You've leaped from the stupidity of belief that Joseph of Arimathea planted a tree in Britain to the equal stupidity of belief that there was no Jesus. Both are absurd. I'd like to see you debate a scholar of Jesus such as Bart Ehrman, John Domminic Crossan, Marcus Borg, or some other sane individual concerning whether he existed or not.
@Bigwave2003 Iesous of the Gospels is a totally fictional character and a literary tool. The Romans used the personage of the Jesus character to mock the Jews own literature by using typology to make Titus Flavius the promised Messiah in a scripture format. There were lots of Messiahs over the years that took the Mantle to oppose the Roman occupation and maybe one or two were named Yeshua.
evidence that the bible is made up is overwhelming. even the "people" who wrote the damn thing contradict each other at every turn. as freke and gandy repeatedly point out, the only reason christians think jesus is historical and mithra, dionysus, and osiris is myth, is because they were raised to believe THEIR story is "literal".
christianity is a mythology, propagated like everything else governments do to control it's people.
I don't have any problem with Jesus having been real - I think the guy was a fantastic healer! The `story' of Jesus should just make us all aware that there is more to this so-called `reality' than meets the eye, and that which we think are impossible are merely illusions.
Tim Freke is full of shit. Athiest Richard Carrier wrote the Jesus Mysteries is rubbish. There are almost NO skeptical sholars who agree with Freke and Gandy. And to top that off, they are not even professionals. They have NO high academic credentials in this field.
I don't know about that The SecretOfTheRose. Atheist Richard Carrier says the "Jesus Mysteries" is rubbish. And I recently got an Email from agnostic NT scholar James Tabor, PhD who informs me that he only knows of "one" PhD level scholar who supports the Jesus myth theory and his work (Robert M. Price) is considered sub-standard. That fact is that the evidence is in favor of a historical Jesus that did exist.
"That fact is that the evidence is in favor of a historical Jesus that did exist. "
Only seems that way if you're ignorant of the evidence. I've created almost 30 videos here on YT about my personal views on the Jesus Myth theory (Earl Doherty version). They might surprise you. And why must so many people find solice in numbers? Remember, 99.999% USED to believe the earth was flat, too.
@TruthSurge The evidence shows that Iesous of the Gospels was created by the Flavian Caesar's after 72ad when they produced the at least 4 texts and the Josephus books together. Iesous or as we call him Jesus of the NT is a totally fictional character based on types of both Moses and Titus Flavius. The evidence that Joseph Atwill has gathered is remarkable.
@cameradanblack It's not remarkable. It is actually pretty tenuous and doesn't address some of the facts. But if all you have read is Atwill's book, I can understand how it would make an impact.
@selinakyle Where is the evidence for what? That Richard Carrier said Tim Freke's book Jesus Mysteries is rubbish? That there is only one PhD level scholar who supports the Jesus myth theory? Well it is about two now as Richard Carrier finally obtained his PhD but Carrier also praises Tabor on his blog and Tabor insists the Jesus myth theory is wrong. So what evidence?
@boblackey1 From what I remember from reading the book, it debunks the idea of Jesus as an historical figure. Where is the proof that there was a real dude named Jesus and that it was not just a myth? All you have to do is look at history and see there is nothing to support it. The argument from authority doesn't quite cut it.
@selinakyle "All you have to do is look at history and see there is nothing to support it" is contrary to the evidence according to the skeptical scholars I've read such as Marcus Borg, PhD, Bart Ehrman, PhD, James Tabor, PhD. etc. They insist after critically reading everything from 1st, 2nd century which is extant or for example The Gospel to the Hebrews which is lost but is quoted by church fathers it is histoircal certainity Jesus existed.
@selinakyle Scholars and traditional historians are certain Jesus was born between 4 and 7 BCE in the fall of the year (not Dec 25th), was Jewish, was a preacher, had a small following, actually said a few of the quotes in the gospels, had a brother named James who was part of the original Jesus cult in Jerusalem and was crucified by Pontius Pilate about 30 CE. Freke can reject all that but he stands almost alone in academic circles.
@boblackey1 Joseph Atwill has written the death knell book for christianity IMO. "Caesar's Messiah" show good evidence that christianity was created by the Romans to co-opt the Messiah from the Jews and make a mockery of their religion by making Titus through typology the Messiah, God, and Savior. I can't find anything wrong with his theory and I'm pretty up to date on my anthropology of the Jewish religion and it's offshoots.

Thanks, Tim. The world -- especially the Christian world -- needs to hear much more of what you have to say about the Jesus myth and the transforming reality of Gnosis.

I agree that Jesus never existed but far too much emphasis is placed on the pagan parallels.

so are you saying that in order to be a spiritually aware being, you have to have high academic credentials?
