So sorry to hear the General has passed on - I was 11 in 72 and recall hearing this on Radio one and absolutely loving it. To hear it again brings tears to the eyes. Absolutely love it and a great song for my funeral. Songs in those days were about love and full of hope for the world, which is often in contrast to the charts of today.
So glad I grew up when I did with such beautiful music. Remember -Radio Caroline continues 2011
I listen to everything from folk to metal, but chairmen of the board were a great band. Get their two disc greatest hits album, i ordered it cuz i liked the song give me a little more time, but their are alot of great songs on that album that i didnt know about before A little more time Dangling on a string Ill come crawling patches bless you a building of love all we need is understanding elmo james im on my way to a better place let me down easy and more
This song is just so emotional, especially now that the General has actually gone to a better place. Yet another sad loss from the super talented world of music.
A 'better place': Soul heaven with General Johnson, Levi Stubbs, Solomon Burke, Michael Jackson, Billy Preston, Marvin Gaye and all the other great artists that have passed on there. How much emptier our lives would have been without their music. Bless you.
this is really weird i love this group, i really believe what this song is saying about my life i am going to snuff it soon, i didn't know this great singer died. i can only look forward to that great gig in the sky.
RIP forever General. We love and miss you over here in the UK. You were the soundtrack to my 70s. From a white soul brother, you were the Very Best....
From the early days as the frontman with the Showmen to the impressive resume with The Chairmen The song title say it so well It will stand to Better place read more at Chairmenofthe board.com..Everybody hand salute The General for all those great memories from my playing his music in the motor cities to here in Charlotte we will all miss General Norman Johson(Rock on Baby,Rock On)R I P general Johnson
In Britain this only got to number 38 back in 1972. Should of course been a top 5 hit. One of their very best and still brings back great memories of The Hopholes Youth Club in Palmers Green. Thanks for the upload. Pax to all from 'SoulBoy'Smith.Xxx.
Im only 13 and I love motown, northern soul and rare grooves. I thank my mum for the rare grooves, my dad fro the northern soul and my dad and mum for the classic and lovely motown hits- memories forever! <3
