Man Starbury had some serious talent. He was as athletic as D Rose but had a sweet jumper like Jerry West. He and KG were the late 90s Westbrook and Durant.
Disappointment? Kid grew up in some of the roughest streets in the U.S. of A, made his way to the NBA, is wrapping up the final year of a $20M contract, recently started an affordable apparel line, and will soon be playing for a championship contender.
Steph put up 20 points and 8 assists for the most of his career.. I dont see how he could have been disappointing ... although his five years in New York was.
During this time bobby cremlins was putting massive talent in the NBA...GT, and the acc as a whole, was better than most of the Big East schools at the time. GT is still good at putting people in the leauge...Chris Bosh, Anthony Marrow, Javaris Critterton, and Thad Young in the last 5 years alone.
Not to mention this was at the glory days of Homer Rice as AD for Tech who was well tied to the NYC region and pulled down a lot of top recruits from that area.
Plus GT always kept a NY PG, let's not forget about Kenny Anderson when he killed the kid from Duke that game, whoa! Even with Steph not livin up to his potential, his stats are amongst the best, sumthin like 19 and 7 for his career right? Nothin to sneeze at!
If only somebody could have put Andre Millers head on Stephs body, he would have been a perennial all-star/hall-of-famer. To this day, i still dont understand how Marbury didnt make it.
There was a time when Stephon Marbury was viewed as a young pure pointguard in the same light that Chris Paul is right now, looked at the same way, as a winner that can do whatever he wants to score whenever he wants but makes his teammates better and is a pure pg.
Marbury coulda been a top 5 pg of alltime, he could get off whenever, AND shoot that rock, AND d up, plus his size at 6'3 with an nba body at 19 years old and that athleticism (head at the rim?) and that handle?!?! Great passer...
I remember reading about a reporter asking Marbury about Georgia Tech during March Madness a few years ago. His response? Something to the affect of him not caring and, "I was there for eight months man", which is funny to me. But, Steph was sick in college though, good clips to good music.
That's True Metro, But While Marbury's Talents Are Notable And Immense He's Always Had A Reputation As A Selfish Player And One Who Doesn't Improve His Team. He's 11 Years In Now In The NBA And It's STill Debatable Has He Really Made A Substancial Impact. He Can Play, But Can A Team Win With Him?

i would probably put him equal to derrick rose based on college scouting. Hope rose is not a head case

Marbury could have been great. He had the talent. Too bad he's mentally challenged. He'll be remembered as another Kenny Anderson.
RegoLeo 3 years ago 2
he would be ten times better if he would have stayed in college
