  • What a wanna be. Not even close.

  • He was handed that record by his label staff c'mon. That or he discovered Son on YouTube. Eff you. "This spoke to me in a thousand different ways..." ... sound like a teen talking. FOS.

    G

  • @wendileona i'm not gonna bother insulting you, but that is completely wrong. is an extract from the documentary in which 3 musicians share thier lives. this is jack white a baddass blues rock perfomrer, and he was inspired by this song when he was 18, when he was 18, youtube didnt exist and he didnt have a label company to give him this record.

  • this could be a SNL skit. so ridiculous.

  • The film is why Im here and I also have a new respect for White. Yes im late to the party lol

  • I'm a closet blues lover :p

  • The Blues. It explains why Jack White is a guitar hero, it's why Led Zeppelin rules, and it's total absence from todays music (Yeah you hip hop) is why our fathers are rolling over in their graves.

  • @boogiemaam lol @nobody-mentions-The_Edge

  • For me, this was the high point of the film. Jack White is my new hero.

  • great shit

  • >Jack White video

    >Firebird X ad

    >wat

  • What a great record you are holding Jack... Wish I had the money to afford it :P

  • As someone who is not into most modern music I have gained so much respect for Jack White after seeing stuff like this.

  • @grevejp44 Oh please!

    g

  • "all that mattered was the attitude of the song"no drums, music, only attitude mattered.that says alot to me.

  • Poser sell out

  • silly english

  • Fuckin cool. Thats really laid back to share that with everyone. You can't put a price on a piece of mind:-)

  • To the people addressing loombaroom: I think his comments can be interpreted as a critique of Jack's attitude in this clip and not necessarily a personal attack. If you disagree with a negative comment, or consider it trolling, the appropriate attitude is to ignore it.

  • aRE YOU GIVING mISSISSIPPI jOHN hURT SOME CREDIT FOR THIS?

  • does any body knw what 45 thats off of? the audio is superb!!

  • @Spearman22 its not a single is it?

  • he played elvis in walk hard: the dewey cox story :D

  • jacks cover of this would probably involve him playing a crappy heavily distorted guitar and singing through a distorted microphone. boring!

  • @astroboirap That's an odd assumption, he never does either of those.

  • @purpleownz176 haha yeah right, thats his whol "schtick"

  • @astroboirap It appears you are deaf and can't troll.

  • @purpleownz176 get a decent music taste

  • @astroboirap My point still stands

  • @purpleownz176 not really. hit me back when u've brought a new pair of ears

  • @astroboirap I see you trollin around on all the white stripes video. Fuck off and get a life bud.

  • @purpleownz176 stfu and get a new pair of ears u twat

  • leave it out jack

  • How did 35 Justin Bieber fans get to this video? Great scene from an excellent documentary.

  • Reminds me of Little Room.

  • @loombaron Dude, stop being a troll. The White Stripes and Jack White they are both amazing. You can think what you think, but just don't go hating on them just because you clicked on a video.

  • He is bearing his soul.. and feelings that move him.. true artist r moved by whatever touches their souls.. Rock on Jack. and b true to your soul! Dont ever sell out!!!

  • legit

  • whos better...Son House or Gucci Mane? ALRIGHT HATERS, LEMME HAVE IT!

  • A real musician such as himself would see the beauty in a song with no instrument. If only real music like that existed today.

  • @JessicaH662 Oh, come on! First of all, it's not like jack is dead. he's not even old. And secondly, There IS "real" music like this today. There's plenty of blues, folk and rock bands out there today that are good. They just don't play it on the radio..

It's like, you can't even go in on a year old song on youtube without hearing that "Music like this doesn't exist anymore"

  • @JessicaH662 there is no such thing as real music, or fake music, only music.

  • @Bludhoundz8 yes true but there is a diffrence between good music and bad music and its HARD finding good music

  • @sgtpepper19100 That is highly subjective, but I do agree

  • @Bludhoundz8 I would agree with you, but I still think Rap is poetry, not music, some idiot just decided to loot an electronics store in 1970's New York and add a drum machine to it...

  • @loombaron

    shut the fuck up

  • You posers and haters expand your horizons or go back to the Bieber channel

  • Son House is awesome! I'm glad that Jack is a fan too.

  • Is this guy a walking cliche?

  • Comment removed

  • @GhostyFilms lol

  • @GhostyFilms

    Yes.

  • good taste.....

  • that song suits him. it has the blues feel, and the minimalist feel. Jack White is most definitely a minimalist and you couldn't get him away from his blues once he switched bands.

  • Haha maybe inspired little room, a rock and roll version basically

  • thats what i call taste in music

  • Comment removed

  • @loombaron You are what I call, haven't got a clue. Just go back to Green Day, Mr. Hopeless. Ya, John Lee Hooker and Bukka White suck too, right ?

