  • @24dark

    It's called a Theremin

  • @24dark its a theromin. first in vented by robert moog who created moog synthesizers.

  • @maledictorchid Close. Moog does make a Theremin kit, but the Theremin was invented by Leon Theremin (thus the name) in 1919. Not trying to be a douche. Just wanna give the props to the right folks. OK, carry on:)

  • @Luxtifer Nin doesn't tour anymore :(

  • this is the best live version of "just like you imagined" that I can find on youtube

  • too bad its forever associated with that war enthusiasm brainwashing movie.

  • Where is the beautiful and bizarre piano part from the studio version? Oh, maybe they can't play it live...

  • Their only good song is"every day is exactly the same" all the other stuff is junk, they are not a rock band cause

They can't play guitar, all it is is pretty much pianos,so it's kida like old classical

  • @rails4ever trolling much?

  • Nine Inch Nails playing this song when Chuck Norris go to sleep...

  • one of my all time instrumental favourites

  • No piano and very low guitar volume, doesn't do the song justice :/

  • SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Really great, but lacks piano:/

  • CHarlie clouser is the best ltheremin player ever He fucking rocks

  • I'm glad that their isn't any lyrics. This puts more concentration and heart into the instrumental.

  • aaah i fucking miss this line up !!! simply the best !!!!

  • this is the kinda music u listen to when ur about to die fighting a 100 ppl by yourself but u die after killing all of em

  • 10 people deserve kidney stones

  • for the love of god is it epic

  • T. E. R. "endless midnight" and "white soul crying at the sunset"

  • "Like" is an understatement.

  • 2:44 is the best part

  • I like this song, but like many songs I don't like it live.

  • Thumbs up to those who after hearing this song, want to fight someone 10X your size and then have sex all fucking night long...

  • I HAVE to see these guys live before i die.

  • @Fleshy91 Yes you do, it took until the release of "With Teeth" for me to finally see them, and dear God, they put on a show that will blast you right off this planet, I've seen them 3 times since. The absolute BEST shows I have ever seen in my life

  • mohawk and sideburns, respect

  • Mannn.... I can't believe I neglected the chance to see them live...

  • I will place claymores on their crotch area. >:D

  • i need 10 claymore mines for 10 peoples front porches

  • WTF!! there are 10 living people who disliked this song, you don't deserve to live !!

  • Timeless...he is one of a kind. he set his own path, the man had a vision and fu-filled it beautifully

  • singetheband trent is the man in the middle it looks that this live is a little old he looks a little different but his the one in the middle with a guitar 2:22 he's the one screaming

  • one of the greatest instrumentals ever created by a human being

  • This is chilling, amazing, epic and energizing at the same time. Definitely in my fav songs top 50 :P

  • Why are the guitars and the bass so LOW?! =(

TRENT, GIVE ME SOME HEAVY INDUSTRIAL CHORDS!!!!!

  • is trent playing anything in this video?

  • @SingeTheBand

    he's playing bass

  • which dvd is this from? the one they put out in th 90's?

  • oh he is not playing a theremin? oh lawdy

  • THIS IS SPARTA...

  • without any doubt the best NIN live band lineup ever. this live band was perfect and unreachable for all the later lineups.

  • @doublebasskoenig their drummer was amazing dude!

  • epic as hell

  • only if those annoying cheering would stop when the song starts

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. But something I've been wondering -- anyone feel like the guitar and synths sound a little quiet on the live version? Compared to the album and the rehearsal footage, it's harder to hear them on this version.

  • Awesooooooooooooooome ! love NIN

  • 1:23 Theremin! :D

  • @faktualerror

That was a really awesome solo, but it didn't seem like his right hand was moving at all! Was it pre-recorded?

  • @FoShizzle713 i could remeber reading in an intervieuw that trent doesn't want people lipsticking ore pretending to play guitar. some things are pre-recorded cause it couldn't be done other wise but he rather have not. So i don't think so ..

  • best NIN song ever in my opinion

  • This song is the greatest instrumental piece ever written- NIN rocks!

  • @Lacisumify

i still think a warm place or la mer is, but your opinion is as good as mine :D

  • i wish NIN songs got the respect they deserve, but i think it takes a certain understanding to appreciate his music that most people just dont have.

  • i agree with oneironi, this song is timeless like beethoven's work, but slightly more bad ass

  • it'd be amazing if they actually performed it AFTER AATCHB.

  • damn he is such a good songwriter

  • 1:23

    THEREMIN!

sikkest instument ever, search on youtube!

  • "AATCHB"

  • The sound of Apocalypse

  • How the hell could there be 10 thumbs down for this? Those people are just retarded that put thumbs down. They must listen to Lady Gaga.

  • my favorite - and one of the greatest songs of all time.

  • lol, i listening nin about 2 years, but never heard this song... amazing

  • I never get tired of listening to this song..

  • From which DVD is this?

  • @Sangdude

This would be from their And All That Could Have Been tour, disc 2 if memory serves me correctly.

If you don't already have it, I highly recommend picking it up. By far one of the best live performances I've ever been to, let alone seen.

  • 300.

    "This is Sparta!!!"

  • hurf durf

  • Immortal song...

