@goran2009 I just bought one and i swear on my life you will be blown away. I read threw all the haters comments on youtube and weight my options out and still bought one. I am extremely happy the thing sounds exotic when your mashing it down the street and it looks like a tokyo drift supercar for the streets. The interior in top notch and so is the bose sound system. The cars intense fast and corners like a lotus. Plus i am the only person in my city who has one. Mazda does it right i promise.
oh my god you people are idiots....the F"N rotary was NOT designed by "RENESIS"...fukin tards..it was invented by Wankel..German engineer...a difference between old rotary engines and new "RENESIS" engines is that each rotor has 3 intake ports and 2 exhaust ports per rotor...and the rotors weigh less than the ones in the RX7...rrreeetards
before the 3.5, you had the 3.0 in ford, chevy had the 3.1 (stroked version in the lumina) accord 3.0 maxima 3.0. Just explaining why piston engines are cheaper. The block has not changed much in 30 years just tweeked it over the years so no much R&D needed. The rotary has not been around long enough and not mass produced enough for this to happen yet. Mpg will become an issue in time ( another way to put it down) it is just sad as R&D may find a good mpg fix.
@cliffkemp Your right about the rotary. Mazda is the only one to keep it alive. And while it will produce spectacular results, it'll be interesting to see how long stays around.
wonder if anyone keeps up with racing? here is a little irony for you as far as why rotaries cost so much and why pistons are what they are today with power. Noticed here lately that le mans cars went to 3.5 in 1992. What did nissan toyota and honda go to in their newer cars? 3.5 or in nissans case, stroked 3.5 to make it 3.7. point is, the engine has been around for nearly 20 years (as far as the block goes) its not new just revised. It used to be 3.0
The reason why most car's have pistons in em is b/c the Piston engine was invented way before you we're even born in the late 1800's - early 1900's. Unlike the rotary which came to birth in the late 1950's. So there's the diff. Plus a rotary engine costs 3x as much compared a normal piston engine. Rotary4LiFe!
@qiankundanuoyi1 That is totally false my friend, you need to do much more studying before stating something like that. Renesis is just Rotary + Genesis put as one word. It is to show the reborn rotary engine.
Yeah but is the 787b street legal, Mazda does make hyper-car performance with its rotary engine, but they aren't street legal. The Furai is a great example of what Mazda can achieve.
I have an 09 rx8 and it does chug oil. You need to add oil every 1000 miles. DOnt be calling people shit when you yourself dont know a damn thing about what youre talking about.
Go to Rx-8 club. Maybe the 09's do. But the one before it don't. Well whatever, I'd rather have it chug a bit more oil to lubricate the Apex seals and the side seals. But our injectors suck, they don't spray the oil, they just drop some oil and doesn't spread the oil out properly.
There was a thread about this and some didn't even notice a change in the oil level, so to me, you don't really have to add oil every 1k. Most people did it at 2k.
If you put that much oil in your 8, you need to take it back or stay below 6k rpms for a little bit. Unless you are topping off to top off. After all, you didnt say how much you had to add. You have to add oil to piston engines as well if you want to keep them topped off and most dont do this so they nark on rotary's without understanding how they work and what the oil does.
rx8s dont use as much oil as people think they do. The do use some by design but, if people just want to, they can treat it like a 2 stroke and take the metering pump off and there your have it. No oil use. Many racing engines do this so to not have to rely on the metering pump especially on high speed cornering. They just take the pump off and redo the oil system and make it a dry sump.
RX8 is a nice sports car. But lack major punch. 350Z will walk away on the straight. Cornering the 8 will be bit quicker. But not enough to make up the different in lap time proven both in Fifth gear as well as Best Motoring video. Nice update on 09 model, but believe tobe mostly costmetic. with a bigger final drive. 350Z on the other hand has evolve to all new 370Z which will strech the margin even larger
haha i got an 04 Rx-8 i think its got more style than a Z but pep. diff. and racing ways it depends on driver. i beat a 06 mustang gt.a twin turbo Tiburon.69 mach1 (bad ass) a cobalt ss.a 650z.Acura rsx type-s.but it dont mean nothing. granted Z has more power but 9.5rpm is nice and mazda needs 2 bring 1 with a 3 rotor n it that b bad as hell. but its what sum1 wants pep. r different.
For the next generation rotary, Mazda did not want to repeat its mistakes. So they took out the turbo and made the RX-8 an N/A. But through many improvements they got this engine pretty close to the turbo'ed 7 (238hp vs 255hp) while being more reliable and efficient. The addition of 4 real seats broadens the appeal to larger number of consumers. IMO Mazda has done a fantastic job of keeping the 8's great handling and looks while w/ 4 seats. That means you can have 3 screaming girls in the car :)
Problem with the rx8 is not its hp, it's got more than enough considering the car is lighter than audi's TT :o. The real problem is its torque figure. That's what makes it fail on a straight line and that's why the rx-7 is so much faster than the 8.
Regarding how the RX7 is a faster car than th RX-8, I'll give you the true reasons. The last generation 7 (the FD) was a sales failure because it was priced out of the affordable sports car market. They only sold about 14,000 of their projected 30,000 cars. Not only that, Mazda didn't design the cooling system well enough to handle the turbo, so radiator hoses cracked, many engines failed. This is why many people believe the rotary to be unreliable, even when N/A rotaries were plenty reliable.
Now being in America, I can understand why more people go for the Z, as the roads are straight and people like torque. I have a feeling that Europe and Japan would appreciate the 8 more as they have more curvy roads.
The 8's lighter weight and better balanced chassis makes it very forgiving and easy to drive fast. I've taken my car to Streets of Willow (road course) twice and it's unbelievably easy to correct understeer and oversteer. The Z is more like a hammer, you muscle it through the turns and punch it down the straights, while the 8 is like a precision instrument, where you make quick and subtle flicks of the wheel to smoothly get the car where you want it to go. Two different cars for 2 different ppl.
I own an '05 RX-8 Mazda RX-8 and I've driven the Z. As much as I like to see the pissing matches on Youtube, I'll give it to you honest and straight. The Z is a more powerful car and a very compentent handler, and will whoop the 8 in all but the tightest tracks with the same driver. But the RX-8 has many sublime qualities over the Z that you don't see on paper. The way the engine is buttery smooth at 8K, and how the car instantly changes direction at the tiniest flick of the steering wheel.
ide put money down saying your stock z cant do 0-60 in 5.1 and the stock rx8 runs 5.9-6.0 to 60. the r3 is no faster then any other rx8 its only suspention and cosmetics. better do some searching b4 you open your mouth.
350z beater???? hahahaha. Maybe on a track with zero straights..
And this new one's visage is so freakn girlie. The old one was much more aggressive. Mazda has no clue with this car. BRING BACK THE RX-7 TURBO ROTARY DAMN IT!!!
Additionally, the stock 350Z has a top speed governor set at 156mph. Replace or re-tune the stock ECU (removing the governor) and a stock 350Z can exceed 170mph.
350Z beater? LOL. My stock 2008 350Z does 0 to 60mph in 5.1 secs. The 2008 RX-8 can't get it under 7 seconds and this one does it in 6.4 secs. Sorry, but you still have a ways to go.
