  • LOL!!!!

  • @bargerian awwfff

  • This is really impressive, keep up the good work! BTW, what Ryu is this anyway?

  • I see alot of katas from the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu style here..Or is that just me cuz I think i saw a posture and move from Muso jikiden ryu as well.

  • Ironic that a Samurai art is practiced in a Karate dojo - being as Karateka were the rebels fighting the Samurai when commoners were disarmed and forged Kara-te - Empty-Hand

  • She at least does not sit at home playing games, or living as a computer was her life support system. I would love to have some much older students as well disciplined, with the expected respect, and humility that comes with earning the Honor of even wearing a sword as well as she does at her young age, and I'm sure she is able to be as well trained in Dojo Etiquette, even out side of the Dojo !

  • This is fantastic! I am so impressed with her control and fluid energy. Just awesome! Anybody on here can say what they want, her dedication is evident. Great job Alexis!

  • WOW SHE IS MAGNIFICENT!!!! I WANT MY DAUGHTER TO LEARN THAT so if her bf is an asshole......she can chop him up and discard the body parts lol just kidding!!!!lmao

  • Doomo arigatoo gozaimashita! My daughter will be 18 soon. She is quite passionate about the Samurai culture and Japanese martial arts. She is much taller now and stronger- HA! She also practices Goju Ryu. She is quite dedicated.

  • Man... This is awesome... To see her move the blade with such grace and precision.. To show no fear, to have total commitment to her moves... Very nice. Wonder how she is doing now.

  • Wooh, she is incredible good in it! Especially for her age.

  • Beautiful and deadly.

  • I think her technique literaly is awesome! The blade still looks a bit to heavy for her though.

  • @straylynx I think the only problem with her techniques is the wieght of the blade, it looks a little like she is having problems with it at times. But the physical strength required to full control the blade is something she can develope over time. But even with that said, she is controling it rather well.

  • @OMFGHUGEWOLF Yeah, that's what I said.. hehe. Well, as you say, over time her wrists will get stronger and her control over the blade will improve.

  • @straylynx lol I think i was more just agreeing then anything else, guess i could of just done thumbs up lol

  • She's pretty damn good with her Kata for her age at the time, I practice a different type of martial arts which involves unarmed combat, Knife, stick and sword use as well and I've been practicing it for 15 years now... This girl must have been one of the few I have seen with such skill for her age.. she has great potential.. Keep up the good work

  • She seems to know the movements and postures and some cuts are nice but in my opinion it is not yet prepared to more advanced kata of the school. If you were training with Otake Shinran surely would still be in the basic kata. But keep it up girl, you'll go far!

    Greetings Brazilian, and ...

    Gambate!

  • she's very skilled for her age, can you imagine in a couple of years? She could be a sensei with that practice everyday

  • うまいけど気合をもうちょっと腹からだして!^^

  • I would like to know how many years she has been practicing this art?

    She is good in it.

Katas are performed with all techniques in place.

    Katori Shinto Ryu is awesome!

  • Looks good, 14, i'd like to see these katas in a couple of years.

Love the focus i see in her eyes.

Respect to you you lady :-)

  • I would just like to say that Alexis does these kata as well as any one that I have seen in the last 25 years. She does them very much like the way Master Otake does them. My only suggestion is that she slow down a little and hold the posture between cuts a little longer. Her cuts are straight and her form is good and she has good attitude!

  • She is good, and Wow, she looks so focused.... allot of people could learn from here, in here.

    Respect!!!

  • cool style

  • I've seen plenty of adults (black belts at that) swinging swords around like gorillas with a bone who don't have anywhere near the poise and technique of this young lady. To my way of thinking, she is an impressive martial artist at her tender age, with technique beyond her years.

  • Guys, she's only 14 in this video!!! sexy?? And to anyone who wants to criticize her, again... She's only 14!!! She just hadn't built up the strength and speed to have flawless form yet. The fact that she can perform the katas without mistakes is impressive enough at 14 years old. I'd love to see how far she's progressed in the 3 years since this video.

  • so cool...

  • oohh... so she must be junior in high school by now... nice! I want to learn this art so much D:< I found out its in buena park where its close to my house.... but Im learning kendo... so i might come for this art after i get yondan or go dan in kendo...

  • take your time, and be purposeful. The confidence and correctness of your kata is more important than their speed- that can come later. very good.

  • You should be proud, your technique is very good.

  • Is it Sughino's ha or Otake's ha?

  • @jamesargentina actually it's neither - this is a school of japanese swordsmanship called the Jinmukai, founded by an American named Howard High. They have permission to use the TSKSR Iai sets in their curriculum, though probably not from Otake Sensei, more than likely it's from one of the other branches headmasters. They allowed this school to use their iaijutsu to expand awareness of TSKSR and Kobudo Ryu in general.

  • She's really good - I have a question though: seeing as this is meant to be iaijutsu and hence battlefield-applicable, what's the practical advange of that chiburi as opposed to the standard chiburi where you flick the sword to the side before noto?

  • @TomoeMichieru all those chiburi are 'impractical' you would actually wipe the blade.