  • Trent Reznor, a genius composer. This is the best song and never get bored of it.

  • Awesome song. It never gets old and it always has an awesome effect on me. SPECTACULAR!

  • Best NIN song. Makes me want to jump around and just go crazy. In a good way.

The build up of sounds and the riffs are so expressive of something unattainable. I dunno.

  • Reznor is a genious

    This one says it all

  • lol this was in full screen.

  • My favorite track, listened to this hundreds of times, it never gets old.

  • Perfection

  • This was honestly, NIN at it's best. The line up was so good and Jerome Dillon is fucking amazing. God I miss the old line up

  • Wow, my fav track.

  • could this song be anymore perfect? right down to the very last second...superb

  • My favourite all time NIN track. Really stir's something in me without the need for word's.

Lame I know but it does when I have it cranked at full volume and just go with it.

  • I'm with you, this is my favorite NIN song too, I honestly don't know why either...

  • Holy Crap, I've only ever seen one other person playing the theramin and that was in some Yo Gabba Gabba video my kid was watching.

In case you don't know what one of those is, the guy at 1:32 is playing it. You wave your hands in the air to play it.

  • frighteningly subtle

  • This song gives me fucking goosebumps.

  • Comment removed

  • 200 years from now( if we haven't bombed ourselves by then) this song will still be amazing. It sort of says "fuck you" to time. It lives in its own present. If any song could do that as well as this than that would be one hell of a song (and this song is)

  • fucking mad philosophical analogy right there NICE ONE (Y) I liked it a lot

  • @Oneiroi729 This timeless quality you describe, and the fact that NIN's music seems to come from a few clicks into the future, I think stems from three reasons:

    A) Reznor utilizes unique soundscapes even with conventional instruments or within a context that makes them feel alien.

    B) His musical phrasing never sounds like genre cliches and if it approaches one it becomes a mutant version.

    C) His sound was not widely adopted into the mainstream. It was never allowed to become anchored in time.

  • @psychicwhoosh

    Your observations are beautifully accurate.

  • @Oneiroi729 i have nothing to say, thats exactly what would happen

  • @Oneiroi729 Well, that's a mouthful. Great sentiment, though. I concur.

  • @Oneiroi729 My friend you are righter than right can be!

  • Where's this video from? Could I find the whole show? =D

  • The concert dvd "And All That Could Have Been."

  • epic

  • is this fragility?

  • yes

  • I like how the whole song grows from 4 notes. Outstanding.

  • Technically, it's more than 4 notes.

  • awesome but the guitars are way too quiet

  • This song is a true masterpiece.

  • orgasm worthy!

  • *Has orgasm*

  • words cannot describe how jealous i am of anyone who attended this

  • It's like a balm for my soul!

  • yeah um o_O

  • <3 awesome <3

  • most complex & talented band to date... & i don't even like NIN...!

  • I saw them with the Aaron North set (Twiggy, Alessandro and Josh Freese) and that was fucking amazing, but the Fragility tour group was a once in a lifetime thing... that whole tour was the total climax of the NIN we knew.

  • How do they make that scratching sound at the end? And what is the instrument at 1:23?

  • That's a theremin.

  • looks like a violin

  • theremins make me rock hard!

  • He needs to bring Charlie and his theremin back. :-(

"Sin" live with Charlie is incredible.

  • my favourite song. ever.

  • I LOOOOVVVVEEE this song!! Trent you are a musical genius. NIN are awesome!! The Fragile is my fav NIN album !!

  • This is not what the mix sounds like on the dvd. You can hear the guitars and the mix is otherwise excellent

  • My favorite song off The Fragile.

  • this song is sooooooooo fuking awesome i luv dis band so fukin mucccchhhhh!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:53...

    I agree...

Turn the damn guitar up! I'm straining to hear the best part of the song!

  • I'm sorry that I gave you a bad point, it was my mistake.

you are absolutly right about the guitar

  • Wierd im not into nin but this songs so awesome! sooooooo creative and well done!

  • they need to turn up the volume on the guitars big time

  • I agree

  • Maybe. But Trent surely oversaw the mix here, so it was his call...

    *scratches head*

  • haha i bet trent realized he was playing bass and got jealous so turned down the guitars to make his part stand out more ;)

  • GOD I love Trent!!! Is there anyone who can even come close to his genius?! I think not.

  • SPARTANS!!!

  • OH....MY ....that was just great!

  • great....................love Trent

  • i wish this song much longer...

  • NIN 4 EVER!!!!

  • Perfection!Fucking Awesome!!

  • fuckin rocks!!

  • MORE THEREMIN!

  • on sera 2 alors

  • this song gets you really "pumped up" for stuff

  • great song to have you your mp3 player while running, working out or perhapps kicking persian messangers down holes :)

  • Cool. Very good quality.

  • wtf a thermin?

  • indeed it is, this only re-inforces my desire to learn the thermin, HAHA!!!

  • I'm going to see them June 2nd in Toronto. It'll be the first time I'll see them live. I can't wait!

  • SAME

  • I kinda feel I'm at some point in time where we all live in factories and stations and this is playing for some primal human event. Don't know what I'm saying but whatever this song is unbelievable
