  • Sólstafir are not cool... but they invented coolness. Thus coolness is sólstafir.

  • wooww amo esta banda sobre todo por k convino a sigus ros kon con un buen metal

  • This song and band are beautiful, and the vocals push them over the edge into absolutely breathtaking territory. I haven't heard anything this powerful since Dirge For November by Opeth.

  • Ég slekk á deginuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum

    Ég slekk á deginuuuuuuuuUUUUUuum

    Og hjartað slær svo ört

    Og hjartað slær svo ört!!!!

  • Hails from Greece, Solstafir. Your music is just beautiful, keep up the good work ;)

  • 6 people didn't cum to this song...

  • @Teddenn who did? thats discusting...

  • @Schlifga girl

  • Orgazmic

  • The song is perfect. There's nothing to complain about.

  • @sicklysweet , Give me a song that sounds just like this if its so "generic."

His rustic vocals are always on key, even on the higher pitches towards the end.

The band creates an extremely original, loud as hell sound. There is NOTHING generic about this song.

So show me a fucking song that sounds like it, if it's so "generic" I want to hear it all.

  • I saw these guys last december, opening for Swallow the sun. And they were the WORST band ever opening !?!?!?! They were the absolute BEST band ever opening in my opinion...............but it was only after the concert that I came to that realization. Other bands doing things the same and better........I would love to hear of those bands, because I never heard of them and would like to hear more music that even comes close to what Solstafir does.

  • 'Iceland: Beyond Sigur Ros' (2011). A new Anglo-Icelandic Music Documentary! Enjoy for FREE! :)

  • Why all the complaints about the vocals? I think they're fucking perfect personally.

  • @sicklysweet go fuck yourself. what is the use of posting such a comment under a solstafir song ? cunt .

  • @krautstampflsepp I know, what a dick, right? SOLSTAFIR FTW!

  • @sicklysweet If you read the lyrics, you'd know it wasn't doom/drone whatever, and how he hell does that sound like a tantrum? You were a strange child if that's what you sounded like.

  • I saw this band support Swallow The Sun last month and I have to say they were the WORST support band I have ever stood through in my life. You could argue that I just don't get the music, but that doesn't make up for the fact that the drumming was consistently out of time and the vocals were just HORRIBLE. They played one note over and over for 10 minutes. I wanted to kill myself by the end of their 2nd song. Maybe that was the point? AVOID.

  • so fucking cold

  • SO FUCKING AWESOMEE!!!!

  • wow.... I never hear something like that, and i heard a lot of things..... it just let me sit there and watch the stars moving and become emotional.....

  • awesome show today, just pure awesomeness

  • kurwa jaki dół :D świetnie klepie, to jest to ! :D

  • great music

  • And I broke down. Amazing atmosphere. New video for which I thank you!

  • these vocals are extremle awesome

  • in woch place its black metal i saw them one live and once in backstage. talentless only,I am sorry... please, give the way to some more talented bands=)

  • Reminds me of "The Angelic Process". Both great bands!

  • im quite sure sol means sun and stafir means rune.

My Dad taught Addi to play the guitar and did the art for their first album, so i'm really proud of how great they have become!!

  • i'm quite sure sol is sun and stafir is a rune

  • @StingrayForLife

actually the name mean Crepuscular rays

and they are the rays of sunlight that appear to radiate from a single point in the sky :)

  • @suzi8mm You are right. Sól = sun. Stafir is a plural for the word stafur that can mean stick, cane, rod, written character or letter as in letter of the alphabet.

So StingrayForLife, with his interpretation, was on "on tracks" so to speak.

  • beautiful!

  • I'm so glad to have seen them live this year. One of the best concerts I've ever been at ( beside Alcest ) !

  • @krautstampflsepp where was it you saw them live?

  • @uloveme2nv it was at the summer breeze festival this year. unfortunately, they just played for about 40 minutes.

