this song was on the very last episode of the last series of the australian show "seachange". it was my favourite show and ill always love it and this song :)
@stevejedi Come on, I think calling him Australian is fair enough. Aside from growing up here, he wrote one of the most iconic songs about Australia and being Australian, ever. Let us have him.
@Impossible3144 well you do have a point, but, the guy still speaks with a scots accent, so i'm guessing he still regards himself as a scot, so we will just have to agree to share, he probably has dual nationality anyway :D
I first heard this song on the postcard bandi and had to get it.I remember there was a point on me travels when i felt alone n was on an overnight random shared ride from hannover to amsterdam.I never had anything planned and was on me own.I was listening to me music at the time and this song came. funnily enough the bit where he goes "suddenly you're on an upon unknown road, passing all the heavy long wide loads" came on as we drove pass 2 trucks and i felt.. i guess my freedom calling :)
@robblindsay Nope. Down Under was my favorite song when I was little so I kinda already knew who Colin was. Still love him:) His songs and voice always make me smile:)<3
I cant believe no one introduced me to this guy before his music was on scrubs. now i want all of his music. I hope to see him in the U.S. sometime soon.
Seen The Great Man a few times now. The rat-a-tat-tat and pipes in the instrumental sum up the power of this song for me. Freedom calls but it's a scary sonofabitch.
i been looking for this songs for ages...i think last i heard was on the ending scene from the movie "Postcard Bandit" ..anyway thank heaps for posting mate!!
I heard this when I was 12 as the final episode of Seachange in Australia. An Australian drama series based on community and getting rid of the city and all the things that do not really matter. This was the final song on the final episode. I have been searching for it forever!! Thank God I found it is all I can say!
I've been a fan ever since I first heard 'Down Under' back in 1983. This, though, is probably my favourite song that he has ever written. So powerful and with outstanding instrumentation and arrangement. Love to see him live!
it is underappreiciated, not his best but still good, but im soo jealous of the comment above, 35 times!! i became a fan jan 2007, been waiting for him to come to england since he released his last album, wish i lived in america
Thanks, the most under appreciated song I can think of. Probably my 2nd favorite closely behind Waiting For My Real Life To Begin. I ask Colin to play this at almost every show..have seen him 35 times now!!

I think Australians all know of Colin Hay from Seachange, an Australian mini-series that was famous in the 90s. But then he is an Aussie ....
Ciel201 1 year ago
@Ciel201 no colin hay is a scotsman, born in kilwinning ayrshire, he moved down under as a kid, but still speaks with a scots accent.

This song makes me think of a man I know. He's currently 10 days sober. think I'm going to burn this onto a CD and give it to him today.

@m0mmu
That's exactly where I heard this song, and I too have been looking for this song for ages, finally I've found what it's called.
That movie has a lot of GREAT aussie music that I also discovered through it.
Thanks uploader :-)
