I think the cleans sound pretty stellar and realistic. Very usable, but on the distorted stuff, I think it sounds pretty generic, flubby on the low end and for lack of a better term, fake. Especially the higher gain stuff. I'd like to try it out with some distortion pedals into the clean models and see how it fairs otherwise, the distortions are just unusable. Good news is your line out demo sounded pretty much like the mic'd up version so bravo on the line out direct sound.
This is Dan from ColVane, Vox has become our number one ! Amp of choice ! I uise the VT120 + model and it's fantastic !It has real depth to it's tones, great for our type of music ! Check out our page here on Youtube to see hot the Vox vt120+ works out for music other then metal ! I'll never use anything other than VOX !!
Hey Freddy, i have the vox vt 100 but i still have trouble getting a really nice clean sound for funk style playing, this is more or less when im trying to get a clean sound to store in one of the 8 storeable banks? they all seem to have a slight overdrive and dosnt sound totally clean any tips? cheers Nino
Hi! I am from Bosnia, I bought your VOX VT 100, and I must say that I am so glad and satisfied, It's loud, the tone is great, but I have a question!? I bought the VFS5 footswitch, and there are 8 stored sounds/programs, whatever.. Is it the same 8 programs, sounds on every VT series, or it isn't, because if it is I would like to know wich amp models did you use on the stored effects/programs. I would like to know wich amp model is on ch. 4 in first bank, the green bank, the tone is amazing! tnx
Can you please respond to the jack problem addressed by ScruptiousStrat1? I just bought the VT100 today and normally don't buy anything right away after reading comments such as his. The reviews that I have read have been quite good for the VT100 or is this jack problem only related to the VT50?
@MultiScoffer Couldn't agree more, I think my VT50 sounds great but I never know what volume level I'm going to get when I plug in! I blast it with switch cleaner and then have to stand there jamming to plug in and out until it starts to make some noise. This started shortly after purchase.
Hi Freddy. Thanks for the demo. I am after a new amp but it must have a warm fat jazz tone built in. I've looked at the Line 6; the Roland Cube and others. Most demos just go for rock and metal tones which is nice but no one plays some jazz. I'm looking for the Wes Montgomery/Pat Martino warm fat sound. You got close to it with the Tweed setting. Does this amp deliver a great jazz tone? I'm playing a Hofner Verythin Contemporary guitar amongst others. Can you give us a quick jazz demo.
@jmsbk12345 id get the vox for jazz i had to play some jazz at college and we have several of line 6 spider 30s roland cube 30s and the vox vt 30s and the vox sounded way better than the other 2
The Vox VT series represents great bang for bucks but they have two BIG problems:
1) The headphones out comes between the pre and power amps so you don't get any of the tube effect when using h'phones - why on earth was it put there????
2) And why oh why did they decide to "spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar" by putting what must be the cheapest and nastiest jack sockets in them?? I keep running out of switch cleaner - see the Vox Forums for more on this - it is a very common problem!!!
YES but if its a bigger venue you might need an amp stand to get it slightly leaning back so the sound carrys all the way to the back I Would do that with any combos for live use.
(I use my old half stack for live use, if its a bigger venue so that cab is slanted at the top to get to the back)
I just picked up a VT50 after watching this vid, love the amp my gibson les paul is awsome with this amp, I play everything from BB King to Black label society and this amp will do it all with ease. optional foot switch is a must.
a lot of guys have told me that the vox valvetronix is not good at metal...I have already bought the amp...Its the first day, so, I havent played the amp too much yet...I use a carvin dc series guitar...Is it really not good for metal??
I recently used an AD120VT with a Vox 412 cab at a studio and I am hooked. However, I found that the AD series was discontinued and replaced by the VT (?). I am looking for an amp head but there is not one in the VT line, what gives?
I also have the Tonelab SE pedal which I think is the best multi-effects pedal as it does not 'eat' up the original tone much.
man that strat is nasty!! if you ever wanna sell that thing, hit me up!!! please help me choose between the Vox vt100, or the Ibanez tbx150 tone blaster head. both fit what i want to do with my sound, and both are the same price. somebody help me!!
@Vguitar777 the 30W cranked was literally ALLLLLMOST loud enough for gigs and practice with an aggressive drummer, but to keep your clean tones clean, I'd go for the 50W to be safe!
Wow sounds amazing! My dad has a Vox amp he got for free that we just use to practice and for being .5W-5W, it sounds way louder than my Marshall MG 30FX haha. Do these get pretty loud then?
a quick question. while in guitar center, i encountered a situation with the vt100 on the "boutique metal" setting. is it supposed to have an insane volume swell at times? like, it was spotty at some times. was this from worn tubes, or what could it have been?
dudes, if only i had $500 to pick up the vt100.. im upgrading size by a lot, and this is the amp i will definitely be buying. i only need a way for a 15 year old guy to make that kinda cash insanely quick?
What's the EQ settings, on the Deluxe Tweed model? Tone sounds really sweet! I'm using Humbuckers and it just sounds muddy on that model! Need some tips, wanna have a perfect clean sound :)
It is amazing the quality tones that the VT line produces! While I have a 100 XL, I am not kidding when I say that against my VH100R either XL and all the demos of the new VT line sound as awesome! Plus less coin put out, less back end headache of the tubes (blasphemy I know), and models galore for anything! If pushed, I'd say that the Vox modeling amps are far better than Line6's price point equivalent. While my 100 XL doesn't have the # of models as my HD147, the 100 XL sounds as great!
I really want to get this amp, but the lack of an FX Loop is really drawing me away from it. All I want to do is add a BOSS RC-2 LoopStation to it, but I hear that the lack of an FX loop won't allow me to mix and match sounds (eg. It won't allow me to play electric guitar leads over an acoustic rhythm loop). Any insight into this?
