I just realized that the trick where you count the seconds from the flash of lighting to its thunder to tell how far away it is. I never heard the bang so at six seconds a mile this is greater than nine mile away?
@pixitha i think it's because sound and or energy can travel faster in a solid medium (the soil/rocks). or it's wind. doubt it since most videos like this have the same sound

What is the sound from exactly, the shock-wave hadn't hit the camera yet, so shouldn't it be quiet until then?

@pixitha It just sounds like wind hitting a microphone, or it might be the ground shaking from the blast.
