Pfeister has the weirdest career arc. He started out being cinematographia to Erotic Thrillers now he is working with Nolan shows that the best work comes from working in the dark areas of cinema look at Sam Raimi and Kubrick for example
@bossman103 Everyone, literally, everyone, with the exception of birthed athletes, has to go through a little shit and youth to get through to the good stuff. I heard Nolan was writing Inception since college. That's a long time to treat a script lol.
I am so glad Nolan/Pfister had the clout to say NO TO 3D. I want to see the all of the colors and contrasts film is able to produce at the highest quality and 3D is a desaturated mess for the eye. 3D is a gimic and I hope it's restricted to digital toy movies like Avatar and Clash of the Titans. Imagine studios telling Kubrick to convert Barry Lyndon to 3D LOL.
@Tothe2012 I think you're wrong to assume Kubrick would put his nose up at digital. Digital cameras fare better in low-light situations. Kubrick would make an accident in his pants if he could see what f/0.7 could do on these cameras.
@MurmaiderII Really? Better than Roger Deakins, Vilmos Zsigmond, Freddie Young, Gordon Willis, and Michael Chapman? There's a very, very long list of amazing cinematographers and I'm sure Pfister himself would agree he's barely cracked it yet. Give him some time.
@MurmaiderII Fair enough... one reason I think Pfister is above the current pack is that he and Nolan, to my knowledge, do not do any digital intermediate work whatsoever. They process their footage the old-fashioned way and try to get as much of the look in-camera as possible. I WISH some of this line of thinking would come to digital cinema with it's b.s. raw process that's then pushed around endlessly to the point of ridiculousness in post.
@MurmaiderII Roger Deakins is far more skilled and experienced than Pfister IMHO, but Pfister is a good one, greatest? no way. If anyone Conrad Hall is one of the greatest
@beastwarsman1 dark knight was great... probably the best SUPERHERO MOVIE i've ever seen ... but i still think it's overrated ... check out the rest of nolans work. "memento" in particular, if you havent ... then you see what i think is one of the all time great movies ... :P cheers.

Whats the name of the model film camera that was used for Inception? Kinda curious. Also interested in how Lee smith did the editing.

@Tothe2012 Haha that would be impossible since Barry Lyndon's mostly natural light.
With 3D, I don't hate it, but directors shouldn't be forced to use nor should there be any post-conversion.

@Tothe2012 Haha how awkward would the room be after they tell Kubrick that, May the master rest in peace.