  • Sólstafir means sun - rods, i.e. when the sun shines through clouds in thick visuable rays.

  • @rottingheadofhorse I already got the answer but thank you for your will to help.

  • Does anyone know where you can download this? Its not on itunes and I can't find it anywhere else.

  • @powertpaddock I always find it when I try one of my local metal shops with online shopping. But...you must...never_use_iTunes. iTunes is a piece of rock for everything, even the iPod.

  • @powertpaddock I´m pretty sure you can download it on amazon. at least i bought the CD there and i think that you can download each album that they´ve got.

  • damn good.

  • One of the greatest songs ever. Can't get enough of it.

  • What does "Solstafir" mean? I couldn't find the definition anywhere on the net.. :/ Maybe for someone into northern mythology it's obvious but not for me, damn.

  • @Drakon222 Sólstafir means "radiating sun beams" (Encyclopaedia Metallum) or "crepuscular rays" (wikipedia)

  • @Sunday1ce Thank you. Damn, BTW - I wouldn't ask about it if I didn't check wikipedia but there was nothing there. Just the description of the band. :/

  • @Drakon222 Sólstafir means sun - rods, i.e. when the sun shines through clouds in thick visuable rays.

  • @rottingheadofhorse

    Crepuscular rays

  • fucking powerfull

  • BRENNUR I SAL MER!!!!!!! BREENNNNURRR

I love the passion of this song. It's like the universe is melting, and we each meet our spiritual selves...

  • meh

  • Let me see if i got this right.. "Í skugganum dvel ég, dvel ég nu" means "I lay in the shadows, in the shadows i lay now" ? or something? and i think "Brennur í sál mér, brennur" means my soul is burning, burning" ? can someone from Iceland translate for me if i got it wrong? I can atleast feel that there is alot of power and heart in the song, even though i dont get the lyrics.

  • @TheGoddamnGambit

The meaning of "Brennur í sál mér" is something like "Burns within my soul"

But who cares, stop reading the lyrics and enjoy the song

  • @ snaak!

    Your words in my heart!

  • Definition of amazing.

  • Genau so muss Musik sein!

  • Und live is des erst geil!

  • WTF People? There is NOTHING viking-metal about this!

Viking metal is a stupid term describing bands that run around with plastic swords and sing about their misconceptions of vikings!

  • @TheHeldriver

Right... it's Stoner Metal with influences of the bands former Black Metal time...

  • @TheHeldriver

That's the most stupid thing I ever heard.

First of, you're right about this not being viking metal.

Second, viking metal has nothing to do with misconceptions of vikings or whatever you want it to be. It's an ode to the old norse mythology.

  • very athmospheric

  • This is a very moving song.

  • it is certainly not my favourit band, but I must admit, it is something unique and special! :)

  • I've tried to like this band but the vocals just ruin the brilliant music for me.

  • You gotta know the northern viking metal genre, then you might understand it a little better..

  • Does all Northern Viking Metal have hardcore vocals? I'm pretty content with not hearing it.

  • I don't really listen to that kind of music(northern metal). But when I listen to Solstafir I accept where they come from in terms of musical genre and enjoy them with that in mind.

I'm a huge fan of post-rock so what I love the most is the silent and instrumental parts of their music, but all in all there is something about this band that makes them so unigue and great that I now call myself a fan of post-metal as well :D

  • Enslaved amon amarth korpiklaani and all the others are screaming. This is the least hardcore it gets for viking metal haha

  • @blodrekkr I'm talking about the hardcore genre, not just being hardcore. :|

  • @MelancholyPriest hardcore is a farce

  • @MelancholyPriest are you an idiot

  • @poopinmair How am I an idiot? God damn retard.

  • Beautiful ...

  • Great music :-) but I´m not so sure about the singing...

  • oh my friend....the singing is exactly right for Sólstafir... :)

  • :-)

My favorite Icelandic Metal bands are Níðhöggur and Fortid.

