  • i aint no car sprayer but i would say that you would need 4 litres to do a big car but check as i may be well out on that

  • hi i have a question how much paint did you think i need to paint a whole car i have a nissan 300zx im thinking about buying hok paint did you think 1 quart its in off or i need more thank you

  • @mexic1an I don't think a quart will be enough for one car. You might want to ask a local paint jobber. You are talking about probably a couple of quarts.

  • Doc , I believe you are mistaken ,,, with paint ratios the paint is always , always,, the first number.

2:1 means 2 parts paint 1 part reducer..which has always been hoks standard recommendation... not the bible of course

  • @TheRocketSilo and if there are 3 numbers like 3:2:1 it's

paint:hardener:reducer... this is the industry standard .. the paint amount is always first

that's why the mixing cups have the paint column first.. you always add to the paint. not paint to reducer or hardener

  • @TheRocketSilo That makes perfect sense. Thanks, Andy.

  • @TheRocketSilo Thanks, Andy, yes, you are right, but since math has never been my forte, and I don't use any paint system that requires hardener, I just use the cups for the mixing. The rest is loose eyeballing. Best, DC

  • @damncranky666 me too , it's works for you , that's what matters . It's all good, just wanted to clear up the ratio thing for viewers future reference.

if just using 2 components , you ignore the third column on the cup .

pour paint in the first column to a numbered line, than pour reducer "to the same number" in the second column. that will give the correct reduction for the ratio you choose to use

  • @TheRocketSilo Thanks, Andy, yes, that's my main goal, to have people get the right information so that they don't struggle like I do. THANK YOU, my friend.

  • Have you found any paints that come ready to spray or is it a general rule of thumb that some reducing will be required? Do you recommend some kind of hot fan or dryer to better bake the color in? I like those little bowls with how much you should mix, they look like a big help, and somewhat of a stress reliever. Reducer is almost the same as a lacquer or enamel thinner?

  • @faithfulcmm1972 You can get ready to spray, mixed paints from COASTAIRBRUSH. They sell HOK by the ounce. I usually get the 2-4oz mixes. Good stuff. Just protect your skin, lungs, eyes, etc . . . be safe when you spray paint. Every paint system has its own thinner. Use it when you can. Thanks for staying tuned in.

  • What primer do you use underneath the HoK paints? I want to use HoK paints rather than the Tamiyas I have.

  • @zero32000 I use Plastikote exclusively, it's the one primer that has always done the best for me.

  • i used house of kolor all time for airbrushing man is the best paint for anything

  • Depends on the paint system. If I am using urethane, I use cheap lacquer thinner, and if I am using acrylics, I use window cleaning fluid. I also use AUTO AIR COLORS AIRBRUSH CLEANER, that stuff works like a charm.

  • what do you use to clean the sprayers/tools?

  • THIS IS GREAT DOC!!

  • You can get bottles from sks-bottle. Google them.

  • great vid thanx

  • where did you get the contaier to store the paint in?

  • Great question, I have a couple of over-mouth-and-nose masks from Home Depot, and they help keep the vapors out. You have to make sure it fits right. If you smell the vapors, then it's NOT covering you. You have to put it on and NOT smell anything.

  • What kind of saftey equipment do you recommend? Like face mask?

  • @ModelKarKid I purchased a good mask from an auto body supply shop, back when I used it on my large rockets ,,, however I moved to the acrylics for plastic models ,, this system is very expensive for simple car models and requires total safety precautions ! the ill effect to your body is accumulative

  • House of Kolor is automotive paint but it can be used on metal, wood, and or plastic with great results.

The paint strainer DOES NOT remove the metal flake from the paint. If the flakes were bigger, it would, but these are pearls.

  • Hi Dr C,

Does the filter paper remove any of the metal flecks from the paint?

  • Dr.Cranky what is this type paint for ????????? Like is this type of paint for metal wood and or for plastic ?

  • nice how to,doc!
