electrons does not flow in a wire. electrons only change the property of a material when a potential difference change into a wave. instead of electrons randomly moving around you have electrons forming a coherent alignment but under constant change. there is no potential difference (volt) in a load. its the direction of field that is created in the conductor that is the direction of the current.
Amps are the total amount of electrons flowing past a given point. For a full description of what amps, volts and watts are, just look at a few of my videos. Kinda long running but absolutely descriptive.
Guys remember that computer system's power supplies only convert the 10 amps your power cord is bringing into the power supply into wattages that your computer components can use. It still draws 10 amps, but only uses ~3-8, depending on your power supply.
thanks man for the vid, i just needed to know because the HD4890 uses 40A, and the TX850W has 70A on the 12v rail. hope i don't have to turn other stuff off(U.S.)
Because, some houses may have 100-200 amp service, there are multiple fuses in each house (one per each room) which divides up the total service. You had to many plugged into 1 fuse.
You don't get limited services, well not in the UK anyway. We have a 100 amp sealed fuse in the fuse box outside, most people do, but if you require more, you can ask the electric company to fit a bigger one, but it will cost extra on bills!
I myself live in The Netherlands, where we use 230 volts in house service. The US use 110 volts if I'm right, so relatively the computer setups there use more amps than e.g. The Netherlands.
hey Rodney, my 500W StealthXstreme went dead recently from powering an overclocked 7750BE dual core 6GB of Corsair XMS2 and 2 9800GT's. I'm going to upgrade to a Phenom II X4 940 and 2 GTX 275's in the future and I have my eye on the Corsair HX 750 or 850, what would you recommend, thanks in advance =)
No i haven't. i hate Tigers over enthusiastic way of doing vids, so i skip'em all. You just made me a little happier that i do. No need for more noob questions:-)
the sound from the speaker would have a lower volume (though in your case a barely noticeable difference). If you do the opposite, say plug a 4 ohm speaker into an 8 ohm socket, you will start to hear buzzing.
Actually don't quote me on that, that's from what I can remember.
car battery volts and amps are the same

Couldn't you simply Google search Amperage?

110 V * 10 A = 1100VA = 1100 W
Pretty serious rigs on that lan party ;)

for the record. Computers with 850w (or any other wattage at that) psu's dont actually consume 850w. they use much less.
my pc (850w corsair psu, 4870x2, q9300, 4hdd's apart from other stuff), consumes about 1.2 amps at load on a 230v mains supply. thats about 300w.

10 amps is a pretty powerful pc. at most i pull 6 and my computer is by no means slow.

Well, I thought just a GPU took up more than 20 amps...

even if it draws 500 watts then it's only 4 . some odd amps.

I one had a LAN-party with four friends (we used mid-range and low-range PCs) and we somehow blew the fuse. How did this happen?

As Rodney pointed out: Watts
Amps= ----------- Volts

timdietz88 2 years ago
same here in australia we use 240-250 volts at 50hz dont no the calculation but anyway it uses far less amps