  • what is the difference between iaido and iaijutsu? is there one?

  • @imsososogreat

Iaijutsu is the technique of iai, therefore more apllied to combat, whereas iaido is the do or "the way" of iai, which takes a more artistic and disciplanary form..

  • @Toushy

Except that combat is art, and in this case, art is also combat. Do and Jutsu kanji can be use interchangeably. In ancient time, perfect technique would get you no where without proper way. Both depend on each other and the word usage is realy just a matter of taste and speaker's intent at this moment.

  • Oh that is cool, how to clear the blood off with the hit on the hilt.

She is pretty good for her age and the only way that is possible is with a good spirit, a good Sensei, and a good Dojo.

  • Very amazing, this teen is gifted. You're so lucky to practise the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto ryu.!

I want to practize this school, I have book "Le sabre et le divin" writted by Risuke Otake sensei :).

    Good Game!

  • Comment removed

  • Yup. But she's already good. Nice to watch.

  • say that it is a new blade that has yet to be sharp, there are some points that she needs to improve

    but has great potential

  • Comment removed

  • Did you study with Otake Sensei himself?

  • talented young girl

  • She is amazing!! Only 14 years old and such a dedicated spirit to this beautiful art.

A wonderfully technique and power and dynamic!

    Thank you for sharing.

    *bow*

    angela

  • O.O Good...

Wich style???? I think I already saw that kind of chiburi... Reminds me Sekiguchi Ryu...

  • Katori Shinto Ryu

  • For sure?

  • Yes. Tenshin shōden Katori shintō-ryū.

  • very nice!!!

  • Very nice, you have a good foundation to build onto. I had a chance to study Katori Shinto Ryu many years ago, but life took me another path. I very fondly recall the discipline though.

Keep up the good work, you'll be something special with more dedication.

  • She is very good, give her two or three years and she will be brilliant.

  • Go for this, write on the tube:

Katori shinto ryu Jean Prieur et Pierre Rousseau

  • Very Nice. Well done.I would love to see you Iai again in another 10 years. It will then be amazing.

  • Very impressive I never founded on tube someone with so clear moves.

  • too old for a dol, too yong for a sword ! :)) your moves are beatifull, you are very inspiring ! i wish you the best

  • she move that sword pretty fast for a 14 year girl.

  • One branch in stick fighting is Shinto Muso Ryu.Founder got enlightenment of arts long after beaten by Musashi passed down to Nishioka Sensei. When I was a kid, learned a lot from him.Father told me at that time because he was trying to keep the original style,he had trouble with Kendo Associations.I just found videos of him.The style maintain the right developments in the Kata almost similar from Katori Shinto Ryu.Hope this would give some hints to a little beautiful artist in this video!

  • It is clear that she is good indeed but the movement is not integrated and also the weight shifting is too fast to develop, at this level she should move as slow as possible so that she can read the changes of the position and especially relating to her backbones and top of the head. Also the way of grabbing sword is not from Katori is. Please bear with me if you are offended.

  • There are many things practitioners should take time to develop and they usually seem to be very very subtle things, but these things are vital ones that gives the way to the higher level even though they still give effective result and distinguish this art from other traditional Japanese arts.

  • This art is carefully designed and developed, and it gives the right steps. These should not be ignored till the certain levels. It is not only for frame and movement. Its purpose can extend even to development of bones or intestines.

But yes, I was a bit rude here. I am really sorry for my first comment. I offended her, I did not mean to.

I am personally really happy and excited to know that there are still young generations like her who pursue this art.

  • I am really sorry to say this. The girl got a bad habit. I just want to know her teacher.

  • wats the bad habbit

  • Dear Sir/Madam

I'm also practicing this art for 25 years.

I would like to go to your school rather than discussing here. I am currently staying in Chiba Japan and Sydney Australia. I am really happy to see.

  • Keep up the hard work. Looking good!

  • A definate pleasure to watch. I'm training in Satori Ryu Iaido and am really enjoying it. Keep it up, Alexis!

  • Who is this Angel whit the sword? *_* I love she, really

  • katori shinto ryu??!?!

  • very well done!! I extend my congratulations to you. Not going to lie, kind of jealous that she gets to practice TSKSR at the age of 14. It will be at least 8 years until I am able to train under a sensei of TSKSR

  • I can't understand why people would criticize her. I think this is really good iaido. I think it is Katori Shinto Tyu? I myself train Muso Shinden Ryu so i don't have so mutch knowledge about katori shinto ryu :)

  • marry me?

  • She is 12 yrs old.

  • haha lol nahh she's my friend

  • She looks Vietnamese. Is she? Well, I do have to admit she is pretty good looking . . . for a 12 year old that is.

    : - o

(Did I just say that!? "That was a case of an inside word getting out.")

How long has she been training? Where do you train anyway?

  • uhh she's filipino and she's not 12 and uhh i dunno much about her training, but she punches people a lot at skool lol

  • Regarding the criticism towards her work, i am a friend of hers, and she has openly told me that her techniques need work, and i know she works hard to correct them. She is also training in several other martial art forms, and is the hardest working student i have ever met.

