In my opinion regarding Kyoko's absence: Please remember that the marketing had a very bait-and-switch nature to it. Kyoko does not fit the Traditional Magical Girl mold as well as the others could, and while she has a very defined personality, it's a personality in which, if we found it all out before the twists, it would seem very tacked-on and make her backstory less emotionally wrenching.
