Jeremy Brett was the quintessential Holmes, and my favourite actor because of his portrayal. I love the way he could communicate so many feelings just by the slightest nuance of expression or gesture. What a master of his craft.

It was from the story 'The Six Napoleons', it is reported that his tears were real. Shortly after this he needed to 'rest' to recover from his wife's death.

His eyes are deeply expressive, I love that scene even though it has sadness to it.