  • @loombaron You trollin? Or just clueless?

  • Hey Jack, I see you have the Big Muff Pi.

  • Jack White looks like a 50 year old lesbian, but he is rad.

  • His voice is like sex.

  • True that..... True that. \/ \/

  • The way Jack White feels about Son House, is the way I feel about Jack White.

  • @Viciousfella lol.....

  • @comfortjjc Shit?? r u kidding he's amazing.

  • @comfortjjc I feel sorry for people like you...

  • @LoudnProud42 well. stop, your wasting your time

  • Son House. The Father of the delta blues............

  • that gave me goosebumps

  • @Tzefri84

Alot of The White Stripes music is based on the blues...

  • Whatbkind of turntable is that ?

  • i didnt know the dude from white stripes-i think?-liokes the blues

    i like him now :)

  • I have been in music my entire life... music shops i was raised in..... Jack White is ahead of his time... remember the last person to be hacked on as crap.....Jim Morrison.....

  • idk y people r hating on jack white he jus a guy doin his thing. i dont lil wayne but i dont rave an say he jus bullshit

  • I used to not care for Jack White until I watched this movie. I now have much respect for him after seeing it.

  • Oh no. If I read further, am I going to have to put up with more (typical) Jack White hate?! .... Maybe I'll just stop right where I am and not subject myself to the idiocy.

  • jack white is a dick further more black america has been doin the same shit for the last 100 yrs son house is just another example of it if it wasn't for the influence of the blues which was all black america at one time i would hate to see where rok and roll would have ended up

  • (Cont.) You're way off-base when you say this

is "african worker chant songs". The nature of

vocal music brought by Black slaves to America

& used when they worked can not be accurately

determined. Of the earliest audiorecordings of

Black work songs there is no way to determine

how much they had changed from what the slaves

had brought from Africa. The fact they are singing in

English shows a significant change that may have

been related to other significant changes.

  • (Cont.) What House is doing in the recording is definitely not the very beginning of Rock. That's absurd. His hand clapping is off-time & irregular in frequency, the opposite of a backbeat. The historical record shows that backbeat was 1st noticed long ago when Blacks in churches were hitting tambourines on the 2nd & 4th beats in 4/4 time. Backbeat was incorporated into Boogie Woogie & backbeat was a fundamental element in the confluence of elements that became Rock 'n Roll. (Cont.)
  • To arkee71 You're mistaken on several points,

& you contradicted yourself several times. You

said that when we listen to any song by Son

House we're listening to pure country blues.

You're showing you don't know your Son House

history. He was steeped in Black spiritual music

1st & didn't start playing guitar til the 1920s. Much

of his music has elements common in spirituals,

such as this song, which is an amalgam of

elements from spirituals & Blues. (Continued)

  • I have much respect for what Jack White has done to help Blues music. Having said that, I am very surprised that Son House's "Grinnin' in Your Face" is his favorite song. I first started noticing Blues music about 1954 & have heard an enormous amount of Blues music over the decades from the early Bluesmen to today & I can't agree that it's a special song. Son House made lots of great music though. Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson of Canned Heat did much to bring House back to public awareness
  • @LoneTinaja Who cares if it's a special song? does everyone find your favorite song as "special" or is it simply special to you?

  • @GoWestMonkey - If you listen to what Jack White says

he doesn't simply say it's his favorite. He says "I didn't

know that you could do that just singing & clapping."

    That is big hyperbole. When I said I can't agree it's a

special song I mean it doesn't stack up against a

very large number of other Blues songs. He says

"It means everything about Rock 'n Roll." That is 1 of

the biggest statements of hyperbole in music I've

ever heard in my 6 decades. That said, Jack does

    great work.

  • @LoneTinaja what is "stack up" mean anyway...means you think its better or whatever....fine ...but remember that when you listen to any song by son house...youre are listening to pure country blues...and probably the very beginning of rock ...its a backbeat...a groove...that was very new to music at the time...this is gospel music...and african worker chant songs...and its doesent get any more "close to the bone" real than this...just on that fact alone..it stands up to any music very well

  • Robert Johnson and Leadbelly. there is nothing else

  • @RHCPgroupie42 Poor you.

  • Beautiful tune,thamk you......

  • i love how the BIG MUFF sits quietly...waiting........

  • Son House rules. I'm glad Jack White brought him to the forefront in the movie. He's been living in Robert Johnson's shadow for decades.

  • Woah.....he's so deep../sarcasm

  • @ElectricTurkey1 You sure know a lot about Jack White don't you?

