after the ending of the 1982 movie, the game is basically part 2, if you havent played the game 'the thing' the story is all jumbled then. When a unit was sent in to discover what had happened at the station they found the black guys body, russel didnt die. So this has got to be a prequel cause the station was gone after the game. It is russel who saves you at the end.
the 1982 movie with russel had a stupid end I hope this one is better idk they all died at the end right? I think that was stupid all in all its and average movie that did not need a remake.
One thing (no pun intended) thats spoiling this film alittle for me is women bieng in it. Im not sexist, nothing like that, its just thats what made the 80s original so good, oh well I'll still giv it a chance.
Who's the actress playing the scientist? I've seen her in a lot movies. She has beautiful brown eyes. :))) The 1982 "The Thing" was enjoyable. It freaked me out, but I wouldn't say it gave me sleepless nights. This new version just might do that. By the way, Hollywood needs to come up with new ideas. Everything is a remake now. :P
I watched the 1982 Kurt Russell movie just months ago. It was great ! I hope this re-make/sequel will be greater and WON'T RUIN the original storyline
I will try to keep an open mind on this female lead actress. The screaming thing alien sound at the 1:54 mark sparked much great horrific memories of the JC 1982 classic. I can only hope that this movie will keep the 82 remake's terrorfying integrity. I'm not a big fan of CGI in horror movies due to the fact that it's painfully obvious in the movie. Regular animatronic effects have a specific look and motion to them being used in the dark that adds to the realism that compliments the movie.
Guys I know you'd hate to see this film remade, but I honestly MISS this story that I would like to see it continued. I LOVED the movie, I LOVED the video game, I'd LOVE to see more. It's just too good to lay dormant in the movie world. This was bad ass back in 1982 ffs, wouldnt you want to see it kick ass in 2012? I am getting goosebumps in anticipation. And I secretly wish they find Kurt Russel out there...or Captain America... or Mumble of happy feet....or another Predator temple....
I loved the 1982, It had very intense atmosphere. Honestly I think it will suck....why the hell did they put a female in this movie? Does there always have to be one in modern horror movies?
The alien who is impersonating one of the team wouldn't understand human behavior and would act strange, or at least seem "off", making it really easy to identify it.
@marcusduck wow i'm sorry for you that you never saw john carpenter's the thing, or that you would think that a stupid cgi superhero movie would be better.
Why hollywood, why ruin such a great movie classic by remaking it and changing some facts. Why!? (CRY...SOB). And why is kurt russel's character a girl?
The original 1982 "The Thing" with Kurt Russel was one of my most favorite movies as a kid, my brothers favorite also, I remember how fascinated, but in a weird way, we were with the gore in the movie and all the bizarre events....truly a great horror film of the 80's, I wouldn't mind sitting down to watch it again.
I read something like this somewhere, it was on the hotmail news so it wasnt something made up. Basically a team went on an expedition set in a snowy place(not sure where). Years after they died or went missing they were found all dead, their tent was torn from the inside as if they were trying to run away from something, one person died as a huge force hit his chest, and there was this woman who died and her tongue was ripped, the most eerie part is, there were no other footsteps besides theirs
okay like wtf is going on ? can`t they make a new movie, why are they remaking movies.. are they trying to fuck all the classic movies up.. damn they need new idea` s there in hollywood !
This reminds me of Alien Vs Predator, lol, seems like a boring movie that everyone already knows the end of, people will die, then somehow one person will stay alive to tell the world, but that person will be the thing and movie will end, shitty
Two things (hehe): people against people, and mechanical (not digital) effects. These made the original movie what it was. And kurt russell of course. This version most likely sucks balls, but we'll see..
This would have to be the story of the Norwegian colony the Americans discovered in the original. To remake the original so soon makes absolutely no sense.
@zkriski This looks exactly like The Thing (1982). Only difference I see is that the main character is female this time. Looks like they weren't even trying to make something different. Alien was a straight up horror film while Aliens was Epic Horror Action/Adventure. One reason why the Alien series gets so much praise is because each film is so different from the last. Frankly, I´ll wait to see it, but until then my reaction is: what´s the point in remaking something that is VERY well made in 1982 and it´s still a really scary movie. Like said above, I hope they don´t ruin it.
It´s probably going to be filled with CG overdone monsters and end up a crappy movie like Aliens ressurection, abusing of the images of aliens everywhere and just showing too much growling and crap with a crappy story "just because".
Have you ever seen the 1951 Thing from Another world movie? the original Thing film, 1982's movie was a remake but actually a faithful re-adaptation of Who Goes There by John Campbell
@Johnlindsey289 Yes, I saw it, when I was younger, I think making a remake is always a difficult thing, especially if the previous movie asre really well made, like the 1982 version is.
Have to wait and see, but from the trailer... Don´t know, they might ruin it like they ruined the Alien movies with the 3rd and 4th movies (especially the 4th one... pure crap).
Actually 1982's movie was a faithful re-adaptation of John Campbell's novella "Who Goes There" which inspired 1951's movie and remains THE quintessential faithful adaptation

@Johnlindsey289 Yes, I saw it, when I was younger, I think making a remake is always a difficult thing, especially if the previous movie asre really well made, like the 1982 version is.
Have to wait and see, but from the trailer... Don´t know, they might ruin it like they ruined the Alien movies with the 3rd and 4th movies (especially the 4th one... pure crap).

@mooneepondskid
Actually 1982's movie was a faithful re-adaptation of John Campbell's novella "Who Goes There" which inspired 1951's movie and remains THE quintessential faithful adaptation
