Guys Guys calm down don't get your tighty whites in a bunch. Nobody is perfect and the only it would sound right is if the score was simulated. The point of middle/high schools playing orchestrial pieces is for the experience and to be a part of something greater than oneself. Nobody's perfect. I play Tuba for pete's sake. My band director has gotten on me about things in every single piece we play in our high school symphonic band in the East Coast of North Carolina.
@RedRogueAssassins How about you guys try playing pieces like OCTOBER by ERIC WHITACRE and SHENENDOAH, LOCH LOMOND by FRANK TICHELI and especially SHORT RIDE IN A FAST MACHINE by JOHN ADAMS arr. by SAUCEDO. Then when you band director either says your not ready for those pieces or its too hard then stop and think about these guys in this video.
@RedRogueAssassins It's kinda hard to think about that, since I've done that before. I kinda understand their input because of opinion as well as skill if you will. And sometimes your band director will get you for things because he interprets the song differently than other directors or the composer. Playing Bass/Contrabass Trombone for Festivo is easy (I transposed my own part, harder, and switches between B/CB) but in essence it comes to opinion, i.e. way accents are being played.
Hey, they aren't that bad! I am playing this in Middle school...and It is very hard...u guyes should see she music! :) I am a flute and It isn't easy AT ALL!! :)
I hadn't heard this piece before and found this recording very helpful in getting an idea of how it sounded. Wish the rest of you guys would lighten up about it. This was played by a very small band, and you don't know how many years they've been playing their instruments... maybe not as many as you?
Flutes need WORK! Flute 2 was way behind at meno Mosso. Ya'll to need to work on intonation at some parts. And the whole ensemble needs to try to balance and blend more. Also the tempos need to be faster in the beginning and the end.
When we played this, we went very heavy on the trumpets, more aggressive, more brutal. And we took it faster.
The style of this is so much more different than I'm use to hearing.
I felt like accents didn't really come off. The accuracy of the notes [not the tuning but the actual fingering] on another note was well done.
I guess my greatest complaint would probably be the style--but who am I to insult that. i just expected a tenacious, obstinately brutal sound and I'm kinda disappointed.

sorry but this band SUCKKKKKKSSSSS! my school did this song and we would whoop ur ass with our version of it! and flutes! your duet thing was terrible and i would know b/c i played that in my band. jeez u should really work on ........everything well the flutes should
compared to my band they suck i mean their not even playing the right tempo. woodwinds need to be louder, and brass needs to be just as loud and not overpower the woodwinds and timpani player needs to just beat the hell out of his timpani percussion is supposed to be like Switzerland
Be fiercer! Way not to accent anything, what was with the snare at Allegro con fuoco? And what did you do to Meno mosso? You killed it flutes! Seconds-get it together man. Bump notes at 105 came in too fast, rushing tempo, not on the beat, and not accenting. Ooh, rushing a bit! Dynamics at 116, forte didn't play, and at 125 you should've played a fortissimo. Brass at 137 and 142 didn't crescendo. Oh, trumpet just came in too early! Frack! 160-woodwinds, accent and separate.
ahh, when the snare had the tempo he let it slow down. the woodwinds aren't "making an entrance". there are accents over the top notes for a reason. and the area with the trade off, it got better, but it started off sloppy. french horn got a few wrong notes, but decent for the tempo. when the low brass came in, the speed up the music on count 2. oh wow. last measure was supposed to be dead silence, but tempany went on! good overall. sorry if i sound mean. im just really picky with festivo =D
Intunation I think is another small problem. I'd take more time focusing on what key each piece is then playing the scales according to the keys. Also, I'd do some Remmington exercises to improve airstreams and will also help with the out intunation. Overall, the balance is fine, musicality is okay, the ensemble looks determined they jsut need a little bit more work and they'll be headed to success! Grade: B-
I think in the beginning there is some overbearing trumpet play and it's somewhat of a crast sound like there is some response issues. Yeah, every now and then I hear a lot of squeaked notes as if they are restraining their air. Just relax and push a continious airstream. Like a pressure washer, but at times turn down the pressure of the washer to reduce the sound. Still at all times you should take in a lot of air. It's how you use that air is what gives you a certain sound
I played flute on this piece. I think we played it a bit faster though. Around 140, like the others were saying. What happened to the flute soli? The Seconds just faded out.
I thought that this song was one of my favorites...i played alto clarinet and it was a little bit of a challenge (my some of my keys are broken)...overall i thought that this band did good!
Hm, we're playing at a faster tempo...quite a bit faster in fact. I think it's like 142 or so. And yeah there was a trumpet that played wrong or something. Ah, I wanna go play this now. :P
They were not bad... a little off but I think the fact that it's a recording that was then put into youtube might be the cause of it... youtube is not so kind to music.
I love the piece, I played a couple months ago. All I can say is that you need to be more confident with your parts and that the tempos of certain areas of the music could have differed. The Grave section wasn't really to my liking, sorry!
I've played that piece before, its a really difficult piece. And their tempo is just fine. I seriously doubt you have ever picked up an instrument in your life. In short. SHUT UP!!
its supposed to be a quarter note and when i played it my conducter made the note just a bit longer to make it sound a bit better and more professional
It always sounds better when you're playing in it than when you listen to it, although they aren't so good around 2:40. I'm in high school and after listening to it for a while, I think that the band that I'm in plays it better too.
OK... First part is a little fast, Second part, trumpets are a lil crazzy and pitch woodwinds on the high part! YAY! French Horn with the Doo-doo-doo doo doo doo doot. Your clairennets are great in the third part! Way better than ours. Ours are all breathy. Your tempo control is better than ours too. Our conductor tends to want us to go way too slow in the second A part.
out of control trumpets :O , our band is doing this song we sound good in it, but we need more F horns (its only me) its a class B-Band if we had 28 less ppl going to our school it would be class A .. (class B is normal sized but where RIght on the verge of being a Class A = Small band) this looks like an class C (big band)
:O the bells and the flutes are playing the F horn solo (thats the Ba-Ba-ba-Ba-Ba-BA-ba-ba-ba in the calm part that happens every 4 measures)
Lol, so much negativity. Sure there are alot of errors. But no need for the T-Bagging.

You have to build in order to crescendo you can't just change dynamics like that or there is no musical flow.

Not bad. The intonation is not good in some sections, and the trumpets lack a focused tone, so they stick out from the rest of the band.
Nice piece. Oh, you haven't seen Nelhybel's kind of torture until you've read Symphonic Movement!
