Jim was original. He was not riding on the back of blues interpretation like the stones, This was expression at its most poignant. A nobel prize for music.
@andreatutrani shit still, I'm pretty shure that he wouldn't sing at all... just hear his first scream in this song... but still I'm glad he was born :)
@JeffGR4 Seriously, it's not like there's no context that might indicate what they mean. He's talking about environmental exploitation and the images are pretty straightforward. Likewise the subscription to the resurrection line comes in the middle of a verse talking about outlaws, it's not a big leap to assume Jim's rejecting traditions and norms. Admittedly the scream of the butterfly is pretty out-there but it's just lazy to assume "acid lol" instead of thinking about the words themselves.
An UNUSUAL charisma is required to pull off something like this. Almost anyone else would be laughed at.
This band was a great marriage of three "Left Brain-ed" musicians (all quite accomplished) with a complete "Right brian-ed" wacked-out front man - which you need.
After he died, the other three spent the next forty years looking for gigs or talking about the dead guy. A cruel business.
@upbomb i bet when they are confronted with such kind of music at real young age.we are gonna have our revolution we want ..THE NEW ARTISTS OF THE new REBELLIOUS times ..... everything is psychedelicized ... :)
Gota love how Ray Manzarek opens up with the extended intro , and then Jim kicks it off. Another thing I love about live performances is that you get something more than the studio version. Like for example Jim throws in more Vocals, Screams, and other expressions into it. Its like as soon as he closes his eyes, the Music takes over his Mind :) .
And Of Course, gota love how he really gets into it in 09:10 . and mos def on 09:36 ( you can tell it in his face ) (y) .
Just found a time machine! Who's coming back to 1968 with me?

this is the best song on the album, i've also realized any live performance of the doors is way better than the studio version.

Ray Manzarek so made the Doors with Jim! Ray was so versitile that he carried the base and the organ both. Who needs a base player when ya got Ray.

1) "Cancel my subscription to the resurrection."
2) "I want to hear the scream of the butterfly."
3) "Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn..."
4) "Tied her with fences..."
WTF????? Jim, the acid must've written those lyrics for you.
