If a program can take advantage of dual processing, then a 2.2GHz dual core can kick a 3GHz Pentium 4's ass.
No Pentium 4 was dual core. They had something called HypterThreading, which was the one core pretending to be 2 cores, by using unused resources. This was good actually, but if the program didn't take advantage of it, it ran slower than if the P4 had HT turned off.
But doesn't dual core operate a little bit more efficiently than Hyper Threading? I heard Hyper threading eats a lot of power and reduces CPU efficiency.
Umm... okay. Like Hakemon said HT was a good thing WHEN a program was designed for it but I don't think many programs where. The new Core i7 also has HT of sorts. It basically partitions the cores so if one core isn't being fully used something else can use that extra power. The quads show up in Windows as 8 cores.
I have that same envision

will OS X work on a PC with these specs?:IBM Netvista with pentium 4 512MB 40G HD with 13G free intel graphics and a floppy drive?
Robloxian182 2 years ago
It's more than just spec. It's motherboard model, CPU model, etc.. And GPU model, sound, etc.. Just goes on.
Ask on osx86 forums.

How exactly is it wrong?

Did you have to change any Bios settings?
crzyfrvr4u 2 years ago
Nope, never did.
I did turn on legacy free mode because I wanted to free up some interrupts, but it's not required.

You really like The Lion King, it is a great movie.

It's different on every OS/Platform, and on Windows and Mac, not much to it. Just look it up on Google.

I got my ThinkCentre working perfectly except for the USB ports. Do you remember what drivers or kexts you used?? And is there a link?? Thanks.

Nothing special needed for me.
hakemon 2 years ago
Oh well. Thanks My USB ports work but only intermittently. I used "modbinkernel" when installing. Was that your choice as well?

Nice running OSX on a non-Apple machine... I'm telling Steve Jobs. LOL nice man.

Don't tell anyone at Sega-16, but I just got an 8 core 2.8GHz 2GB RAM Mac Pro.

Is a 3ghz Pentium 4 not still way better than a say 2.2ghz dual core?

My Thinkcentre has only 2 Ghz and it can kick that P4's ass with it's multitasking abilities

Please keep comments on topic, and not touting whos computer is better than another.

Hey guys, actually, this guy's Pentium 4 is an updated version, with dual core and HT. So combined together, they are as fast as a Core 2 Extreme.
