Fabulous. Should be up there with 24 hours... Backstage....Something hold Heart.//
One of his best.
Sadly missed. Saw him many times - not only talented song writer, distictive singer .... could have taken him home after show for nothing else but a cuddle!!
@gotch09 This is from Gene's US lp "Heartbreaker" (1968). This song was released in UK and Europe as a single. It reached #19 in the UK in March, 1967
Damn, I saw him on T.V. not long ago, he looked great. I got "It Hurts To Be In Love" stole it off limewire, it was released before the Beatles hit America, what a voice. On the back of the first Stones Album it says, "thanks to Uncle Phil (Spector) and Uncle Gene". R.I.P. Mr. Pitney.
I did this song at a request of someone at the bar on my dj set tonight I never heard this song till i played the cd he gave me, this is an AMAZING song!
i thought this song was about a girl sent to the country by her ashamed parents to have an illigitimate baby but when i saw the words written down its not what i thought, a great song by a fine singer, a sort of newspaper story song i thought but it still is like that.
You was the right the first time around, in those days the newspaper socail page was important within a commuinity. And as he said they declined to take a stand (he meant the communtity, town). Sadly this happened alot in those days.
yes and there were beautiful minds in medieval times also, sometimes wiser than now even, sometimes less wise because alot of them couldn't read but on the whole i get what you mean - cruelty like this more accepted. The thing i like about this song is u get to know the drama about these people and what they think
Miss you Gene

Did he do this at the same time he sang "She's a Heartbreaker"? It seemes like EVERYONE made an appearance on "Beat Club"...

The words are not correct:
" It was always GIFTS they gave"...
NOT "hits". This changes the meaning of the song quite a bit. Thanks to subscriber
