Hey chuck great vid. I tried my first open root pass and what a experience I had it sticking I had some good spots and some bad. Keep up the vids. And for Shitsucker4l post a vid of your work talk is cheap let your work do the talking.

hey, you guys are doing a good job; however, when you weld your root passes please show the finish product on the back side on the root pass. that is actually how you tell if you are penetrating correctly. also you are making slight mistakes while welding them. all the flames should be shooting through the backside of the plate, none should come back towards you. basically you are not keeping your rod deep enough into the landing. good job though guys.

Ive been looking for a good video series to teach my daughter welding for a while as I can weld but cant teach. And you guys are doing a awesome job Ive subscribed Liked and Favorited your videos thanks for helping me put what I know into a teachable format and you guys do real nice clean work also.I just dont have the patients to show what i know and you guys should run a class for sure if you were in my area Id love to send you some students you have the teaching part down as well as the work.

i need some advice i have to do a open root weld. i have to do FCAW 3g on a 45 degree bevel on .5" steel plate and i just keep burning strait through and its pissing me off. i have to pass this its a certification weld and if i cant pass i get fired.....any tips?

Good work as usual boys. If I may make a suggestion, when recording welding you will get much better results with a tripod and manual focus...

lol, yes, I know. Thats what I usually do, but I experimented with it at my shop and it didnt work so well. Open root stick is no doubt the hardest thing Ive ever had to film, and because we both just had the one joint, making a "montage" out of all the good clips wasnt really possible...

Nice work Chuck, that is really some nice welding. How many amps did you run to do that root? The back looks fantastic.

Thanks man!! Its wes's machine so he can probably answer better than I can, but it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 amps