  • How can you say any few people are the best musicians ever? That is absurd. Jack is good, The Beatles are good. Great moment though. and great song, sort of reminds me of Fuck You Blues by The Electric Flamingos

  • what do you play? And what's your name? I would say he can do something sense he is more known then you so unless u can do better then him shut up and y look up a vid of him if u don't like him? I guess that makes a lot of sense.

  • Lol you dont have to sound like your inspirations youre just supposed to be inspired by them...

  • try Robert Johnson\\

  • best jack white music ever!!!!! oh, that wasn't him singing and clapping? Oh, darn... I was starting think he actually had talent. It's so funny because he cites the beatles, blues, and all this real amazing stuff as influences of his, but then he gets up and plays unintelligible, loud shit and then screams unintelligible loud shit. He did try to cover The Beatles' Mother Natures' son. Needless to say, it was horrendously awful. Just terrible....

  • @tpstrat14 what kind of shit are you listening to? boring ass john mayer? haha

  • @Abe91195 lol... no boring ass beatles right now. Just discovered them and I'm in love. It's all I'm listening to. Before that, Clifford Brown, Max Roach, Miles Davis. Jack White doesn't have 1% the talent of those he admires, so I won't be listening to him. Rather, I'll listen to who he admires!

  • @tpstrat14 the beatles, my favorite band. we cant all have a perfect taste in music.

  • @Abe91195 the beatles are you favorite band and you like Jack White? come on, now...

  • @tpstrat14 i like jack white, and apperantly paul mccartney does to, and the rolling stones, and jimmy page.

  • @Abe91195 ...how... he has no talent. I mean, he clearly has no singing talent. Guitar is questionable. He might have some guitar talent. I can't really tell though. Most of what he plays is unintelligible.

  • @tpstrat14 well i guess the 'stones, led zeppelin, and paul mccartney, see beyond that. i bet you wouldnt like howlin wolf or robert johnson.

  • @Abe91195 Can you point me to a link/quote of Paul McCartney saying he likes Jack White? I'll believe it when I see it...

  • @tpstrat14 well he did invite jack white to play for him and obama, and you may point out that he also invited the jonas brothers, but thats only because obama's daughters are fans of the jonas brothers. if he didnt think jack was a decent musician he wouldnt have invited him.

  • @Abe91195 Hmm....we may disagree on this point, but at least we can agree that Paul McCartney and the Beatles were so freakin awesome that if Paul McCartney thinks someone is good, then they're good :) Seriously, the Beatles are the best music group to ever hum a note.

  • @tpstrat14 i absolutely agree with that, the beatles are best musicians ever.

  • @Abe91195 ....no

  • @Abe91195 What do you mean by musicians? That is a very general term.

  • @tpstrat14 Stop acting like such a pretentious, pseudo-intellectual. Jack White has got some real talent, and his music is all raw emotion, something lacking in this music age. You clearly don't understand what music is about if you think he's just playing "loud shit".

  • @rpsmith014 If you like raw emotion without discernible talent that's kind of like blending the ingredients to a 5 star quality meal and expecting it to taste the same as if a professional chef had prepared it. Raw emotion is all I look for in music. But you do well with a nice helping of talent as well (which Jack doesn't have in my opinion) Check out Wilhelm Kempf performing the moonlight sonata. That is raw emotion COMBINED with raw talent...

  • @tpstrat14 I totally understand what you're saying, the only difference between us is that I can see a hell of a lot of talent in Jack White along with the passion. I've listened to just about everything that he has made and can tell you that the scope and variety of his music is very impressive to me. He's also, in my opinion, a very good song writer, not to mention an awesome performer. Try checking out more of his stuff and see if your opinion changes. BTW, that Kempf was wonderful.

  • @rpsmith014 I'm just venting like an asshole. No, I don't like Jack White AT ALL, but I have no place saying he has no talent. What the fuck is talent? That's an opinion thing. My bad if I insulted you by saying he has no talent... But yea, I'll check out some more stuff and see what people are raving about...

  • @tpstrat14 That's alright. Yeah, my friend thought that he was just pretentious and took himself to serioulsy, then I showed him some of his lesser known materia with the White Stripes and The Raconteurs and so on, and his opinion changed. I'm not saying yours will too, but I see so much talent in this guy that it's hard for me to imagine someone not.

  • fucking noob that jack white

  • 1:33 Jack White is one of the best dressed musicians out there. now that is what I call real swag.

  • Jack White is one of the funkiest white men ever.

  • Yes he is!

  • @Spo8 Yeah, that guy has got some groove.

  • wtf why cant i see it.. the whole movie man

  • @xx2n23 Careful, you maybe awake with an Airline guitar through your chest because of what you've said . . .

  • Death Letter is my favourite track of all time, who's version I can't decide

  • @xx2n23

    Fuck you,

  • i dont care if it its justin beiber, if jack white was inspired by him, i would learn about him.

