Put your god damn memorial at the cemetery not on public property. Roadside memorials are litter and it's against the separation of church and state to put this crap on public owned roadways.
So many people defending dangerous driving. Americans would rather fight for their right to drive anyway they see fit as long as it does not inconvenience their selfish lifestyles, rather than step back and consume the big picture long enough to correct their bad habits voluntarily.
Cell phones are a grossly abused luxury. If long term abuse continues, laws will ensue. Then sheeple will blame it on BIG BROTHER for creating the laws against driving/cell phone use. Wake up addicts!
This is a satirical look at a serious problem. Roadside memorials are a distraction. Cemeteries are where people should mourn. Perhaps a 30 day limit...then they need to be gone. Right-of-way laws prohibiting such memorials are ignored because they are a "sensitive" issue. I feel for those who are represented on these markers, but I don't want to be preached to NOR have them in my face, a distraction to safe driving!
Roadside memorials have no place there. They don't have a right; cemetaries provide this service . One by one, they are disappearing from throught my community. Sanitation doesn't want to remove them, lest they hurt someones feeling. On the other hand, I attempt to understand the person who places the memorial. I remain steadfast on 30 days, then let the family adopt a mile by the location and have it named for their loved one!
"Roadside memorials have no place there. They don't have a right; cemetaries provide this service "
I'm not sure I understand you.
Are you saying that there is a law against erecting these temporary memorials?
Your comment about the cemetery providing "this service" really isn't compelling. That fact isn't a reasoned legal opinion about what it is you're claiming about rights.
Some states actually have little memorial markers that can be placed to honor a person killed on right of ways. That seems like a nice gesture. It's flat and does not detract from the area/interfere with line of sight traffic. But bottom line, roadside memorials just don't belong there. Get active, do something positive for the loved one you lost. But whining about it because YOUR RIGHTS have been violated is nonsense
@larkydozer Such memorials, beyond a reasonable amount of time (I still say 30 days) should move on with their grief. It may seem insensitive; however, if there is a law, it needs to be obeyed. Another point of view is the deceased familys rights. THEY HAVE NONE
@larkydozer But she took her life in hand & put drivers at risk when she went to sit by the memorial to grieve/add trinkets, etc. I am sorry anybody has to lose a loved one, but the person who dies on a road, or at an intersection is NOT there. They are wherever your spiritual beliefs take you. And for that, services are held in churches, funeral homes, etc., and bodies disposed of. To put these tacky looking, often unattended ILLEGAL things up needs to stop.
It's not a problem here because people are too distracted by their own latte sipping, cell phone texting and self adoration in the rear view mirror behavior to notice anything outside of their car.
@larkydozer I am passionate AGAINST these memorials. In Alabama, the law clearly states that NOTHING is legal placed in right of waysbe that county, city or state property. Whether a sign for a home for sale, a small business or roadside memorial. Politicians side-step the memorial issue, not wanting to hurt potential voters. Our governor has spoken and the memorials are being taken down routinely with roadside maintenance. In Montgomery, AL, one erected by a mother, who was grieving
It may be the law that abortion is a fun, interesting or moral action to participate in but simply saying it's legal doesn't make it any of those things.
lol! This is awesome!!!! Thanks so much for posting! I remove these things! So I know exactly what it's talking about, going into the styles and designs of memorials to correspond with the person who got killed. It's hilarious! Rock on!
Is this video supposed to be satire? I find it very insensitive - almost funny. Roadside memorials are usually put up by the family that is mourning the loss of a loved one. A way to deal with pain. This video seems to create a "oops! My bad - lets throw some money at it and make myself feel better" kind of fix it.
Right out of the Chicago Bike Federation Book of Downtown Logic, funny. Really surprised they didn't put it on pay-per-view. Check out some of the other funny stuff: Never drive over 35mph, never use a cell phone ... Classic. How come they don't rant about mandatory helmets for all bike riders.
(did anyone else catch the jogger in the video, he was jaywalking or jayrunning)
It said 35 mph-period. Probably they're on the phone reporting your dangerous bike riding, probably while your shouting vulgarities like the ones you so nicely used in your reply.
As for helmets, do a quick count at the Bike the Drive, clearly 1/10 don't wear helmets. Never mind what they have written down & pretend to promote. Check out their policy on helmets in the forest preserves. CBF fought mandatory helmets for everyone, they forced it so anyone 15 & under yrs old are the only ones.

Dear Coffeemaniac. Thank you for your post. Would you mind clarifying? We are considering non-crusifix crosses for the Islam population, and would not want to accidentally offend. Drive safely.
That's the coolest thing I've ever seen. Ever. I just got rid of my cellphone. And I gave my car to a homeless guy. I'm not taking ANY chances. From now on, I'm only riding a bike. A bike made of pillows.

All good points beside the one about memorials being a distraction.
Clouds, birds, billboards, other cars, motorcycles, bicyclists, buildings, windows, light reflections.
These can all be claimed as "distractions".
I like the idea of a 30 limit though. It's respectful.

Why the hell would you need to drive over 35 miles an hour downtown? And every time I've almost been hit, it was some jagoff yapping on his phone.
The CBF does have a stance on Bike Helmets, dumbass. It's why they exist. They require them at all their events.

Ha. A better rip on the way we commercialize & anesthetize ourselves to everything we do than on unsafe driving. Good rip, though.
