@TheCannonofMohammed lol dumbass.. if they stretch it, they add weight, when they add weight, you'll have to BURN more fuel in order to get the same traveldistance or even get airborn... dont act smart...
@weetnietgeen Well, I'm against this aircraft because of environmental reasons. It simply ingests too much sky in those big engines. And it is VERY disruptive of the natural sky-currents as it traverses the oceans, and could very well be the root cause for the hurricanes. Have you ever heard of butterfly theory? Stop and think before you post, and you won't act so foolish!!!
@TheCannonofMohammed then why did you say that if they stretch it that it'll burn less fuel... you acted foolish the first=\\ and yes i know it can/will disrupt the currents like the jetstream.. blablabla... by the time it's actually disrupted we all will have a natural death ihope =o
@TheCannonofMohammed you are right.... we never had hurricanes before this plane arrived on the scene. I don't think volcanoes existed either. In fact has anyone seen a dinosaur since they brought this plane into service?
@TheCannonofMohammed you need to get your science straight..."ingests too much sky"?!? you mean it takes in air and then the air doesn't come back out? twathead.
why don't you stop and think about what butterfly theory ACTUALLY explains (i.e. subatomic disturbances causing cosmic events) before you post so you don't sound so foolish?
and besides. the A380 doesn't have the biggest engines of any plane. it simply has the biggest wingspan/gross weight...reason why it is known as a "Jumbojet".
Hell, the A380 certainly isn't any worse than that Russian beast the Antonov 225 with it's 6 engines and a wingspan of almost 100 yards! (88.4 meters to be exact) But I don't hear anyone bitching about that one. It's so expensive to fly that the Ruskies pretty much grounded it.
They knew it was scraping the runway, but it was only supposed to be touching the rubber attachment on the tail. Once the pilot was informed the actual fuselage made contact with the runway they landed immediately and had to repair it.
@321moviehead the vmu test was supposed to strike only the metal plate under the tail its ther to protect the tail in the event the pilot over rotates but by mistake they did drag the actual tail cone secion not the part that was protected but the actual skin of the plane down the runway a bit resulting in having to repair thats what the second set of sparks are
:S Seems like a foolish and dary test :S. No logic!

Have to do it for certification! Boeing straps an oak slider board on the tail these days!

what is Vmu and what setup/condition does the airplane have to be in for this to happen?

This airplane needs to be stretched at least 75 feet. It simply looks too fat. If they stretch it, it would burn less fuels.

@TheCannonofMohammed I am sure those 1500 engineers in Toulouse haven't thought of that, why don't you send this idea to them?

i think they do it to get the minimum unstick speed... and not to check wheather it withstands a tailstrike

new here. did that tail section actually touch the runway? i saw what looked like sparks.
