Here's the truth kiddo. Pro Wrestling isn't a sport, its a athletic soap opera. To say the guys aren't athletes is a lie. The are in outstanding shape, and execute some dangerous and entertaining stunts. Its not a sport, nor is it claimed to be a sport. It's dramatic physical theater.

I've done schoolastic wrestling and I am currently a pro wrestler. The only similarities are crowds and spandex.

Nowadays esp. on raw that ring won't make a difference on what the show is about because no one gives a damn about the wrestling it's just the storylines. Bruno Sammartino refuses to be in the HOF because of the outrageous storylines (wat im talkin bout). In the ring you can still get busted knees, concussions, stingers, dislocated shoulder, torn ligaments, or get paralyzed just like any contact SPORT.

Also, I for one plan on going pro. I backyard wrestle and it's tremendously dangerous. I have a 7 inch gash on my leg from a botched spot (I am not big into hardcore but bleh) and it truly is dangerous. Plus one of the hardest parts it keeping your opponent safe from injury.

For example, lifting and carrying a guy between 200-600 pounds and throwing him around or being thrown around for 10 minutes to an hour. Yes, there's storylines but those are simply a means to add more entertainment and to entertain a variety of people.

As far as I'm concerned, things that I like with professional wrestling are exactly types of things seen in soap operas. Emotions are always exagarated, I just MUST see how the storyline will end, but more than often you get to see a display of athletism that's simply breath taking (very much like watching a trainwreck ... you cannot take your head away from watching it).

The whole soap opera thing is part of wrestling. Its entertainment and wrestling. They build up feuds between wrestlers to give the match meaning. If you don't want too much soap operas then check out Ring of Honor. They have a channel on youtube. TNA also has one.

WWE/TNA are soap opera-ish. ROH prefers the athletic parts with the stories revolving around the action. That's just my view.