  • dude your freakin hot alexis

  • Alexis, in case you read these comments, the person that said that was Michael, and this is PJ.

  • mikeaqueste=Michael

    LaSombraCazadora=PJ

  • ahhh man u told me out

  • Absolutamente desagradable, no hay necesidad de golpear el tsuka y aflojarlo, reaccion muy lenta, muchos cambios de agarre que hacen una reaccion lenta, es chiburi es muy suave, asi nunca va a poder limpiar la sangre

  • I see some harsh criticism from people. Criticize her all that you want but, all of you already know that the average everyday working person cannot pick up an Iaito or Shinken for that matter and do what she is doing now. She will progress further as long as she desires to.

  • @Lionsblood

true, man... everyone in the net is an expert and a critic. u.u

  • are you jealous? be honest

  • He just don't understand the beauty and real reson of practice with sword. Leave him with his problems :P

  • Stop being such wussys...Seriously, as soon as somebody says something that does not sound even remotely to "parents encouraging there children" you people start gasping...

Seriously if you cant handle negative people then you're definitely not mentaly mature or strong enough to have a katana.... What are you? Low self-esteem? What people think of what you do, does not matter, unless you're mental strength is that of a child...

P.S basilolo aren't we the omnipotent one hmmm??

  • Very nice! However I agree with some of the other commentors, the kiai is a little forced... need to put more 'HA! TOH!' into it, insted of 'ha... toh..'

Ha! toh! Yes... Very poetic, no?

  • There's a fitting loose on the katana ;)

  • Sweet!! Quite impressive...

  • I'm confused, what is the Jinmukai? What are they doing all TSKSR kata? And why has she been taught Gokui kata when she is at her current level?

Oh and that kiai is really annoying, but that's not really her fault.

  • Excellent!!!

  • Great Job!

  • Makes me wish my daughter still did Iai with me. She got bored....oh well. Great job.

  • Great!!!

  • Great!!!

  • Great!!!

  • Great!!!

  • Great!!!

  • very good Alexis! But tell your master that he MUST teach you to control the blade more precisely, for your safety

  • uhh...if you are talking about polishing of techniques, that's true for everybody. she looks like she knows what she's doing.

  • Looking at her once again, I agree that she is quite aware of her skills.

Your opinion: what do you think about theaching "advanced" iaito katas (the latest ones in the show) to a very young girl?

  • not sure how 'advanced' these are, personally i am not a katori shinto ryu practitioner...i've always thought there's too much jumping and kiai in their kata :). i think there's a certain physical and mental maturity one needs to achieve to begin practicing iai. not sure how mentally mature she is, but she is physically sufficient to handle a katana.

afterall, i don't see the marine corp giving psychiatric evaluations before they hand every 18 year old a gun...may be they do?

  • I believe that Otake sensei said that the reason behind the jumping and kiai in their katas was due to the fact that this IAI is done againts armour wearing attackers and therefore the need for extra power and intention. Its any body teaching TSKSR in the Miami area?

  • not firm and steady in the cut...

  • We must have a lot of Katori instructors watching these videos, seeing as how everybody knows what the proper technique is supposed to look like.

  • her hapoken needs work:P

  • ha ha

  • Wow, that was very good for her age! I'm sure she'll be one of the best.

  • Katori? ^^ Lovely Girl with Decent Technique for her age.

  • umm.... what???

  • She's very young ... she have all the time in the world to grow up. Keep going!

Finaly, the martial arts doesn't mean "the perfection" but the way until there.

  • Something she saw, something she does not understand, something she does not feel. To bad that a national trésor is not well represented. Bad kiai, bad directions. Practice de beginning forget the Gognyo.

  • howard high should get his head examined for letting this young lady practice with a shinken. One misstep and she could be seriously injured or maimed. She is clearly very dedicated and serious, but she does not have the emotional maturity to study koryu.

  • i was amused by all the comments on my daughter! actually she just learned all of that in one day and then her sensei videotaped it so that she could observer herself and refine it....she still has a long way to go...she is only 14.....

  • Aww, she's cute. :)

  • Looks like your very dedicated young lady. You'll make a great budoka

  • happo-ken is the ugliest i've ever seen. you do not understand what is going on! the strike, kiai & fumikomi is the same, they can't be separate!

whom you want to damage when practising zengo-thidori no tati? Lord? or a basketballman? or you try to cut the rays of sun?

.. and, every time you do no-to, remember that kashira points your enemy, katana's not a sabre!

  • Yes great job! more kime and practice and it will be perfect. Love this video. But what does yamashitabudo

knows about Iaijutsu, you do everything half fast! tadeshi yamashita is a karate man not a swordman. At least he thinks he is a swordsman Mr. Hollywood! Sorry

I just don't like fakes like yamashita.

  • Great. A good job

  • Great demo miss, domo!! Is it a iato? or a sharp katana?.

  • shinken (meanin' "sharp katana") will cut her for the humble merit. she still needs to practise with bokken

  • I wanna learn that!

  • She should have found a ligit teacher!