  • Such a great movie!

  • LOVE LLOVELOVELOVE

  • son house.

  • Jack White is the talent!!!!

  • What a douche

  • @jesuslasher666 You go by the name "Jesuslasher666" and you have the audacity to call anybody else on Earth a douche. Take a look at yourself little boy, take a *real* good look at yourself.

  • @jesuslasher666 Hey man. Go sacrifice a goat and slit your wrists. Devil dick suckin, Satan sack lickin "i just wanna be heard" "will somebody love me" lonely faggott. If you dont like it DONT WATCH it. Nobody cares about you.

  • @theinboii You're calling Jack White? A HACK? HAH! Troll.

  • Anyone who loves Son House is okay in my book.

  • HEY!! For all you tools ragging on Jack White, have any of you seen or listened to his cover of Son House's Death Letter at the Blackpool Lights concert? Listen and/or watch and tell me he's a hack or a faker. Jack White is one of the most soulful and skilled blues guitarists left on earth. His tribute to Son House is genuine.

  • @fishman017 AGREED !!!!!

  • @fishman017 heard it... it's all shit. YOU CAN'T SHOW THAT YOU HAVE SOUL THROUGH MUSIC IF YOU HAVE NO TALENT!!!! I bet Jack White fans would go look at a showcase of Pablo Picasso paintings over Rembrandt any day. You don't know what talent and quality is. If you think he's NOT shit, why don't you go and check out his version of the Beatles' Mother Nature's Son? He totally rapes, murders and cannibalizes that song. But at least he thinks he's the total shit while he's doing it...

  • @tpstrat14 This isn't a painting, because that's what you seem to think. Listen to Jack play icky thump live at the Vh1 performance, or listen to his slide solos during Death Letter. Keep in mind, hes singing, has no backing besides an extremely straight forward drum part. Something else I noticed... All these people dissing Jack are cussing in all caps like they're trying to convince us of something.

  • @tpstrat14 If you dont like Jack that's up to you, but no one wants to hear you spew out your worthless opinions without backing it up with any fact what so ever. He has no talent? WHY? You couldn't dream of playing any instrument you could name better than him. So just do yourself a favor and shut the fuck up.

  • @tpstrat14 Because Picasso didn't have skill. Right. -.-

  • @fishman017

I can see that he appreciates good music, but that does not mean he is a bluesman. He worries too much about style, and he is not that talented. His music is OK and I would certainly listen to it on the radio compared to the rest of the crap, but that's not saying much.

  • @fishman017 fucking thank you for that! people only listen to radio jack and not the rest of his music and dont understand you have to listen to all their music before you can say shit like that.

  • so cheesey

  • @omggarybuseyRULES I have to assume that omggarybuseyRULES translates to douchebag.

  • perhaps Little Room was inspired by this song?

  • Love that song. My favorite is the first Son House song I heard--John the Revelator. Heard a re-do on Sons of Anarchy by Stigers and the Forest Rangers, that did it justice. Still nothing quite as emotive as the original.

  • It's good that some people actually understand true artistry ....they're usually the ones who rise to the top and give the rest of us something to enjoy.

  • whats the band jack white looks like the singer he talks about them in the movie

  • This is awesome

  • I hate when the top comment is a response to another comment that I can't find :(

  • People have opinions. Let 'em be. His opinion inspired him! Don't judge people for what they like. Jack White is Amazing Anyway!

  • P.S. I'm a girl.

  • @SOCKFAIRY1 so?

  • If Jack White is a Son House fan then I'm a Jack White fan.

  • @satansprick13 It's because of people like you that the world is so fucked up. Get lost, you snob. It isn't the color of the skin that decide if you're anything.

  • @satansprick13

So black people these days know the blues? I can definitely tell by what's in the media.

By the way, look up Seasick Steve

  • @satansprick13 Ha, ironic that you'd call him ignorant... :)

  • @satansprick13 Empathy will come to you as you get older and have more experience, you'll think back and be ashamed of writing stuff like this

  • @satansprick13 Wow, never before have I seen someone display such a lack of intelligence before in my life. Why, you can't even formulate a coherent sentence, can you? ;)

  • @satansprick13 you are... stupid

  • @satansprick13 No need to sign your comment.

  • @satansprick13 There's too much wrong with your content to even bother arguing with you, so I'm going to say two things: what the fuck are you doing with your full stops? And Meg White is not Jack's sister!

  • Its conflict. Thats what it is. The magic comes from conflict.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock" - Orson Welles, The Third Man

  • After listening to this, I finally got the clap.

  • I can't believe you stupid motherfuckers are arguing about Son House's timing.

    Get the fuck out.

  • This guy is the real deal...and my favorite in "IMGL".
