Hi Judy I am a new kniitter and I love your videos they are so easy to follow and understand I love it. you have been a great help to me and my knitting.
thanks for the nice note. glad my videos have helped you. please keep watching and look for me on facebook. btw, I've always wanted to see BC. Is it as beautiful as I think it is?
when the directions say to work 2 rows of stockinette stitch, does that mean 1 row knit and 1 row purl....or 1 row knit, 1 row purl, 1 row knit, 1 row purl....bc one stockinette is 1 knit, 1 purl?
I just came to this video to figure out what I was doing wrong, as I have fianlly mastered the purl stitch but my stockinette looks sloppy and pulled along the edge. This video solved my issue. BUT I don't understand the bit about knitting the last stitch backwards. The visual is difficult to follow because you are moving so fast. I don't suppose you could put up a video explaining your technique more in depth?
I've been crocheting for years and thought I would pick up knitting. Your videos are such a huge help! I just wanted to ask you one thing, I noticed that you usually slip the very first stitch... is that with every row, and what's the purpose of doing that instead of completing the stitch? Thanks!
Judy, You are so helpful to people/kids like me! I am 9 years old and never thought I could learn how to knit till I watched your vidoes!! I just want to say 'THANK YOU" for all the vidoes and help you give to people/kids!!! YOU ROCK!
Hi Judy,
Why do you slip the first stitch of each row? Thanks :)

Stockinette stitch means knit one row, purl one row, repeat. That's all there is to it.

please watch my videos knitting tips and e-mail questions. I think those will help answer your questions.

You are probably knitting every row instead of knit one row and purl one row. Try again.

Judy,
Does that slipped first stitch count as the first stitch in a pattern? It seems this would mess with the count and the particular pattern!
I guess -- How does it affect the pattern one may be following?

why do you slip the first stitch? I've always just knitted it/purled it like other stitches. Have I been doing the wrong thing?
Oecologeae 2 years ago
I think slipping the first stitch prevents it from curling at the sides
