this is when GM built car's like they should. now day's all the cars look alike...and made out of fiberglass, vinyl and plastic oh and aluminum. and they price the shit out of the hollow frame bodies as well. I hate ALL the cars out today, they suck ass.
@JourneyRocks81 I Totally Agree . New cars SUCK COCK. I Love the older cars Like these Malibu's I Know someone who drove an 81 Malibu sedan from 1985-2002 and Put over 300,000 KMS On it. It still ran Fine But the body was falling apart and rusted
Those Malibus of that era are enormously popular as Bracket-Drag racing cars. They can take a big V8 engine and the body is lighter than some of the more SEXY cars so they actually go really fast in a straight line with a little work...
The commercial. The 2nd time watching it though, I don't hate it as much. I think the car is fairly good looking for an '81. There were some ass-ugly cars back then. This is a decent shape.
@palebeachbum Oh I like it! And remember, in the very early '80's. alot of designs and styles and so on were carryovers of the '70's era. for example some call Raging Bull, although released in late 1980, a '70's-era film. also Stone Cold, a 1991 release is considered by some an '80's era movie.
My dad had one of the 81 Malibu's made for the middle east, I was young but I remember shifting it for him, and I'm almost positive it was a 3-speed standard...
And had the heavy duty AC, from a Cadillac? You'd catch a cold if it were on max
About 10 years ago, I bought a 1981 Pontiac Lemans Sedan (same platform) for $600.00. It ran well for a couple years, then developed an oil pressure problem. But it was built like a tank.
I like the beat in that commercial. lol Nice car too. I'd wanna get one of those and put on the front clip from the last El Camino and convert it to the El Camino bumper style wit the lights too
Yeah, you brainiacs sure are right. These Malibus sure are "junkers." That's why countless people are making them into street/strip cars (including myself) and they are starting to become as popular as 66 and 67 Chevy II's. These cars were meant to be raced: full frame, factory four link suspension in the back, big block chevy bolts directly in with no modification, etc, etc, etc. Yep, you guys sure know your cars (if you even have any)!!!

My dad one of these as a company car for awhile. It was a very good riding car. His company changed it two years later for a 1983 Grand Marque.

Boy, for a 1981 car commercial, it sure reeks of the '70's. I hate it. It was a popular car back then though.

I always hated when GM juxtaposed their cars with things like hang gliders and surfing when clearly their target audience was people 30 and over.
