From what my tutor (Japanese) explained based on his friends and family's experiences, their primary concern is that westerners might in fact see them as 'stupid' for not being able to accommodate westerners through the use of English while in Japan, particularly when a westerner can use some Japanese whereas the person they're speaking to may not understand any English at all. I guess it's kind of a matter of pride in terms of reciprocal capacity discrepancies...

No ones gonna know exactly care/remember the language unless it's spoken widely where they live *points to large espanol speaking population in the states near the border of mexico and parts of the U.S.* or a person wanted to go there and was interested In there language.

Japanese has a special kind of onomatopoeia that mimics things that don't actually have sounds. "Perapera" is the sound of fluency. So that's why they keep saying perapera--because they're speaking English fluently. It doesn't mean 'blah,' it's just that there is no good way to translate it into English.

@coolmartcola Well, in the Western world, if you combine the all the English speaking countries, it´s clear why other countries have to learn English to be competitive in the market. East Asia, on the other hand, is doing well on their own. Japan, being a country smaller than California, has nearly 1/3 the GDP of all of America combined. China is quickly catching up to the US and is expected to surpass us. At this rate it may not be long before we start having to learn their language...

@ne77s yes china will surpass usa..it's just a matter of time...but the cultural influence of america will still be there...it will always be...i don't expect other countries singing chinese songs or imitating chinese actors/actresses....they don't have the groundwork to influence the culture of other countries...the only thing they can do that is to invade other countries w/c i think the will do on asia...they'll invade phil , mongolia and korea...once they got all the power..trust me

It's just that some Americans have this "the whole world is 'MERICA" attitude and think we're the center of everything. We go to Europe and Asia as tourists and tell people to speak English. It's ridiculous. It is that mentality that is why so many people hate us.

People become superpowers through war, like how the USA became a superpower in WW2. China wont stand a chance, big army, but no space power.
