  • @PianistDreaming i do hope you know that Emmy did actually sing her part

  • I'm sorry about this, Sarah Brightman, but...WOW! Best cadenza I've ever heard! I've found my new favorite Christine! <3

  • I too think she's the best sounding Christine!

  • Right. Rebecca. Yes. She's a REAL singer...in all aspects.

  • I love her cadenza at the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate how that had to simplify it in the movie because Emmy isn't a real opera singer...

  • @beatlemaniac487 it sort of makes me sad to know that there are people out there who think she is a singer at all. Yes, she carries a note well. Digital recordings in studios hide LOTS. It's a shame that out of all the talent out in the world, they chose Emmy for the part. Oh don't even get me started with what I think about the 2004 movie!!! It really was such a let down for me....

  • When Garth Drabinsky approached Andrew Lloyd Webber about doing the Canadian recording, at first he was hesitant, what for having the full London recording out only a few years earlier. Garth was persistent and convinced Andrew to do the recording. Today, Andrew has commented that in his opinion, the Canadian recording is closest to his heart.

Thank you Mr Drabinsky for bringing this magic to Toronto for its incredible run and the memories of the former Pantages theatre

  • Emmy has a good voice although its not nessicarily fit for the part of christine, but don't get me wrong! She's got a great singing voice, but not as trained as Rebecca, Sarah or Sierra (christine in love never dies) this is probably because they didn't get enough time to train her for the movie, but still Webber found some beautiful, flawless, pure and amazing voices to play the part of christine in the history that the Phantom has been in theatres

  • @sk9486 Emmy is a beautiful person - I've seen interviews and heard her speak - she's intelligent and well-spoken...but she's NOT a singer. That is used way too freely nowadays. Being a singer does not equate to being able to carry a tune and getting it recorded. It is a trained art and skill. Rebecca is trained and is an amazing performer to boot!

  • For some reason, this Raoul's 'Bravo' made me laugh. I have no idea why.

  • I still can't get over the fact that they had to simplify the trills for Emmy Rossum, it makes me laugh every time. Rebecca is the bed, she is just amazing.

  • Oh the irony! Rossum is also trained in Opera, which makes it even funnier. :D

  • even though i really like emmy, those high notes weren't good(ending of phantom of the opera) AND THEY WERE LOWERED! but i must admit a lot of time i like her better than sarah. WELL DONE REBECCA!

  • They were lowered, AND autotuned.

  • @wittyandsarcasticrtc As if Gerry and Emmy weren't XDDD!

  • you must be tone death. Phantom was written for Sarah and her vocal range. Emmy can't sing its called a recording studio and throughout the movie she mimes. Emmy was crap in the movie. anyone can mime and a recording studio can make anyone can sing. the real stars are those actors/actresses who perform LIVE 8 shows a week

  • I've said nothing about live actors. Off course they are real stars. It's great to preform live so often. But I cant understand what people see in Sarah Brightman, her voice is so dreadful, gosh, my head hurt only by thinking of her.

  • Finally someone else who agrees. Sarah is nothing more than a glorified chorus girl. There are so many women I know who can sing as good as she can.

  • I do like Sarah and Rebecca better the Emmy, however, Emmy is trained in Opera, and the only person in the movie who did NOT sing their own character parts was the woman who played Carlotta.

Emmy can sing, just not as well as Sarah, or Rebecca.

  • @cutepiku Whoever taught Emmy was a fail. Rebecca is also highly trained in opera. Obviously.

  • @lilrowyravenclaw you should totally look up Emmy's audition. She actually sounds EXACTLY the same as the movie. So...no training? Plus, didn't they have to take Think of me down half a tone?!?! It was too high for the poor girl. Rebecca sings effortlessly and it comes out curly and smooth... :P

  • Its official I'm jealous! I'm not amused about the fact that another Rebecca has graced the stage as Christine! Before me! Oh I might huddle in a corner somewhere and cry, or go out there and Be better............which will definately be difficult because she's exactly how I imagine Christine to sound, not waif like and empty but whole and rich! Oh Woe Is Me!!!!!

    Thanks for posting! Amazing.

  • Sara Brightman has improved soooo much since Phantom of the Opera! Give her a chance!

  • the vibrato? they're one of the most essential features of opera music. obviously, sarah and rebecca are better than emmy. she's still starting.

  • I know dur. I love vibrato very much.. But I just seem to like softer.. calmer.. more mellow voices better than opera opera.. a lot of vibrato and stuff. in my opinion.. especially since emmy is still starting. she has the potential to have a more calming and beautiful voice than sarah.

  • OUCH! most of the sopranos on that stage have been in opera! AND IM IN OPERATIC TRAINING!*cries* just kidding! but vibrato actullly means the vocie is healthy. but you have right to your opinion.

  • amazing christine i think her and rachel barrel are the best

  • I agree! Rabecca Caine and Rachel Barrell are my two favorite Christines!

  • best christine ever ever ever

  • my absolutely favorite christine. my absolutely favorite cast recording, actually. ^^

  • By FAR the best Christine recorded. Claire Moore, Emmy Rossum, Rachel Barrel, and Sarah Brightman are all good, but Christine is SO Rebecca's role!

  • Emmy Rossum is no good, but other than that I agree with you.

  • Rebecca Caine is absolutely wonderful; she's my favorite Christine. I love her chemistry with Colm as well.

  • rebecca, you are absolutely beautiful.

  • She's amazing!

  • Wow, she IS really awesome. Her voice isn't TOO overbearing, but not TOO soft either. Good stuff. :D

  • "Rebecca Caine is fantastic, as is the whole Canadian cast recording."

Dont you mean "PHANTASTIC!" ? hee hee. i agree. she is quite nice. I am looking for a broadway recording with Howard McGillin. Is there one yet?

  • WOW!

  • There's no picture ?

  • I'm personally a big fan of Colm's. He's in Phantom, Les Miz, and Jekyll and Hyde. Excellent vid by the way.

  • Rebecca Caine is fantastic, as is the whole Canadian cast recording. Just to clarify, Colm Wilkinson was offered the part of Phantom before Crawford, but was unable to due to his contract with Les Mis. Pretty exceptional to rock out on two of the biggest, most well-known male roles and in two of the biggest musicals to date.

  • where did you get this recording?

  • I got it at Barnes & Noble. Im pretty sure you can find it anywhere though, just look for the Canadian Cast Recording. It has Colme Wilkinson as the phantom.

  • nice!! i saw him in les mis several years ago...great voice :)

  • He takes a lot of liberties with the phantom's part. I actually like him a lot better as Valjean. But if your a fan, you might appreciate him more than I did.

  • well, his voice fits the part of valjean more (didn't he create that part from workshop up? can't remember), and when you think of phantom - you think 'crawford' :-D

  • When I think of Crawford I think...EWW...SICK...WAY TOO FEMININE TO BE A GOOD PHANTOM!!! Colm is miles ahead!!!

  • Michael Crawford had a higher voice than Sarah Brightman and she goes pretty high. I think that was a serious miscast.

  • she is really good, and i agree! i would say that your voice is more like sarah brightman's though... :)