Wow Freddy your playing is outstanding, you bring "mood" to the sound. Question for you: What type of speaker is used in the VT50 and is it the same speakers that are used in the VT100?
I have this amp and i was wondering, if anyone knew what the US' 90, and Uk 90's amps were modled after? (I'm guessing one of them is a Marshall JVM 900.)
pls tell me, should i buy the vox 30 or line 6 spider IV 30? I like versatility and mostly heavy sounds. I also consider buying a marshall or a peavey or even a roland cube! Would be my first amp!
The licks are original. Sometimes I hint at a popular lick to show the amp can cop that style, but it would be against copy right protection if I played other people's licks on a video for a product..
The VT50 has a 12" speaker and more watts than the VT30. Also you have an option on the VT50 to a speaker. However if you do not need to compete with real heavy hitting drummers, the VT30 is cool for small clubs and home jamming.
@VOXampsforever hey freddy by the way do you use the valvetronix amps series and also i was thinking of getting this with a paul read smith se custom guitar if u thing thats a good way to go if it isnt could u advise me coz i cant spend more than that for a guitar
@VOXampsforever yo freddy, what vox would you recommend for a modern metal/death metal tone? and what cabinet (im looking for a 4x12) would go best with it? Im looking for a mesa dual rec tone. thanks
You can plug all those effects into the front of the amp. Only the chorus would sound good in a loop, but chorus pedals usually sound good through the front end of the amp as well.
I've bought the VT50. Can you please tell me what actual amp is Boutique metal modeled on? Is it the Engl Invader? You can send it to me as a personal message if you prefer but I would be really grateful if you could tell me :D
How come you didn't show the AC30 model? I'd really like to see that, in fact I am buying this amp because of that model. Which would you recommend VT100 or VT50? I don't need 100 watts, so I am asking if VT50 is in any way inferior in terms of sound quality. And, which one does better AC30 sound? Thank you for the demonstrations. :)
The 100 watt VT has a very similar chassis and 2 12" speakers, like a typical AC 30. However both the 50 and 100 reproduce great AC30 models. You will notice a bigger sound emitting from the 100, as it has more power and 2 speakers. The 50VT is very powerful and focused. The AC30 model on the 50 feels very accurate as well. I would base my decision on how much stage volume and headroom you need. If possible you should try both at a music store.
these videos are excellent for deciding on whether or not to buy this amp! I've decided, but now I am wondering which to get...the 50 or the 100? I don't want to sacrifice low end by getting a single 12", but I also don't know if I need the big power of the 2X12...thoughts? I play new country to new metal live in bars, to festival out door shows.
Ohh Sorry Freddy, but I've made a mistake, I wanna say, about the Vox Tonelab "ST", not the "SE", but again thanks... thanks alot for your time and answer, you are great, and sorry about the problems I've caused you.
Hi freddy, Im here again, thanks a lot for you answer about the amp and pedals, now I have another question, how does the Vox Tonelab SE would work with the amp?, The Tonelab with her valve could be a great help as a preamp section and sound even better? or nothing different to be happy about? lol that sounds funny...
You most certainly can use the SE to front end your amp. The Line/Amp feature should be switched to an amp selection.
Try setting the SE to Line. Now plug the SE output into your amps effects "Return" bypassing the amps preamp stage. Be careful and keep the STs "Level" dial on the front of the unit down at first, as this may be full range output going through the amps effects return.
Freddy Hi again thanks for your explanation. You do not know how much I appreciate that an expert like you advise me about this amp. Now I understand what you mean. Anyway in the video introduction I appreciate that you were using flanger, rotary, and phaser on a single channel. Is it a preset? Again thanks and I hope the new video!
hey there. In the video, you may be miss understood. I was saying that for this video I will not be using those modulation effects. So there is no preset, or way to use, Phaser, Flanger and Rotary on a single channel. Sorry for the miss understanding.
Hi freddy, thanks to you I decided on this amp, I am very satisfied and the truth is it's excellent. But I have one concern: how do I make simultaneous effects? Could be explained in a video? From already thank you very much for your work. You rocks!
I am getting started on another VT video, where I dial in tones and effects. To answer your question, you can dial in reverb seperate from the other effects and you can use the dual effects. Ex. of a dual effect, would be the "Chorus and Delay" program. You can add reverb, giving you a total of 3 effects. You cannot combine more than one effects program, other than reverb, at once. The 100 watt VT has an effects loop so you can add your outbord effects to combine with the intenal effects.
It depends on the amp model as to how well the amp accepts pedals. Most of the models work great with most pedals. This is a great way to make one amp model have a second vibe and tone that is an addition to the tons of tones already in the amp. Delay pedals can go in the front of the amp, but with the 100 watt VT, try using the effects loop for the delay pedal.
Yes he is my brother. We have two releases out as the DeMarco Brothers, "Shipwrecked" an instrumental from the 90s, and our current release is "Bloodmoon", which is a rock record with a killer vocalist.
It is really great that you guys really read peoples comments and respond in a good way that ACTUALLY HELPS! No other company would do that! I got a VT50 and I love it! You guys at VOX should be really proud!
The 12AX7 tube is used in the "POWER" section of all Valvetronix products. I know we always see the 12ax7 used as a preamp tube, but our engineers use it in the power section. The tube gives really headroom and response, as the original tube amps do. The Valvetronix tube power section, also reconfigures, to model each individual amps power section, with authenticity.
what song is that at 2:42

