Houdini is really amazing but not recomended for full software ´cause is not a full software like the others, so... like i told u b4, send me pm if u need help or tips and tell me your questions

any, ANY software like Maya or whatever CAN make those effects and modelling anything fast or even faster

Houdini is AMAZING, that´s a fact but any popular software can make that as well

are you saying that autodek charged for Si updates after they aquired XSI?

......if so thats a cheaky move but not unheard of....if i remember rightly adobe did it after aquiring both macromedia and cooledit.....i cant speak for other autodesk aquired products caus i dont remembre if it happened with allias and maya.

Can you import zbrush files into houdini to create animations? Does houdini have good textures too?

textures are made externally of Houdini most 3d apps have nothing to do with your textures. If you are asking about the toolset for dealing with textures, well houdini are right up there but i still prefer mayas personally ..maybe out of habit.

you can export an obj file and within reason most 3d apps will read it

Free as in 8000 dollarrrrrrrs. However they have the apprentice HD version for $99. You have to be starving to qualify though, so I guess most copies are currently dropped over Darfur in aid packages .

Apprentice is just like the full version but renders with a watermark and you cant export anything from it. You should definitely give it a try.

@AndzBrazil you can export the geometry actually. (right click on node and click "save geometry")

timeshifterb: The animation softwares are going to be expensive! They are professional programs used by developer companies and by people in the film/media/movie industry like pixar. I agree with you, they are too high, but the makers of the program probably don't expect average joes to pick it up and work from it unless they work for a company

Houdini is next in line for Aqusition by Autodesk, i hope i'm wrong. this has to stop. Maya got Aowned by AutoDesk and now Softimage Xsi? wtf
