i have a 2000 Chevy single cab with the 4.3L. I don't know much of anything about engines, so could someone message me the links to where i could get a simple turbo or a way to gain HP and "speed". My engine is all stock as of right now.
I put a straight pipe off the cat to a side exit on my friends 93 4.3 Vortec Blazer, and the fucker sounds MEAAAANNNN. THe idle is classic old school muscle, with the baritone raising only slightly as the revs increase.
Never was an American car fan... until I encountered her Vortec engine!
You're kidding right? You DOUBT meaning you DON'T know, and you present that statement as fact?99% of those so called V8 Muscle Cars had DICK for power. The only people who ever had big power V8 cars back when were rich. THe majority of REAL muscle cars never saw bigger engines until they were swapped out kiddo. You ever driven an all original 400 hp muscle car? Well I have, and that 400 hp rating is bullshit, read at the crank, and delivered to the wheels like SHIT.
The Blazer is putting down more torque and HP than your I-Roc, and does so FAR more efficiently and quickly. Do you know ANYTHING about cars, or do you just spout shit that sounds like it might be right?
Your I-Roc, was, is, and always will be an utter piece of shit, as ANY Camaro enthusiast knows.
@circutracer150 ummm no it doesn't. It sounds just like a v6. v6's never sound like a v8. maybe close at idle but as soon as you hit the gas you can hear a huge difference. How could you say it has more power than most of them ever did? I'm not dissin on you at all because the chevy 4.3 v6 is a great motor with plenty of power, but it's still not a v8!
@circutracer150 well, readin all your other comments to everyone else you were sayin that it has more power than old muscle cars. Old 71 ss 454 chevelles were puttin out 385-400 HP at the rear wheels. Bout twice the ammount of a 4.3. They are great motors though! I had a s10 blazer before with headers, custom exhaust, intake, throttle body spacer, and hot distributor and it would smoke alot of v8 trucks off the line but they would catch up in the long run when the v6 fell short on power!
this is only a few weeks after he put it on...it has been over a year since then, and the muffler is all broken in and a LOT louder then it is now..but the same sound and tone. If you wanted it louder..you could take the cats off...but make sure your blazer is emissions exempt (1995 or older) or you don't have to do emissions testing. It won't pass without a cat on.
@jeffosho do you have any vids of this Blazer now? after 2 years the packing inside has to be gone, bet it sounds even better, i want my buddy to put one on his 04 Blazer
@snakesonaplane2 I do not as of now, but i'll take one as soon as I can and post it as a video response to this video. Or you could subscribe and wait for it. It probably is much louder
@jeffosho cool, also is there a noticable difference from stock to that catback, as far as power increase and/or mileage increase? the stock muffler on Blazer's is massive and the tailpipe is tiny so i figure this catback must help a lot in both area's
@snakesonaplane2 Talked to the owner...I guess the pipe before the setup rusted out (thank's wisconsin winters) and he replaced it. Just a minor increase in mileage and obviously sound. Not really noticeable power-wise
@jeffosho usually catbacks help a bit but not much, it's headers that do the trick but 4.3 headers cost an arm and a leg, i'd rather swap in a V8 at that point but the Vortec 4.3 is pretty good in small trucks, buddy of mine has a regular cab S10 with the 4.3 and a 5spd and 2WD, it's a quick little truck
@snakesonaplane2 The 4.3 is a great motor...very realiable and parts are cheap. Pretty ballsy for what it is. It depends where you look for headers. Pacesetter has headers on ebay right now for $181.97 with free shipping

its really not a cat-back if its single in single out
sledhead94 1 year ago
@sledhead94 A catback refers to anything from the catalytic convertor back, regardless of how many inlets or outlets it may have.

Oh yeah I've had a couple friends who straight piped it. LOVE that sound.
Another cool setup for the vortech is to get rid of the cat and just run a flow 40.
jeffosho 2 years ago
sorry to break it to yea,
but a v6 will never sounds like an old school muscle car,
plow0www 2 years ago
That's an objective opinion, and wrong.
Her Blazer sounds JUST fucking like an old V8, and has MORE power than most of them EVER did.
circutracer150 2 years ago
HAHA!
I highly doubt that a 4.3L has more power then a fucking v8 muscle car.
just stop running your mouth, you dont know what you're talking about.

@blubyuchevy It most certainly isn't a V8, as I now know since I own a 5.4 Triton Expo.
But this V6 Vortec certainly has the best of both worlds... low end torque of a V8, high end power of a 4 cylinder...
I think now that it sounds more akin to mean V-Twin bike... especially at idle with no cats!
