Wow, "there wasn't a round chambered when he threw it". Are you mental? He picks it up, pulls the charging handle back and a round comes out. That round used to be.....in the chamber! Facepalm.
That's the way guns are always supposed to be. They don't work unless they're loaded.
These test need to be done/ shown and I cant think of any one more qualified the Larry Vickers. If you refuse to think out side of your fuckin safety box then youll never get the most out of your training fuckin risk assesments Gabe Suarez says it best "It you want to be 100% safe put down your firearm and go pick up golf
@STFUAntoinette Had I been doing the same test, I wouldn't have had any idea the rifle would have chambered a round, so I can't blame him I guess. If he ever was going to repeat such a test, he should make the first round a dummy. This has nothing to do with training.
Where most, if not all, his training was done under live firearms conditions. Or option number 2, we can all listen to Mr. keyboard commando over here with his extensive and albeit exhausting training background. If Larry said it was safe we can probably take his word on it.
Lets see Larry Vickers a lifetime of training including (but not limited to) 20 years in Army Spec-Ops, Special Forces, Delta and is a retired Master Sargent. His military schooling and awards are as follows, Operator Training Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, Special Forces Military Freefall Course Special Operations Target Interdiction Course (SF Sniper School), Airborne School,Infantry Advanced Individual Training, Jumpmaster School, Military Freefall Jumpmaster School.
@sk8tafrnk----- i didnt say it was safe or that i would ever do myself! I only stated that the rig didnt have a round in the chamber when he threw it!! I practice gun saftey just as much or more than the next one but its a friggin' UTube vid, i watch it and go on with life, not bitch and complain about whats happening in the vid!!
Vickers is doing this so you don't have to find out yourself. But I have seen an AR fall 30feet from a rifletower, hit concrete when it landed then having the unit armorer test fire it succesfully without doing anything to it after the fall. Those polymer/composite materials are stronger than wood.
Guys plz go back and watch the vid again, Larry plaintly states that what happened here was that when the weapon hit the ground buttstock first the force avtually brought the boltcarrier group back far enuff that it actually stripped (chambered) a round!!! So he did not throw a loaded weapon, it loaded itself from the force of it hitting the ground!!!
@InfidelArmz556 That doesn't make it any safer. The end result is still the same: a loaded, uncontrolled rifle tumbling down a hill.
It would have been just as easy to use a rifle with an empty magazine, or eat least with snap caps or dummy rounds, and then change the magazine to one with live rounds before firing. It wouldn't affect the demonstration at all, and it would have been a hell of a lot safer.
@TacticalTerror everyone has an opinion, and everyone is a safety nazi. its a video, stop being all self righteous and acting like he just fucked your mom. its annoying and un necessary.
@InfidelArmz556 A weapon with a round in the chamber is different than a weapon being loaded. It was LOADED. The fact the bolt was able to throw a live round in the chamber means you're that much closer to a catastrophe you can't take back.
People who are as careless with life as you tend to believe in Heaven. I believe in life because no matter how much you want there to be something else, life is the only thing any of us know we have.
AR15s have free-floating firing pins (as do many other firearms). That mechanical safety is not going to do jackshit if the firing pin moves back and forth against the primer with enough force to ignite it. Slam fires, ever heard of 'em? Plenty of dumbfucks have shot themselves using loaded rifles as walking sticks and whatnot. If you're going to be doing an extremely violent action with a gun with FFFPs (throwing it off a hill counts) - don't do it loaded. Don't assume the safety will stop it.
Im happy that Larry is doing stuff like this, because everyone who knows anything about Larry Vickers knows that he knows his shit and chances are is Larry says its cool, its cool.
If you see how it landed on its buttstock, it is possible for it to have chambered a round when it hit the ground. He still could have used snap caps lol
did u actually see the target...no u didnt so how do you know those were loaded rounds

TT: I recommend growing a dick. Larry has forgotten more about firearms in twenty minutes than you will ever know in your life.

Thats why it has to be in mechanical safe when youre not shooting it.
breakurselff 6 months ago 22
@breakurselff I think it would be more accurate to say that it should be on safe when you're not holding it.
If you are holding it in a tactical ready position adhearance to safety rule #3 should suffice.
