  • Isn't the guy the mounty captures, the guy in the previous advert who ate ant drank to much?!?

  • at 1:52 - Buster Keaton lookin' SHARP!

  • How sad to see the great Buster Keaton's career have to resort to such things for income.

  • @akaRubyHeart - But it paid the bills, kept his name (and face) in front of people (like me) who never saw him at his best in the movies, and made people go back to see those movies and make us remember him as the great comedian he was.

  • @WSenator1 Besides, Buster doing Alka-Seltzer is more dignified than say...Hulk Hogan doing ads for Rent-A-Center. Now that's just pathetic.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 - Agreed. Take care!

  • I thought Buster Keaton didn't talk.

  • @UglySean - only in silent films!

  • @UglySean Actually Buster had a lovely speaking voice and was looking forward to Hollywood's transition to talkies. Unfortunately he had signed on to MGM at that point, and they had other plans.

  • @reichmarshall MGM couldn't do anything right for Buster, where he often worked alone, they needed 8 writers to spend 2 months writing a script for him just for it to be no good.

  • Speedy sounds like Jay North as Dennis Mitchell!

  • poor keaton is older

  • The guy who made the new commercials probably watched this. He said he had to watch the old commercials on YouTube to make the new ones.

  • @SirCamzALot3 - Yes. There was no Jimmy Neutron in 1957. Jimmy Neutron was never heard of until 2001.

  • did jimmy neutron not exist back then?

  • Buster soo cute at any age. Love him ♥

  • he didnt dodge the iceberg!

  • WHO DID THE VOICE ORIGINALLY (HERE) - SOUNDS LIKE A REAL BOY!

  • so what's in that Alka Seltzer?

  • 0:47 Is the reason why the Titanic was doomed. lol

  • I seem to remember a "Speedy" spot where Speedy has a robot, and at the end of the ad Speedy gets the robot to talk and all he says is "Irish people." The ad may be from the very early '60s, shortly after these ads were filmed. I only saw it a couple of times and I was very young at the time, so my memory may be a bit hazy. Does anyone else remember it?

  • That little talkig tablet could make a guy on Acid flip out.

  • I remember both Speedy AlkaSeltzer and Buster Keaton commercials from this time period, though not in the same commerical. Precious!

  • you know what they say "alka seltzer is just a swallow away"

  • Really neat stuff

  • These spots were seen during late 1957 and early 1958 [the beginning of the third commercial was also seen on a TV screen at the start of a late '58 "One-A-Day" ad, while "Mrs. Average Housewife" is gabbing on the phone, looking AWAY from the set!].

  • Buster Keaton was one of the best of the old time comedic actors. I never saw these commercials before but I am thrilled to see them here.

  • He talks!

  • If I wasn't feeling well, I couldn't handle hallucinating that squeaky voiced little tablet.

Doesn't Speedy Alka boy know that by promoting Alka Seltzer, he is calling for the drowning, dissolving and ingestion of his alka seltzer tablet friends.

  • This is possibly the greatest comment I've ever seen on Youtube.

  • I'm glad you liked my comment! I assume you aren't being sarcastic. I have loads of fun making comments on You Tube, and it's responses like yours that make me feel it's all worth it.

  • Not at all! lol I actually posted this video to my Tumblr (23skidoo) and had your comment as the description.

  • I don't understand where you did this-forgot what link I clicked on to get to some site of yours (I think). I'm interested to see my comment enshrined on your Tumblr

I live in Bloomington, IN-not too far from Cleveland.

  • oh Buster he's cute.

  • the little kid is cute

  • Doesn't Speedy's voice remind one of Jay North (Dennis The Menace)?

  • It almost sounds like it.

  • @sclm046 yeath

  • @sclm046 Reminds me of Debi Derryberry (Jimmy Neutron).

  • hi gary. that type of animation is called " replacement animation". it was a type also used in the george pal puppetoon films. also, used in a film called "the beast of hollow mountain" ray harryhausen used this technique when he worked for geoge pal, in th late 40s,early 50s. he did the "mother goose stories" with this replacement technique.

  • OK "Ship Captain" and "Mountie" were ones my father did. Dick Beals was the voice. Speedy was designed by Chuck Tennant. Lynn Hauldren of Empire Carpet fame wrote the jingle. Marian Crutcher wrote the campaign line. There were heads of Speedy made for every expression and swapped every 2 frames, shot in "Stop-Motion" as it was called. The big-wigs at the agencies thought this "TV" thing was small stuff so they let my dad do this (HAHAHA). He was 29 at the time of this.

  • hooray for the talented voices of dick beals, june foray, mel blanc, etc. does your dad remember david allen? did he know jim danforth? how about phil tippet?

  • My father did some of these commercials and told me some great stories about this. Very cool to see his work. Now I have to find out about the Dick Beals and Dave Allen stuff.

  • this is so cute!!!!! ^_^

    i love this video!!!!

  • I always remembered that song-and the comercials with Speedy advising different people on how to feel better."Relief Is just a swallow away!"

  • It's what some folks call a "sandwich". Usually made with 2 pieces of bread and a filling of some sort. Hope this clears up the mystery for you.

  • and, for animation freaks, the late david allen, did the stop-motion effects.

  • The statues were made by the production studio, Swift-Chaplin, in Hollywood. Booth Luck, the agency producer, found the film studio to make the first spot. The "Mailman" commercial is missing but my dad has it and will give to me to post it.

  • het garyoh, david allen also did a great volkswagon commercial with a nod to the classic king kong. but, somehow, the executives felt it lampooned wall streeters a bit much. and, so it had been pulled. fay wray's daughter has a cameo roll in it though. if you'd like to see more of his animation, check out a film titled doctor mordrid and puppet master 1 thru 6

  • My grandma used the empty containers as a level

  • lol, "Head-achey upset feeling" let's hope it's not a brain tumour.

  • Wow! I never saw him old! Nor SPEAK! Nor be in a "talkie". Man what a way to end... Too bad he signed...

  • down down down the stomach through round round round the system through....... REMEMBR KIDS: RELIEF IS JUST ONE SWALLOW AWAY!!!!! :-D

  • Speedy Alka-Seltzer was voiced by Richard (Dick) Beals. He is also known for voicing Davey in the Davey and Goliath series. His voice has never changed.

  • I love alka seltzer!! I like to watch the water get mad!

  • SWALLOW FTW!!! LMAO

  • LOL! Buster was so cute :).

  • Buster's both Mountie and Criminal in the last one. :)

  • Ah, the good days when ads were simpler and creepier.

  • lol when he's eating the baguette =D Lol He's so funny..loved it when he said 'Well..' before drinking it x

  • i should show this commercial to my wife and hope she gets it, "RELIEF IS JUST A SWALLOW AWAY"

  • VVONDERFUL BUSTER KEATON

  • that little..thing, is really freaky

  • What is WRONG with Speedy's legs? I'm worried about him.

  • hahahahahahaha

  • @dttype - Maybe he's taken too much AlkaSeltzer?

  • @dttype - too much alka-seltzer!

  • @dttype I know I worried about him too! LOL!

  • @dttype He put his feet in the swimming pool to test out the water, and they sort of dissolved a little.

  • just a swallow away

  • HE HE HE....ALRIGHT

  • Thanks for posting;have you ever seen a Buster Keaton commercial involving a fork lift, or Buster rising off the ground, perhaps including an elephant?

  • only in america

  • Recuerdo los anuncios de Alka Seltzer en la television en Cuba
