  • those damn fords! cant stop 'em

  • If it stays on for 15 seconds, that would indicate all glow plugs are good.

How long was it pluged in? Should give it at least 3 hours, and it should fire up nicelly. How cold was it it?

Is it hard to start all the time? Cold and warmed up? or only cold?

  • 50 seconds? Whoa lol, minimum is 10 seconds, max 15 seconds.

These 7.3's will go a LONG way with proper maintenance. Just make sure you keep the coolant additives up so the block doesn't cavitate and she'll go forever!

  • Glow plugs wouldn't hurt. How long does the Wait to Start light stays on for?

  • Neighbors gotta love that.

  • My dad has a 95 with the 7.3 turbo diesel. Believe it or not, its got 440,000 miles on the original motor and still runs strong.

  • their new diesels are called powerstroke

  • What kind of engines does ford use in their newer diesels? The older ones like you have sound sweet, the newer ones sound like shit! Are the engines different or do they just sound different? I'm a totally blind person, so I don't know.

  • Same engines made by International Harvester. These older ones have no turbo (N/A) and InDirect Injected, newer ones are Direct Injected and have a turbo.

  • @IDIDieselJohn older unit 7.3 ltr n/a...

  • @blindmotorhead what john said, and also i think its all the new emissions crap they put on that really gives it a different sound

  • New engine blocks are also insulated...

  • @IDIDieselJohn you got me there

  • omg my ford has 370000 Miles too its an 88

  • Thats pretty awesome. I got a '93 with 315000. I think the sucker will run forever!

  • THE powerstroke and IDI are very different motors. All thats really the same is the displacement. The powerstroke is direct injected and all computer controlled. IN 94 you could get a turbo IDI.

  • NICE!!! i have a 1991 ford 7.3 idi thats been modded and im looking to put powerstroke exhaust manifolds and a newer larger powerstroke turbo .. My current banks turbo just doesent do it anymore hell its on its 2nd rebuild!!!

  • now that a truck.i bet gmc could not last that long . o and i am a big fan of the 1987 to 1991 f-150 and f -250 diesel

  • thers a TON of gmc/chevrolets older than that on the road....

  • damn right there is

  • @cowboy5632 Ya but do you see how many miles that truck has? and just because the truck is older doesn't mean its better a lot of those old chevy's are rusted to shit like this truck. All the big 3 trucks are good you should be bashing on the toyota and honda trucks those things are shit.

  • damn thats a lot of milage!

  • not much smoke for that many miles how much oil does it eat?

  • Doesn't burn oil, it only smokes on cold starts, after it's running nothing comes out the exhaust even if you rev it it will make a bit of black smoke.

  • wow a IDI with that many miles and does not burn oil. did you re-build it these are great motors but every one of them i have delt with burned some oil thats good if yours does not.

  • good ol ford diesels! to bad stupit EPA emissions laws got rid of 7.3 powerstoke SCREW THEM!!!!!!!!

  • So true. Nothing beats a 7.3 :)

  • It was because the 7.3 didnt have an EGR valve. It was introduced on the 6.0 and always fails, along with the EGR cooler which causes a coolant leak, the coolant level drops, and wipes out the head gasket. not to mention the carbon build up in the variable turbos. the 7.3 was definitly the better international that ford put in the light duty trucks

  • thats not the same thing as a 7.3 powerstroke you know.. completely diffrnt motors

  • yes it is the same engine for the most part. Turbo was the big change

  • not that its a ford but i have seen 6.2 chevs make well over 650,000 miles without rebuilds they just dont start too well but like you said old diesels run forever

  • Well... the GM 6.2 wasn't the best diesel engine but it was somewhat good. It sure did sound good I'll give it that but the 6.5 I'm sure would make it past 650K. It also all depens how you treat your truck and maintenance, regular maintenance makes a big diff also how high you rev it up, like I'll take this truck for example: it's very rarely been over 2300 RPM and it has been a real work truck plus we use to have a "12ft Truck Camper" and weighed a little over 5 tons truck and camper.

  • yea i treat mine real nice too i dont rev it up all that high and the 6.5 werent that great the turbo was too much for them engines ive seen way to many of them trucks screwed up because of them being worked then the turbo boost ends up blowing them apart after some thousdands of miles

  • Yeah that's very true I forgot about that come to think of it, I know someone who that happen to. Thanks for the reminder.

  • no problem gotta love that naturally asperated diesel power in your truck HELL YA!!

  • OH YAA :D Thanks.

  • Can't kill an old ford. Can't say the same for the new ones. =(

  • SO TRUE!!

  • Wow, 370,000 MILES!!! Damn, Built Ford Tough!

  • YAAAA Thanks :)

  • i heard those diesel engines can last 500 miles

  • woops

    i meant 500,000 miles

  • Oh more the that these are good for over the million mile mark.

  • wow

    thats very impressive!

    built ford tough!

  • Pretty much any older diesel will last that long like the old Chevy 6.5 (not the Duramax) and the Dodge Cummins and the reason why the OLDER diesels is that newer diesels all have turbos and stuff like that and they can reach WAY HIGHER RPMs than the older ones so the new ones wear out faster, and have way more parts to go bad on em.

  • oh yea thats true

the new f350 has twin turbos

  • yeah lol imagine that piece of shit that's going to be after a few K miles.

  • lol yeah imagine!!!

it would probably end in 300,000 miles

  • not bad! What a sweet old truck, can't kill an old ford!

  • Amen!

  • i wish i had one of those babies, but theyre hard to find out here in europe, especially in 4x4 standard gear box...

  • After shes idling, not a thing comes outta that tailpipe - that's what you call a well-taken-care-of engine!

  • Yup Thanks :D
