  • Two things I remember when I watched "Yan can cook":

1- Chef Yan cooking the shrimp chips in hot oil, love to see them "blooming".

2- Serving samples of his daily cooking to front seated audience on napkins. Mmmm!

I borrowed one of his cooking books, followed the recipes in it and it's surprinsingly easy to do. I gotta tell you that cooking Chinese food at home, it's unbelievable how much money you save!

    Martin Yan = respect

  • I loved Yan. He was the funniest, most entertaining cooking show host ever!

  • I love him! I used to watch him as a kid. I used to watch all the cooking shows on PBS. I think that is why I love cooking now, and I am a great cook too. You learn alot from PBS.

  • yessss. me too. now i can cut vieggies and greens lightning fast, from a life time of practice. none of my friends can understand it.. i try to tell them about yan and his skills and humor. thank god for you tube, now they'll believe me.

  • I used to watch this guy when I was a kid, he's awesome.

  • i use to watch this guy when i was a kid!

  • same!

  • dont sprash yourself

  • "See how easy it is?"

    O.O

  • The god of cooking, IMO

  • you are racist.

  • "julian dis, like dis! ahhh different choices!" hahahaha

  • I used to watch this show in Hong Kong as a kid, funny as hell

  • I miss this show!!!I watched it all the time when i was young.please bring it back!!! even though it's from the 80's i would still watch them all again

  • i member watching him when i was little i thought he was sooo cool cuz of his knife skills. its even more amazing that he can cut so fast and even cuz that chinese cleaver is HELLA heavy!!!

  • IF YAN CAN COOK

    ..SO CAN YOU :D

  • but thats not true =D

  • he's a drummer with his meat cleaver. a cleaver drummer!!!! muah haha

  • bob ross and martin yan rules PBS........always

  • damn i used to love watching this show when i was a kid! if yan can cook, so can you!... but if yan can't, then neither can you!

  • I wish my knife skills were half that good.

  • see how he never cuts with his fingers out, always a closed hand almost shielding his fingers. that's the proper way to cut, that's why he's still got all his fingers :P

i remember watching this when i was a kid, i used to love it because he was so fast and his equally high standard of hygiene

  • I've learned that if you don't want to cut yourself while keeping the food from moving, you curl your fingers knuckle side up so that the knuckles of your fingers touch the knife (if they're flat, you WILL cut yourself!).

  • yes very true, that's how my dad always told me to cut vegetables

  • He works so fast I can't believe he still has all his fingers. I'd have two bloody stumps from trying to do this.

  • im from a small town in central california and one day back in 87? i walked in fords department store and there was yan cooking up on some pots and pans i guess doing a little bay area tour... it was my first brush with a celebrity.... there were only like four people standing around watching him... it was so surreal.

  • Such an idol!

  • knife skills!!!

  • Look at that! Loook at that!

  • I liked the Wok With Yan show on CBC because he always put on an apron that had a funny saying.

  • Cutting speed doesn't really matter....just showing off. Quality is more important. I like way he tawk.

  • mmh big peeshes k loadat get rid of da sheed ohhh lokadat memba big peeshes

  • i think his cutting speed is about average comparing to other chinese chefs.. but still not bad for an asian american

  • this really is an art. wow lookadat mmh lookadis u buttafy did big peesehes mmh lookadat get rid of da sheed oh lookadis