I've bought the VT50. Can you please tell me what actual amp is Boutique metal modeled on? Is it the Engl Invader? You can send it to me as a personal message if you prefer but I would be really grateful if you could tell me :D

How come you didn't show the AC30 model? I'd really like to see that, in fact I am buying this amp because of that model. Which would you recommend VT100 or VT50? I don't need 100 watts, so I am asking if VT50 is in any way inferior in terms of sound quality. And, which one does better AC30 sound? Thank you for the demonstrations. :)
VlastaStevanovich 2 years ago
No reason for not demoing the AC30 model.

Ohh Sorry Freddy, but I've made a mistake, I wanna say, about the Vox Tonelab "ST", not the "SE", but again thanks... thanks alot for your time and answer, you are great, and sorry about the problems I've caused you.
mysticalzero 2 years ago
No problem at all. The same goes for the ST. Only the Line/Amp selector will be found on the front of the ST.
Glad to help!

Well freddy, thanks again for your time.
mysticalzero 2 years ago

Again thanks and I hope the new video!
p3rf3ck 2 years ago

You rocks!
p3rf3ck 2 years ago
I am getting started on another VT video, where I dial in tones and effects. To answer your question, you can dial in reverb seperate from the other effects and you can use the dual effects. Ex. of a dual effect, would be the "Chorus and Delay" program. You can add reverb, giving you a total of 3 effects. You cannot combine more than one effects program, other than reverb, at once. The 100 watt VT has an effects loop so you can add your outbord effects to combine with the intenal effects.

Wow, I really thought that the 12AX7 was in the pre, but I'm really happy to know that is in the power section, that's why souns so good.
Hi Freddy, I have a question... how well does the amp accept pedals like a Vox Satchurator, or any other distortion pedal?
And the same with effect pedals like delay, chorus...
Thanks a lot for your time freddy!
mysticalzero 2 years ago
It depends on the amp model as to how well the amp accepts pedals. Most of the models work great with most pedals. This is a great way to make one amp model have a second vibe and tone that is an addition to the tons of tones already in the amp. Delay pedals can go in the front of the amp, but with the 100 watt VT, try using the effects loop for the delay pedal.

FairviewBand013 2 years ago
Yes he is my brother. We have two releases out as the DeMarco Brothers, "Shipwrecked" an instrumental from the 90s, and our current release is "Bloodmoon", which is a rock record with a killer vocalist.

great! now i got a question. which section does vt series uses tube? pre amp or power amp? what is the difference? regards
sild123 2 years ago
The 12AX7 tube is used in the "POWER" section of all Valvetronix products. I know we always see the 12ax7 used as a preamp tube, but our engineers use it in the power section. The tube gives really headroom and response, as the original tube amps do. The Valvetronix tube power section, also reconfigures, to model each individual amps power section, with authenticity.
