more of it in America, and the rest of europe.i felt a humle anger in me as regards the long allowed yellow journalism that Africans suffer. i think this is a good job. let them use their white faces to interpret poverty, sicknesses, and lack in their bill boards not african faces
My favourite author, never read anything as well-written in all my life. A clear wonder this young woman is! Awaiting her new books impatiently. Has she published more than Half of A Yellow Sun and Purple Hibiscus?
@chilekasoleil I have read Purple Hibiscus (My first Adichie novel) and AWESOME does not even describe it! She's really good. Like really REALLY good. I'm a fan :) Now Im reading Half A Yellow Sun :))

I read Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" in Africa for my high school literature. It was and is still the most imporrtant piece of liteture study in my entire life. When I read Adichie's "Half of the A Yellow Sun", It was as if I was back in high school once again reading Chinua's classic. I am proud of you Adichie. Anyone interested in African literuture should read Adichie's work.
The black race has suffered too long so much for us to still be slaves to this ignorant way of thinking. PLEASE BLACK PEOPLE, EMANCIPATE YOURSELVES FROM THAT MENTAL SLAVERY.WE THE THE SAME PEOPLE SEPARATED BY TIME AND DISTANCE AND AS A RESULT HAVE FASHIONED OUT DIFFERENT WAYS OF LIFE.
There were a host of writers and lecturers mostly from the University of Nigeria. Ali Mazrui also spoke prior to Chimamanda on that day. I'll post his speech soon. You may watch the speeches by Prof. Chinua Achebe and Prof Wole Soyinka under my account.
I changed my username to better represent myself on the web and to disassociate from the black american group since I am an intelligent AFRICAN woman.
I thank her for giving me the opportunity to be proud of an intelligent, graceful, talented young african woman.
The stereotypes of the blacks descended from slavery are disappointingly real. The heritage and history of blacks in the americas is demonic and scares whites away from making changes that are needed to control this problem.
As a black american we have the right to bear arms that right makes all the others possible, government murder of africans who do not have the rights that we have here means that they have no rights, thank god i was born in AMERICA, PEACE!
So Black Americans aren't intelligent? Why do Africans feel the need, to put us black Americans down, as if our mistakes aren't forgivable and yours are? When Africans sold my ancestors to Europeans, you folks not only sold men, women, and children, you also sold your HUMANITY. We Americans have for the pass 400+ years, been getting that HUMANITY back, you Africans sold for crumbs&drink. You shouldn't have been hiding behind our name anyway, you're African...remember.Hope you aren't in the USA...
Frankly I think us Africans get put down by you guys more. Also, I'm so sick of that tired argument about Africans seliing African Americans. Slavery has been a common practice the world over. Slavery was a common practice in Africa. The only difference is that your people happened to be sold to Europeans. I am African but I was born in this country, it is my country just as much as yours. How have we been hiding behind your name? My humanity was never sold, thank you very much.
Hahahaha....It's this sort of absurdity that rubbishes the efforts of many brilliant African Americans whom truly understand the intricacies of the slave trade. Stop being FOOLISH and educate yourself. U don't like Africans, good. We don't like your type too, and we have no patience for your regressive ideas.
You don't like us black Americans...fine. I just hope you're not in our country, because that would an oxymoron wouldn't you say. Example: If I didn't like Persians, why would I immigrate to their country Iran, same applies to this.
not all african americans, are like that, some of us embrace the culture, there are some of us, that need the history of our ancestors, share with me more on the african cultures, & our history, am teachable
Thank you sir. We both have a lot to learn from each other, but it all starts with respect . Many of the Africans that championed the independence movements in some African nations, were tutored and influenced by the works of W.B Dubois and other great African Americans.
I thank her for giving me the opportunity to be proud of an intelligent, graceful, talented young african woman.

I feel so elated when I saw this piece, I thank God for Chimamanda. I see a hope for the Igbo culture and people. We must all learn from this - Be proud of what you are.
I must tell you Chimamanda that apart from the fact that your thesis or speech is perfectly unique and broad,it will equally educate and may help to change the views and ideologies of the Western World especially those in the country side who only depend on what they watch on tv`s and local daily.
This video is so inspirational to me in a way that is simply ineffable. I just know I needed it and the beats of my heart after listening to her confirmed this. Thank you Ngozi!
"(Ali)Mazrui has written expansively in the past 46 years, valorising every conceivable Islamist cause or project in Hausa-Fulani north Nigeria as well as other parts of West Africa, the rest of Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere in the world. As a result, Mazrui has never condemned the Igbo genocide unambiguously nor its Hausa-Fulani/north perpetrators,..." ---- Prof. Herbert Ekwe-Ekwe. Nigeriaworld. Monday, September 24, 2007
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie~You're such an inspiration to Africa and Africans.I read your book "Half Of A Yellow Sun"what and insightful, commendable writing skills you got.Keep your head up,and in all that you do always remember that you're a role model several are looking up to.Bless you!
Many have wondered how suiting it was to invite Ali Mazrui, a renown scholar, to this memorable conference. His erroneous criticism of Okigbo's sacrifice for the very existence of his people is unjustified when juxtaposed with the facts. Mazrui is a writer who speaks of Africa mainly from the Islamic perspective. (from 6th century). His background and ancestry should raise no-one's eyebrow on this assertion.
Wow, i really admire her. I am so glad syou posted this video. I did not understand chinua achebe's book when i was 12 so i think she is extremely bright nigerian woman if she can read it at 8!!!! I really think that she is an inspiration.
Chimamanda shows it all; beauty, intelligence, confidence, passion and talent. She is an epitome of our African dream.