  • Comment removed

  • Solstafir have ever made an instrumental? if so, what's the name of the song? pagan greetz from germany

  • 78 days in the desert :):)

  • 2 songs are instrumental, Í Víking from the album Í Blóði og Anda, and Náttfari from the album Masterpiece of Bitterness

Well Í Víking there are famous phrases from the first Icelandic viking movie Hrafninn Flýgur (The Raven)

  • Throughout this whole song, I just kept saying "Oh my god..." out of sheer disbelief of how emotionally powerful it is. Everything about it is simply amazing. What an overwhelmingly beautiful language too! Album of the year? Fuck no! Album of the Odindamn decade!

  • I agree, and seeing them live is a very special experience, and this song is in my oppinion one of THE greatest ever written....and thank you for complimenting my language, I thought most people just thought icelandic was weird...hehe ;)

  • I´m from denmark , and partly understand the text ( with a little help from the lyrics ;-) ) - I think that helps ...

  • When I hear this song it just takes over. My heart and my soul connect to it instantly. I rarely was taken away by a song like that.

  • This song is such an emotional trip. One of the best songs from this band.

  • like it. good music

  • ragnarök 2010 will be great with sólstafir

i´m fucking looking forward to the festival

  • they're comming to ragnarök '10? okay, i'll be there :D

  • Me want tears too..... I hope they will play in Sweden.

  • Fantastic Song!!

  • as tough as the ancient Vikings in Icelandic Sagas. Excellent!

  • Genial creature....

  • i cried while they're played that song on party san 09

  • you were not the only one there crying at that moment, my friend.

  • well, i was crying as well. I lay on the floor and .. it was a moment of feeling good and free.

  • i completely missed it!!..i did a beer run and hoped i could catch the set...i heard the end of it and dropped everything i had in my arms in pure disspointment hahaha

  • @TomasuSA That is why you don't waste your time with beer when you're at a concert.

  • @orijimi oh totally man..we actually just misjudged the distance walk to the town centre..seen them since now anyway :)

  • @TomasuSA Well, that's good that you didn't have to be all that regretful. Personally, I haven't had a chance to see them, and I probably never will.

  • beautiful music

  • Im Icelandic and i luv this song so much. Everyone that loves this song should listen to the other Icelandic songs :) Icelandic music rocks !

  • speechless..

  • So Sweet! This song makes me remember when I was on holidays in Island!!!

  • Could any of you noble Icelanders be so kind as to translate this song for me? I really want to know what this song is about!

Islenska is a beautiful language, and I am going to be taking Icelandic classes at the University soon! I would like to expose myself to it as much as possible.

  • I am no Íslendingur, but I try to translate it:

Köld - Cold (feminine or plural)

It burns me in the soul, it burns

In the shadow I dwell, I dwell now

    In the dawn you appear

    I am extinguished at day

and the heart beats so fast

    ..that it hurts me

  • Not bad for a non Icelander, almost right.

But it's not "I am extinguished at day"

It's "I extinguish the day" (or even "I turn off the day")

  • sólstafir...north..cold...philosophic...island...people

  • I love this music so much !

  • I love Icelandic when it's pronounced like this, poetic and deep, not when I talk normally, but this song, I can't get enough of it, it's just deep in it self and something you only put on when you need to think ... with short lyrics in the most beautiful language known by mankind (my opinion), deep yet fragile instrumental chorus and the way it makes you think about the world.

  • This is art.

  • More like fart.

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I'll be looking out for these guys in the future.

  • Music that makes you really listen to it is hard to find these days.

But this song, this band, it's not something you put on when you're having a party, you put this on when you're alone (or some1 who has taste) and listen to every singel word and note!

  • true words

  • Actually, when they took this song on Eistnaflug (Icelandic metal/rock festival), everyone sang along if I remember correctly.

  • @snaak word!

  • <3

    Just great! :)
