@MangoSmoothie16 im going to try and get a 99 cobra. port n polish, stage 2 balanced cams, cold air kit and tune, full exhaust, under drive pulleys, accufab tb, 3.90 gears. that should be pretty awesome. probably 0-60 4.0 flat, around 400rwhp.
@MangoSmoothie16@MangoSmoothie16 you can mate it to a Mustang Manual Transmission Gear box, since this uses the same engine that was in the 03 Mustang Cobra that came with the Manual Transmission, here's an example by the way..
No, mufflers are not just for sound. They create the back pressure necessary for low flow, stock engines. If you take the mufflers off, you create a more free flowing exhaust, that means less back pressure, and on a stock engine with little flow, that means you're losing low end torque and high end horsepower, thereby narrowing your power band. Not a good thing.
@Tboninator the back pressure wont be an issue, the 4V DOHC 4.6L runs great in Mach 1's and Cobra's with much shorter and freer flowing exhaust systems. Removing the cats and mufflers would probly lose power, but just mufflers shoudlnt be noticable.
Freer flowing than straight pipes? If you get a cat-back exhaust system, you're not going to have more flow than straight pipes.
While stock exhausts typically restrict the engine a bit, and you can get more free flowing exhausts that will increase performance, an absence of back pressure isn't going to help much of anything, unless your engine is built to run without it.
@Tboninator There will be back pressure in the system, if you look at a marauder exhaust it goes up and over the rear axel, which will give back pressure, Im doing straight pipes tommorrow and ill let ya know how it feels, Im guess in this 4200 pound car its not going to be noticable either way
This would be my dream car if it came with a 5/6spd manual

@MangoSmoothie16 sounds like you need an 01 cobra. same engine/drivetrain with a manual, maybe a few pounds lighter at 3200

@paladain55 Yeah, but its not a big ass 4 door sleeper. If I wanted a Mustang, I'd get a bullit or mach 1 :P

if its just the mufflers it isnt bad. if you take off the cats or resonator with the mufflers it will be bad

No shit. No backpressure will slaughter a stock engine. Unless you've got shit bored out and ported, don't run straight pipes.

@playwithmywii mufflers is for sound if you take them off it wont do anything to the engine

Yes, that bend will provide back pressure, but not much.
The catalytic converter provides plenty of back pressure, so if you still have those, then you'll be fine.

Sounds very nice! Do you still have resonators? I was expecting much louder to be honest but it sounds very good.
